The Worthington Jefferson Township Public Library will host Science Heroes:Adventure of the Lost Treasure from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

The Worthington-Jefferson Township Public Library will present “Abraham Lincoln, American Hero” at 6 p.m. at the library, located at 26 N Commercial Street in Worthington. Lincoln, portrayed by professional historical actor Danny Russel, will provide guests with a spoken history of Lincoln and his character strengths shaped largely in the Midwest, such as his honest nature, love of learning, mastery of language, respect for hard work, empathy for his fellow man, opposition to slavery and ability to lead.

Linton Public Library will host a red vs blue event at 1:30 p.m. featuring a Minute to Win It game show for the whole family. An ice cream social will follow.

The annual Rose family reunion will be held at the Girl Scout Cabin at Humphrey’s Park in Linton. Sign-in will begin at 11:30 a.m.. with lunch taking place at12:30 p.m.. Fried chicken and ice will be provided.

The Worthington Jefferson Township Public Library will host Wonder Lab presents Rocket Lab from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Linton Public Library will host Kids’ Silly Song Show at 1:30 p.m. as Ginger sings her favorite songs with her special guest star Horatio the pig.

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Bloomfield Chapter 0847 will meet at the Casa Sevilla Restaurant in Bloomfield at 11:30 a.m.. The business meeting will follow the luncheon and all Federal employees, retirees and spouses are invited and encouraged to attend.

Te Greene County Veterans Council will meet at 7 p.m. at Autumn Trace Senior Community, located at 1150 County Road 1000 W Linton.

Linton Public Library will host Animal Tales at 1:30 p.m.. Come and see animals from six different continents.

Linton Public Library will host Bingo for Books at 1 p.m.. Come play bingo and win books as prizes are geared towards more advanced readers.

Saturday July 13

A Limited Open Class event returns to the 4-H fair. The community is welcomes to bring entries to the fair from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., entering at the West door. A small fee of 75 cents per entry or 3 fro $1.50 and 5 for $2.00. categories include home grown produce including herbs, lasting and live flowers. Be sure to check details at the extension office or Facebook. This event is sponsored by the Greene county Ext. Homemakers and the Greene County Master Gardeners.

Sunday, July 14

Greene County Fair Week begins. The public is invited to join the Extension Homemakers at the Community Event Center Extension Office for the second annual chicken noodle dinner. Throughout the week, the kitchen will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Biscuits and gravy served daily with a specialty item served each day.

Monday, July 15

The Annual Cooking Contest returns at 7 p.m. at the Community Building during the Greene County 4-h week. Entry fee is $2.00. Start looking for a winning recipe with the Key ingredients being LEMONS. Four prizes awarded. Sponsored by the Greene County Extension Homemakers.

Linton Public Library will host “Spin-a-Yarn” at 1 p.m.. They will be combining a book club with an art club. Come and discuss what books you are reading as you work on your art projects, whether they be knitting and crochet or painting. There will not be any assigned books to read or teaching new projects, just relaxing and having fun together.

The 31st annual Daviess Community Hospital Foundation Golf Benefit will be held on Thursday, August 8, at Country Oaks Golf Course in Montgomery. The four-person scramble will start at 11 a.m. for check-in and lunch, followed by the shotgun start at 12 p.m.

The Greene County Sexual Assault Response Team will hold their 13th annual Mom Prom at Heshey Hall, Greene County Community Event Center, located on the Greene County Fairgrounds at 4503 West State Road 54 in Bloomfield. All proceeds support victims in our small community who have been the victim of a sexual assault. More information will be provided soon.

Boone, portrayed by professional historical actor Danny Russel, will tell stories of his life including his loss of two sons and a brother settling “the dark and bloody ground of Kentucky”, discovering caverns in Southern Indiana, rescuing his kidnapped daughter, defeating Native Americans and teaching a few Shawnee phrases.

Ongoing & Future Events

Linton Public Library will host Spanish/English classes open to all ages and speaking abilities on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m.. Yoga with Belinda Baysinger will be available on Fridays at 9 a.m. on a donation basis. Please bring your own towel or mat. The library will also host a Cookies and Canvas event in June. The painting will have a cost of $5 and you must sign up in person as space is limited. The painting will be a vase with hydrangea flowers.

Linton Public Library will host Pre K-1st events on Tuesdays in June, 2nd-3rd events on Wednesdays in June and 4th-6th events on Thursdays in June, all at 1:30 p.m.. Join for games, crafts and snacks. These activities will earn a ticket towards the raffle in the Summer Reading Program.

Bohley Cemetery in Greene County is accepting donations for the mowing season. Those wishing to donate are asked to make checks payable to Bohley Cemetery and send to Teresa Bartlett at 1657 N. St Rd 157 in Bloomfield.

American Legion Auxiliary 479 in Lyons will host a breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the third Saturday of every month, including a full breakfast menu.

Team of Mercy Suicide Support Group meets the third Thursday of every month from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at Switz City Fire Department at 206 Charlotte Ave in Switz City. This is a closed meeting for those who have lost a loved one to suicide. We want individuals to feel safe and comfortable and know we take their grief very seriously. Lyons Town Council will hold regular meetings at 5:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the Lyons Community Building meeting room, 600 West Broad Street in Lyons.

Westgate Board meetings for 2023 will take place on the second Tuesday of the month at WestGate Academy at 1:30 p.m..

Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library will host family game day on the second Friday of the month from 12:30-4:30 p.m.. Everyone is invited to join and spare time for fun. Board games, card games and puzzles will all be available to play.

Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library will host chair yoga in the Annex on Wednesdays from 9:30-11 a.m..

Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library will host a writing circle from 1-2:30 p.m.. Bring what you would like to write about, rough or polished pieces or even just an idea.

Jasonville Public Library will host a story hour on the first Saturday of each month at 10 a.m.. Stories are read, crafts are made and treats are enjoyed. All are welcome.

The Eastern branch of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library will host story time at 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday. All children are welcome.

Feed My Sheep Bible Bookstore at 74 1/2 S. Main St. in Linton will be hosting community prayer meetings each Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.. Everyone is welcome. Please use the rear entrance where there is also parking available.

Apostolics of Greene County is offering a Christian Intervention Program for drug, alcohol or any addiction abuse. This is a 20-week ongoing program located at 310 E. Vincennes St. in Linton. Sessions are Sundays at 4:30 p.m. with the entrance on the west side of the building, going downstairs into the fellowship hall. An elevator is available at the north end of the west side entrance if needed.

The Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support group meets the first Monday of the month from 6-7 p.m. at Switz City Christian Church located at 286 Charlotte Ave in Switz City. For questions, call the Alz. Assoc. at 800-272-3900 or Dayna Firestone at 812-798-0325.

The Ladies Aid meets every third Wednesday at noon at the church. Come join the fellowship and fun. You need not be a member to join. The Community Men’s Group meets every second Saturday at 8 a.m. at the church. Breakfast is served. Everyone is invited. You do not have to be a member of the church.

The Greene County Literacy Coalition hosts twice-weekly meetings to foster language learning for native English and Spanish speakers. The group meets from 6-8 p.m. every Tuesday at the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library Annex and Wednesdays at the Linton Public Library. Apostolics of Greene County offers free lunch, good conversation and optional bible study at Grandma Bault’s Soup Kitchen located at Apostolic Church 310 E Vincennes Street in Linton every second and fourth Thursday of the month. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.. Word is given from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Dugger American Legion will host bingo from 6-9 p.m. each Saturday evening.

Newberry Town Council meetings are the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at town hall. If it is a holiday, the meeting will be the next evening, Tuesday at 6 p.m. Newberry Town Hall, 430 Broad St. (St Rd 57) in Newberry.

The Feed Store Silent Book Club will meet from 3-5 p.m. on the third Saturday of every month in the taproom of Feed Store Beer Co.. A short social time will kick off the club followed by silent reading time of any book of your choosing and discussions/recommendations to wrap things up.
