Photography club forming at Linton Public Library

Wednesday, July 28, 2010
Whether you're a shutterbug or you have mad photography skills, be sure to mark your calendar for Aug. 3.

Pauline Dudley provided details on the newly formed photography club that meets monthly at the Linton Public Library.

"It's for any level of photographer, whether you've never picked up a camera or you're a professional photographer," she explained.

Dudley, of Newberry, has always been a fan of photography, but wants to learn more.

"We'd like to have professionals share input," she added.

Dudley came up with the idea for the club after she realized the library hosted scrapbook meetings.

"In order to do well at scrapbooking, you must take good pictures ... so I went and talked to (Library Director) Shelley (Williams) about a photography club and she agreed," she explained.

Now, Dudley's trying to spread the word and recently put up flyers in Linton.

"We had one meeting and one or two people showed up," she noted. "We'd like to have it a monthly thing ... and we want to go with what the public wants."

Look for guest speakers, educational insight and discussion.

"This (coming) month we'll show a DVD called 'Understanding Digital Photography' ... each month will vary as to what we do," Dudley said.

Participants will also share and discuss their photography.

"We have 15 outdoor shots we need to take and next month it may be something else," she added.

One meeting may focus on lighting and another may be about Adobe Photoshop.

"We've had one lady who came last month who would like to learn how to get on the Internet and re-size photos for e-mail," she said.

The photography club will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 3 at the Linton Public Library. For more details call the library at 847-7802. It's free to attend.

I would love to come to these meetings. I have always loved photography and would love to learn more. I will not be able to attend the meeting. I work in Indy and do not get home until 6:30 M -F.

I would love to attend the meetings as well but I work til five and would not get there til after 5:30. I have been told that my phots I have taken look like they were professionally done and I would love to learn more about how to make them a little bit better. Hopefully it will work out for all of us in the long run.
