Shirley Jeneane (Auten) Hudson

Shirley Jeneane (Auten) Hudson, 88, of Bloomfield, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, June 30, 2024 at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis.

Shirley was born July 12, 1935 to Clifford Auten and Ferris Lucille (Hendricks) Auten Rowe. She married Conrad Rex Hudson December 30, 1951, and enjoyed being part of the Wendell and Pearl Hudson family for over 72 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; her son Rick; her sister Betty Auten; her sister JoAnne (Auten) Hall; her brother Daniel; and Shirley Ann Auten.

She is survived by her daughter Amy (Cameron) Gilmore; daughter-in-law Nancy Hudson; grandchildren Carla (Ryan) Priest, John (Tricia) Hudson, Taylor Gilmore and Christopher Gilmore; great-grandchildren Elizabeth Jane Priest (fiancé Ian Staggs), Lauren Hudson, Travis Priest, Maggie Hudson, Allison Hudson, Elle Malone and Finn Malone; brother-in-law Bill Hall. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Shirley was a 1952 graduate of Solsberry High School.

She worked at Indiana Bell as a telephone operator, Bloomfield Silo Company and as a bookkeeper for Stalcup Accounting. In her later years, she served as a volunteer tax preparer.

As a coaches wife and avid sports fan, Shirley spent countless hours at sporting events. She and Rex found great joy supporting student athletes in all sports.

They were Bloomfield Cardinals sports fans. They also enjoyed attending all other sporting events in the area.

Shirley loved to entertain and was a wonderful cook and known for her fantastic pies, which were enjoyed by so many.

Shirley was an active member in the Bloomfield Church of Christ. She established the cradle roll class, which involved singing songs and teaching Bible stories and memory verses for young children. Shirley loved to sing. She was active in serving her church family.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2024 at the Bloomfield Church of Christ and 10 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday at the church.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bloomfield Church of Christ with Brother Joshua Riggins officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution in Shirley’s name to the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene Public Library or the Bloomfield Church of Christ.
