Monday, Aug. 2

* Linton-Stockton Elementary School, grades K through 5, will have registration in front of the office in the elementary building from 8:30 a.m. - noon and 1 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. All returning students and pre-enrolled kindergarten students must register for the new school year. Please note: Incoming sixth graders will register at the junior high.

* Greene County CAPE Consortium will meet at 8:30 a.m. to discuss personnel.

* Greene County Hospital Auxiliary will meet at 1:30 p.m. in the conference room.

Tuesday, Aug. 3

* Linton-Stockton High School will have registration in the high school media center from 8:30 a.m. - noon and from 1 - 6 p.m. You may enroll on-line at www.lssc.k12.in.us under the high school section and you may update student demographic information and print off and complete the registration forms which will expedite the enrollment process. You also need to sign into your child's Harmony account and update the information there as well. The first day of classes for students is Aug. 16.

* The Bloomfield Town Council will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. in the fire station. The meeting is open to the public.

* Bloomfield Chapter Order of the Eastern Star will have its Deputy Visits. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. The social will start at 6:30 p.m. Ellen Davis from the Sullivan Chapter will be giving instructions.

* Mosquito spraying will take place in the town of Worthington.

* The photography club will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Linton Public Library. For more details call the library at 847-7802.

* Vacation Bible School at Lebanon Baptist Church in Midland is underway. The theme is "Son Harvest County Fair - Growing the Fruits of the Spirit". The program will run 6-8 p.m. nightly until Aug. 6. The closing program will be at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 8. Open to pre-kindergarten through high school. Story time, crafts, snacks, games, a canned food/toiletry items drive and many more fun activities will be featured. For more information or transportation call 665-2018.

* The regular meeting of the Citizen's Academy Legacy Organization (CALO) will be at 7 p.m. at the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene Public in the community room on the ground floor.

* The Alzheimer's Association of Greater Indiana will host the program "Veteran's Aide and Attendance" at 6 p.m. at the Greene County Hospital. Program presented by Norm Sullivan.

* The 125th annual Odon Old Settlers festival is Aug. 3-7 at the Odon Park. Events on Aug. 3-4 start at 6 p.m., Aug. 5 at 6:30 p.m., Aug. 6 at 1 p.m. and Aug. 7 at 2 p.m. There will be free entertainment every night. * There will be an Alzheimer's Support Group on the first Tuesday of each month. It will meet tonight at 6 p.m. at the Bloomfield Hi-Rise at 100 W. Main Street in Bloomfield.

Wednesday, Aug. 4

* A Linton-Stockton High School junior class parents meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the high school auditeria. Discussion will be about future fundraising for prom and post prom.

* Newberry will flush its water hydrants. Please refrain from doing laundry. Water may be discolored Aug. 4 and 5.

Thursday, Aug. 5

* The Plummer River Rally opens today and runs through Aug. 8. The four-day outdoor music event and bike rally will be hosted near Plummer. The event, open to anyone 18-years and older, is located along County Road 350W. Entrance will be made off of County Road 500 South from State Road 57. The rally will feature a performance by national recording artists Seven Mary Three and Hairbangers Ball, a regionally popular band, along with local groups Rumor Factor and Wikker Elephant rounding out the line-up. There will be a six-band Battle of the Bands on Thursday with the winner earning a headline spot on the Saturday night line-up -- closing for Seven Mary Three. * There will be a Bloomfield Booster Club meeting at 7 p.m. in the Bloomfield Park open shelterhouse. New members are welcome to come and learn more about the club. If you have a son/daughter who is involved in Bloomfield Athletics, then this club is for you.

* The Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon at the Pepperoni Grill. Greene County Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Joan Bethell will be the guest speaker.

Friday, Aug. 6

* Trinity Lutheran Church will have a yard sale from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. with 50 percent of the revenue being donated to Linton Civitan Cloth-A-Child.

Saturday, Aug. 7

* The Indiana Spay/Neuter Alliance will be registering for August surgeries at the Pamida parking lot in Bloomfield from 1-2 p.m. Cost of the surgeries is $20 with voucher, and rabies vaccination is $10. Barn, stray, and feral cats are free. Bring $10 cash to register your pet. Transportation for the surgeries will be Aug. 30 to Petsalive Spay/Neuter Clinic in Bloomington. * The Freedom Community Center and Jolly Homemakers will host 'The Last Blast of Summer Cookout' from 4- 7 p.m. at the Freedom Community Center in Freedom. Entertainment by Scott White. Menu items will be priced separately and include: hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, cole slaw, chips, beverages and desserts. Proceeds will benefit the Freedom Community Center and Jolly Homemakers community Services Projects.

* Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock will be the guest speaker at a meeting hosted by the Greene Tea Party Patriots, starting at 1 p.m. at the Greene County Fairgrounds, located one mile east of Switz City.

Sunday, Aug. 8

* Linton-Stockton High School class of 1970 will celebrate its 40th reunion from 2 - 6 p.m. at the Roy Clark Building. No RSVP or cost and other graduating classes are welcome to visit.

* The 123rd Ray reunion will be at 12:30 p.m. at the east shelterhouse at Linton's Humphreys Park. There will be a pitch-in dinner, and everyone is asked to bring old and new photos to share.

Monday, Aug. 9

* The Lyons Senior Center will have an ice cream social from 2 - 6 p.m. Event also includes cobblers, bingo, other games, gospel music and more.

Tuesday, Aug. 10

* Linton-Stockton High School freshman orientation is at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditeria. Discussion will include expectations, changes a question answer session and more. Parents are welcome.

* Shakamak registration is from 8 a.m. - noon and 1 - 3 p.m. for all new students in K-12. Please bring your child's birth certificate, shot record, IEP (if applicable) and proof of residency. You will register at the elementary office or at the junior/senior high office. You may call 665-3550 to schedule and appointment to minimize your wait time.

* Student athlete echo screenings will be from 3 -4:45 p.m. at the Greene County General Hospital. Cost is $20 with checks payable to St. Vincent Medical Group. Consent forms may be picked up at the Greene County Daily World, ambulance office at the courthouse annex or at the Greene County General Hospital (admitting).

* White River Valley Jr./Sr. High School will offer pre-enrollment for the 2010-11 school year Aug. 10, 11 and 12. Counseling personnel will be on duty for new student enrollment Aug. 9 from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. with a lunch break from 11:30 a.m. - noon. New students are those that are new or transferring to the WRV School Corporation District. Pre-registration for all current 7th - 12th grade students will be from noon - 7 p.m. each day with a meal break from 4:30 - 5 p.m.: Aug. 10 for last names A - F, Aug. 11 for last names G - M, and Aug. 12 for last names N - Z. * The Friends of the Library continuing book sale is from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the lower lobby of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library, located at 125 S. Franklin St. in Bloomfield. A large selection of adult and children's books. Paperbacks 25 cents and hardbacks 50 cents.

Saturday, Aug. 14

* Descendants of Casper and Catherine Hasler will meet for an annual reunion at the Mineral United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Meat and drinks will be provided for the carry-in meal which is slated for 12:30 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 15

* A luncheon get-together for the descendants and friends of Harvey Sr. and Mildred Heaton Helms will be at 12:30 p.m. at the 100F Lodge located three miles north of Bloomfield on Highway 157. Bring a covered dish and photos.

Saturday, Aug. 21

* The third annual Greene County Farmers & Hunters Feeding the Hungry Buck$ for Hunger fundraiser banquet is at 5:30 p.m. at the Bloomfield First Baptist Church. * The Switz City Central High School 1940s and 1950s reunion will be at the Linton First Baptist Church. Invitations will be mailed out in early July.

Tuesday, Aug. 31

The Greene County Community Learning Center will host an information meeting from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to explain the day and half free Federal Contracting Workshop scheduled in September. The intent of the workshop is to help those interested assess their readiness and interest in federal contracting. Those wishing to continue will be scheduled to attend the day and half workshop on Sept. 9, and Sept. 25. The actual workshop will be hands-on and assist participants with understanding, registering, and reviewing federal contract opportunities. Half scholarships are available for up to eight people from Greene County, from the Hometown Competitiveness Program. The workshop is open to those from any county.

Saturday, Sept. 18

* The Edgewood High School Class of 1975 will hold its 35th reunion at the Stone Belt Shrine Club located at 7065 N. Stonebelt Drive. * The Linton Water Department will flush fire hydrants Aug. 1 - 6 from 8 p.m. - 6 a.m. Please refrain from washing light colored clothing during these hours as the water may become discolored.

* Free lunch is being offered Monday through Friday from noon - 1 p.m. to anyone 18 years of age and younger at the west shelter house at Humphreys Park. The program lasts through Aug. 13.

* The Newberry Little Mister and Little Miss Contest is now accepting participants. Child can enter if he/she is 3-5 years by Aug. 31. If interested in entering your child, please contact Linda Quakenbush at 863-7981 or Janet Merkel at 863-7787 to register your child.

* Habitat for Humanity of Greene County will be starting its next home on West Vincennes Street in Linton at the end of August. Habitat's Family Selection Committee will be choosing a family for this home before ground-breaking. If you are interested in partnering with Habitat of Greene County to receive this home you can pick up an application at Linton City Hall or the Linton Branch of Bloomfield State Bank.

* Bloomfield High School 2010-11 Event Calendars are now available for $5 each -- wall or pocket style. Visit the junior parents' table at school sign-ups Aug. 10-11. Also visit the school's Meet Your Teacher Night (Open House) on Aug. 16.

* Turning Point Education Center is now offering GED preparation classes at the Open Arms campus Monday through Friday from 8:15-11:15 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. and at WorkOne in Linton on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-8 p.m. For more information call Misty at 659-2533. * Hutsonville Community Days are Aug. 6-7 with a car show, street dance, inflatable bouncy toys, breakfast, fireworks and more.

* The Linton Fraternal Order of Police is accepting applications for its Back-to-School Clothing Program. Applications can be picked up at any local police station, or downloaded from lintonpolice.com. Completed applications must be submitted before Aug. 6.

* An early learning center is coming to Eastern Greene Schools this fall. Full-day early learning experience and care for children ages 3-5. Available times are 6:45 a.m. - 5:45 p.m. Log onto www.egreene.k12.in.us for more details or call 825-5722.

* The Worthington Public Library is having a book sale with all items 25 cents each or five for $1. The sale includes books, DVDs, VHS tapes, audio books and music CDs.

* This fall the Tdap, Meningococcal and second Varicella (with no history of disease) will be required for all school students who are in sixth through 12th grade. These immunizations continue to be offered at no cost to all students at the Greene County Health Department. Appointments are available now. Appointment hours are as follows: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:30 -11:15 a.m. and 12:45-3:30 p.m. Some extended hour clinics will be offered. You need to also check with your physician regarding possible well visits and vaccine updates. To make an appointment, call the GC Health Department at 384-4496 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can also check your child's current immunization update. The health department is located at 217 E. Spring St., Suite 1, Bloomfield.

* Donations are still being accepted for the Charles Hoskins Track Fund at Linton-Stockton School. Contributions can be made at any Regions Bank. Hoskins, who was a biology and chemistry teacher at the school from 1947 until 1972, guided the Miners track program for the entire 25 years.

* Books for babies is a national literacy program that acquaints parents and newborns with the important role they play in the development of their children. Parents are presented with a "Books for Babies" kit containing a book, baby's first library card and brochures with reading tips for parents and caregivers. If you are a new mother and a resident of Greene County in one of the following townships: Richland, Highland, Taylor, Beech Creek, Center or Jackson, you are eligible for a free gift for you and your baby. Please bring your baby in "to show him/her off" to a circulation desk in the main branch of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library at 125 C. Franklin St. in Bloomfield to receive your free gift.

* The Greene County Salvation Army will host its Christmas in July bell ringing campaign and bell ringers are needed through July 31 on Fridays and Saturdays only from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Shifts are assigned in two-hour increments unless more time is requested. Locations are at Bloomfield IGA and Linton Save-A-Lot.

* Linton VFW Post 7118 is accepting DD214s and applications for vets who have served on foreign soil and eligible members for the men's auxiliary. For questions call 847-9016 or visit the post -- which is located at 190 S. Main St. in Linton.

* Bloomfield IOOF Lodge meets at 7:30 p.m. each Tuesday of the month except for the last Tuesday which is a pitch-in dinner at 6:30 p.m.

* The Friends of Goose Pond encourages visitors to the area, to visit their website at www.friendsofgoosepond.org to stay in touch with events and news about the activities at the restored wetlands in Greene County. The site offers volunteer opportunities, recent bird sightings, and information on restaurants and lodging.

* Free, confidential Hepatitis C and Syphilis testing is available at the Greene County Health Department located at 217 E. Spring St. in Bloomfield. Call for 384-4469 for more information. Scheduled appointments preferred, but walk-ins welcome. Free HIV testing is slated for 1 - 3 p.m. Sept. 1.

* Odd Fellows Lodge 457 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month.

* The Bucktown Mount Moriah Cemetery Board is asking family and friends of loved ones resting at the cemetery for donations to assist with 2010 upkeep. Last year's upkeep exceeded $4,500. All donations should be made out to Mount Moriah Cemetery. Any help will be greatly appreciated. * The mobile food pantry will be at the Jasonville United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. to ? on the first Wednesday of the month.

* The Back Door Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the third Saturday of the month.

* The bridge on Greene County line road 1400 East between County Roads 550 North and 650 North in Beech Creek Township will be closed for repair. Approximate time of closing is three to four months depending on weather.

* Donations for the Bohley Cemetery on Lone Tree Road are now being accepted. Call 384-8375 for details.

* Ruby Moon-Houldson's latest Oprah's Book Club nominated novel, "More Than Angels: Once Upon a Dream" (book 3) is now available at the Linton Public Library. It is available in paperback and as an audio book. Please contact the library for the first two "More Than Angels" books. The paperback books are also available at the library.

* The recycling trailer that was formerly located at the Walmart parking lot has been moved to the south side of Linton near the city barn.

* The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. * Narcotics Anonymous will meet Saturdays at 7 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church on State Road 54 East. There will be open discussion and all are welcome.

* Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

* The Refuge Assembly of God food pantry will be open every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. to assist those living in Bloomfield. To donate, please contact Trina at 384-8093 during the pantry's open hours.

* The Ministry of the Linton Community and other volunteers have worked hard this winter to put plans in place for a community garden. The plan is to provide space for Linton residents who do not have an area to garden. The city has donated ground at the Conservation Club for that use. Anyone interested in obtaining a garden plot at the Linton Community Garden for this year may pick up and return the application at the Pace office or the Linton Food Pantry. There will be a fee of $5 . For further information you may contact the Linton Community Food Pantry.

* An Alzheimer's support group meeting will take place at 100 W. Main (Bloomfield Hi-Rise) in Bloomfield the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.

* The Mineral Christian Men's Group meets at 8 a.m. every third Saturday of the month at the Mineral Community Building.

* Greene County residents can officially start using their 9-1-1 addresses after they have received an official letter from the U.S Postal Service in Indianapolis.

* The Worthington Public Library is having an on-going book sale. All books are 25 cents each or five for $1.

* The Pleasantville United Methodist Church food pantry is now open on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 10:30 a.m. - noon.

* The Lyons Senior Citizens Center, 150 N. Jefferson St., now has wooden toy crafts for sale. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* The Lyons First Christian Church youth group meets at 6 p.m. on Mondays at the church's East Broad Street location.
