The quiet Greene County countryside in Washington Township will be bustling with rock music, motorcycles and scores of people Aug. 5-8 with the staging of the first Plummer River Rally.
The four-day outdoor music event and bike rally will actually be hosted on a 140-acre tract of farmland near the banks of the White River -- near the small rural community of Plummer.
The event, open to anyone 18-years and older, starts Thursday afternoon (Aug. 5) and continues through Sunday (Aug. 8).
The site is located along County Road 350W. Entrance will be made off of County Road 500 South from State Road 57.
The rally will feature a performance by national recording artists Seven Mary Three and Hairbangers Ball, a regionally popular band, along with local groups Rumor Factor and Wikker Elephant rounding out the line-up.
Seven Mary Three is most known for its 1995 breakthrough iconic single "Cumbersome", which continues to receive airplay on rock radio.
There will be a six-band Battle of the Bands on Thursday with the winner earning a headline spot on the Saturday night line-up -- closing for Seven Mary Three.
The Battle of the Bands will have Philpot from the Linton-Dugger area, Second Helping from Bedford, The 100 Proof Band from Bedford, Highland Grown from Spencer, Eyes on Fire from Indianapolis and Blind Rebel from Bedford competing for the top prize.
A decible-meter will be used to judge audience applause to determine a winner, co-promotor Luke Gechtman noted.
"Whoever gets the most and loudest cheers is going to win," he said. "The winner will get some prize money, but the big prize is being able to play after the national act."
The music at the rally for the most part will be rock, southern rock, 1980's hair music, metal, alternative with some rockabilly.
Comedian/hypnotist Joe DeVito will be featured in one-hour shows both Friday and Saturday nights.
There will also be a variety of field games -- including a wet T-shirt contest.
Admission is $40 for the four-days, which includes primitive camping. RV camping is $60 without electrical or water hook-ups or $250 with hook-ups.
Other additional fees are charged for support vehicles and trailers.
Co-promotor Matt York, who's regular job is a project engineer for the Indiana Department of Transportation, says Graber Brothers Construction from nearby Daviess County built the 60 feet by 30 feet main stage that features a 40 feet by 12 feet walkout.
A ticket booth was also constructed.
The site, which has been leased from a local farmer in Washington Township, also will feature numerous tent campsites along with 28 water and electric hook ups for RVs.
Restroom facilities and hot showers will be available.
Firewood and ice will be sold on site, however, no alcohol will be sold.
There will be eight food vendors -- most of them will be local -- selling fish, pulled pork, deep-fried polish sausage, brats, ribs, chicken, buffalo burgers and a variety of breakfast items.
The Newberry Masonic Lodge will also be serving breakfast at their lodge on Aug. 7. The event is open to the public.
A dozen merchandise vendors will be featured.
The promoters designed and built the site, stage and sound system hookups for growth and larger entertainment in the future.
Gechtman, who's been an avid rider for about 10 years, said an outdoor venue with Seven Mary Queen and The Hairbangers Ball should pull in about 5,000 people each, according to their respective management teams.
"If their numbers are correct, we're being optimistic and hoping for about 10,000 people. I want to do at least 5,000, but 10,000 -- the number of my goal. We're prepared for 15,000. On the property we can handle more than that, but we're not looking for that in the first year obviously," Gechtman said.
"The word is out there. I look for a big crowd. I hope to get a lot of local support," Gechtman noted.
"We've put flyers out all over the state," York added. "We can expect a pretty good turnout."

SOUNDS LIKE FUN. I'LL BE THERE FOR SURE
This sounds like a great time and alot like the boogie, do you have to be a member of ABATE??
This needs to be advertised more. This is the first time I have heard of this. This could be a huge party!
how about security??
what if u just want to come in for the evening how much would that cost ?????
40 dollars mags and I do believe there will plenty of security
Well I am thinking you all need to check out the website, there are lots of fees they havent mentioned, like $40 for your support vehicle, and if your support vehicle has a trailer its another $20. if you have a camper and its pulling a trailer another $60. not to mention you have to ride your bike if you dont pull it, down a mile or more gravel road!!
My question is also, if this is going to bring everyone business, why wouldnt you include some of the local bars for your bike run? instead of out of county ones?
always a critic among us huh
Not whinning, just stating facts, most bikers or bikes can not carry everything you will need for a 4 day event. so I think charging 40 for a support vehicle is NUTS. exspecially for something that isnt going to move the whole weekend except coming in unloading and going out after being loaded. I have attended the Boogie and other events around the state for years and NEVER have they charged such a high price for a support vehicle. that is what I think is crazy!! I think other than that their prices are reasonable and they have good bands playing. I think their turn out will be a lot higher if those charges where less! cause as of right now for two ppl to get in it would cost them over 100 including the support vehicle and that is WAY more than even going to the boogie
Hey Phil, I think they said ice would be for sale. Not free. Sorry to burst your bubble.
No halfsize if you are not an abate member they charge you to become a member if you want to see a concert......not much difference. No membership fees at this rally
well for one LA that isnt whinning just making some points. you know as it stands it cost over a $100 for 2 people to get in to this event than it does the boogie, and I have been to several events this summer and NONE of them had such high fees for parking your support vehicle. cause if anyone knows anything about going to a biker event that last 3 to 4 days, there is no way anyone can carry all that on their bikes. so they are basically sticking it to them for having to bring a support vehicle!! and that is wrong!!
yes I know they charge you to become a memeber, but you put in the 35 for the memember ship, 40 to get in for the weekend and 10 to park your support vehicle and you are still paying LESS than going to this event without a memebership fee attached to it!! that is my point. you are paying for this event 40 to get in and 40 if you have a support vehicle so on and so on!!! go to the web site and look!!!
don't go
Halfsize----as for the support vehicle you do not have to pay the $40. There is the option of unloading it outside the gate and using the wagon they are going to provide to bring your items inside. Therefore, you can use the free parking outside the gate!
how is that less halfsize
I just went to the Boogie and I didn't have to pay $10 to park my vehicle it was free in the parking field. I do believe they will have free parking available also, the support vehicle is if you want to have it on the actual part of the grounds where the party is taking place in the camping area instead of the free parking area.Should be a great time and can't wait!
