* The Indiana Department of Transportation will conduct a groundbreaking ceremony for Section 3 of Interstate 69 at 11 a.m. at Daviess County Municipal Airport, located on County Road 250 East near Washington. Section 3 runs from U.S. 50 (near Washington) via the State Road 57 corridor and cross country to U.S. 231 the near Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center in Greene County.

Thursday, July 22

* The White River Valley Board of School Trustees will meet in regular session at 7:30 p.m. in the administrative center located in the junior-senior high school. An executive session will precede the meeting at 6:30 p.m. to discuss personnel.

Saturday, July 24

* Central High School Class of 1985 will have its 25th reunion at 5 p.m. in the Girl Scout Cabin in Linton Park. If you were a member of our class and have not been contacted, please get in touch with Terri Newcom Sullivan at 384-2864.

* An ice cream social will be held at the community building at Mineral United Methodist Church from 5-7 p.m. with music from 5:30 -6:30 p.m.

* A Walk for Michelle Dawn Wright Benefit will be from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. at Hanna Field in Jasonville. All proceeds go to help pay for Wright's funeral and monument expenses. Look for live musical entertainment, a softball tournament, car show, bike show, cornhole tournament and more. * First Baptist Bloomfield, 500 Lincoln Drive, will host Southern gospel singer/songwriter Miles Pike. Pike will sing during the 10:45 a.m. worship service and in concert at 6 p.m. A love gift offering will be received at the concert. Pike is well known to fans of Southern Gospel. His recording of "Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me" has been in the Top 10 country gospel charts since February, with the song hitting the No. 1 spot in March. He is also involved in prison ministry and overseas missions. For more information on the event, call the church at 384-8459.

* A Back to School Party and Dinner will be from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Sandborn Community Building. All proceeds will go toward the purchase of school shoes for North Knox students. Dinner includes fried chicken, hot dogs, potato salad, green beans, drinks and desserts. Donations accepted.

* The annual Fearnot family reunion will be at Walnut Grove Fellowship Hall with a potluck dinner at noon.

Monday, July 26

* Bloomfield FFA Chapter will meet in the Bloomfield School Ag Room at 7:30 pm. The state fair will be discussed.

* The Linton-Stockton Board of School Trustees will meet in regular session at 7:30 p.m. in the administrative center. The meeting will be preceded by an executive session at 6 p.m.

Tuesday, July 27

* Linton-Stockton Elementary School will host a new student registration day (for students new to the school district) from 8:30 a.m. to noon. For more information call the school at 847-6039.

* Vacation Bible School will be at Pleasant Grove Church of Christ from July 27-29 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. "Bible Heroes" is the theme. Pleasant Grove Church of Christ is located three miles west of Lyons and five miles southeast of Linton on County Road 300 South. Classes will be available for ages 3 through junior high school. Each evening will feature stories, songs, games, crafts and refreshments. A celebration for families will be Aug. 1 at 6:30 p.m. Call 847-8428 for a ride.

Wednesday, July 28

* The meeting of the executive board of the Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative will meet in executive session at 8:30 a.m. with the regular meeting to follow at 10:30 a.m. in the conference room at the Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative, 77 A St., N.E., Linton.

* The Greene County Coin Club will host a large auction at the 4-H Building beginning at 7 p.m. There will be more than 400 lots for auction. The auctioneers will be Freije and Freije from Indianapolis. The public is welcome to attend.

Thursday, July 29

* Greene County Memory Makers Quilt Guild will conduct their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. at Worthington Public Library. Marilyn Meek is in charge of the program.

* Jasonville Lodge 530 F&AM will have work in the FC degree. The meal will be served at 6 p.m., and work begins at 7 p.m. Visiting brethren are welcome.

Saturday, July 31

* Lyons Assembly of God Church will host the Sherman Mountain Boys of Arkansas at 7 p.m. The church is located at 610 West Prairie St.

* Lamb Jam 2010 will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the Roy Clark Community Building, behind Linton's Humphreys Park Linton. The concert features Christian artists For His Glory, By His Wounds, 631, Hwy 111, The Midnight Scene, The Blood Brothers Band, One After Me, Cry For Mercy, Suffered This Far, Here Comes Tragedy, Deify and Nail Driven. Several solo artists and guest speakers will be also be involved. Tickets are available at the door for a $2 donation. Door prizes will be given away throughout the day. Concessions will be available from The Linton Community Food Pantry. Lamb Jam 2010 is sponsored by New Deal Multimedia, Markle Music, Conservatory of Music, Angell's Electronics/ Radio Shack, Lamar Imaging, and Linton Community Food Pantry. * A benefit ride and silent auction for Corbin 'Truck' Whelchel sponsored by the American Legion Riders Chapter 196 with all proceeds going to medical bills. Sign-up at 9 a.m. at the Bloomfield American Legion Post. Cost is $15 a single and $20 a couple. Non-rider dinner cost is $5.

*The regular meeting of the Citizen's Academy Legacy Organization (CALO) will be conducted at 7 p.m. at the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene Public in the community room on the ground floor.

* Linton-Stockton Elementary School, grades K through 5, will have registration in front of the office in the elementary building from 9 a.m. - noon and 1 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. All returning students and pre-enrolled kindergarten students must register for the new school year. Please note: Incoming sixth graders will register at the junior high. If you have recently moved into the L-S School District contact the elementary office at 847-6039 so room assignments can be made and records obtained.

* There will be an Alzheimer's Support Group on the first Tuesday of each month. It will meet tonight at 6 p.m. at the Bloomfield Hi-Rise at 100 W. Main Street in Bloomfield.

* The Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon at the Pepperoni Grill. Greene County Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Joan Bethell will be the guest speaker.

Friday, Aug. 6

* Trinity Lutheran Church will have a yard sale from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. with 50 percent of the revenue being donated to Linton Civitan Cloth-A-Child.

Saturday, Aug. 7

* Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock will be the guest speaker at a meeting hosted by the Greene Tea Party Patriots, starting at 1 p.m.at the Greene County Fairgrounds, located one mile east of Switz City.

Monday, Aug. 9

* Linton-Stockton High School will have registration in the high school media center from 8:30 a.m. - noon and from 1 - 6 p.m. You may enroll on-line at www.lssc.k12.in.us under the high school section and you may update student demographic information and print off and complete the registration forms which will expedite the enrollment process. You also need to sign into your child's Harmony account and update the information there as well. The first day of classes for students is Aug. 16.

Saturday, Aug. 21

* The Switz City Central High School 1940s and 1950s reunion will be at the Linton First Baptist Church. Invitations will be mailed out in early July.

* Turning Point Education Center is now offering GED preparation classes at the Open Arms campus Monday through Friday from 8:15 - 11:15 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. and at WorkOne in Linton on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 - 8 p.m. For more information call Misty at 659-2533. The Open Arms campus is located across from the 4-H fairgrounds on State Road 54 East. WorkOne is located at the Linton Shopping Center.

* Hutsonville Community Days are Aug. 6 - 7 with a car show, street dance, inflatable bouncy toys, breakfast, fireworks and more.

* The Linton Fraternal Order of Police is accepting applications for its Back-to-School Clothing Program. Applications can be picked up at any

local police station, or downloaded from lintonpolice.com. Completed applications must be submitted before Aug. 6.

* An early learning center is coming to Eastern Greene Schools this fall. Full-day early learning experience and care for children ages 3-5. Available times are 6:45 a.m. - 5:45 p.m. Log onto www.egreene.k12.in.us for more details or call 825-5722.

* The Worthington Public Library is having a book sale with all items 25 cents each or five for $1. The sale includes books, DVDs, VHS tapes, audio books and music CDs.

* This fall the Tdap, Meningococcal and second Varicella (with no history of disease) will be required for all school students who are in sixth through 12th grade. These immunizations continue to be offered at no cost to all students at the Greene County Health Department. Appointments are available now. Appointment hours are as follows: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:30 - 11:15 a.m. and 12:45 - 3:30 p.m. Some extended hour clinics will be offered. You need to also check with your physician regarding possible well visits and vaccine updates. To make an appointment, call the GC Health Department at 384-4496 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can also check your child's current immunization update. The health department is located at 217 E. Spring St., Suite 1, Bloomfield.

* Donations are still being accepted for the Charles Hoskins Track Fund at Linton-Stockton school. Contributions can be made at any Regions Bank. Hoskins, who was a biology and chemistry teacher at the school from 1947 until 1972, guided the Miners track program for the entire 25 years.

* Greene County Solid Waste District's mobile recycling trailer will be at the Greene County 4-H Fair today through July 17.

* Books for babies is a national literacy program that acquaints parents and newborns with the important role they play in the development of their children. Parents are presented with a "Books for Babies" kit containing a book, baby's first library card and brochures with reading tips for parents and caregivers. If you are a new mother and a resident of Greene County in one of the following townships: Richland, Highland, Taylor, Beech Creek, Center or Jackson, you are eligible for a free gift for you and your baby. Please bring your baby in "to show him/her off" to a circulation desk in the main branch of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library at 125 C. Franklin St. in Bloomfield to receive your free gift.

* The Greene County Salvation Army will host its Christmas in July bell ringing campaign and bell ringers are needed through July 31 on Fridays and Saturdays only from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Shifts are assigned in two-hour increments unless more time is requested. Locations are at Bloomfield IGA and Linton Save-A-Lot.

* Linton VFW Post 7118 is accepting DD214s and applications for vets who have served on foreign soil and eligible members for the men's auxiliary. For questions call 847-9016 or visit the post -- which is located at 190 S. Main St. in Linton.

* Bloomfield IOOF Lodge meets at 7:30 p.m. each Tuesday of the month except for the last Tuesday which is a pitch-in dinner at 6:30 p.m.

* The Friends of Goose Pond encourages visitors to the area, to visit their website at www.friendsofgoosepond.org to stay in touch with events and news about the activities at the restored wetlands in Greene County. The site offers volunteer opportunities, recent bird sightings, and information on restaurants and lodging.

* Free, confidential Hepatitis C and Syphilis testing is available at the Greene County Health Department located at 217 E. Spring St. in Bloomfield. Call for 384-4469 for more information. Scheduled appointments preferred, but walk-ins welcome. Free HIV testing is slated for 1 - 3 p.m. Sept. 1.

* Odd Fellows Lodge #457 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month.

* The Bucktown Mt. Moriah Cemetery Board is asking family and friends of loved ones resting at the cemetery for donations to assist with 2010 upkeep. Last year's upkeep exceeded $4,500. All donations should be made out to Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Any help will be greatly appreciated. * The mobile food pantry will be at the Jasonville United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. to ? on the first Wednesday of the month.

* The Back Door Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the third Saturday of the month.

* The bridge on Greene County line road 1400 East between County Roads 550 North and 650 North in Beech Creek Township will be closed for repair. Approximate time of closing is three to four months depending on weather.

* Donations for the Bohley Cemetery on Lone Tree Road are now being accepted. Call 384-8375 for details.

* The Newberry Little Mister and Little Miss Contest is now accepting participants. Child can enter if he/she is 3-5 years by Aug. 21 and has never won the contest before. Your child will collect a penny a vote starting the month of July. The money will be donated to the Riley Children's Hospital. * Ruby Moon-Houldson's latest Oprah's Book Club nominated novel, "More Than Angels: Once Upon a Dream" (book 3) is now available at the Linton Public Library. * The recycling trailer that was formerly located at the Walmart parking lot has been moved to the south side of Linton near the city barn.

* The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. * Narcotics Anonymous will meet Saturdays at 7 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church on State Road 54 East. There will be open discussion and all are welcome.

* Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

* The Refuge Assembly of God food pantry will be open every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. to assist those living in Bloomfield. To donate, please contact Trina at 384-8093 during the pantry's open hours.

* The Ministry of the Linton Community and other volunteers have worked hard this winter to put plans in place for a community garden. The plan is to provide space for Linton residents who do not have an area to garden. The city has donated ground at the Conservation Club for that use. Anyone interested in obtaining a garden plot at the Linton Community Garden for this year may pick up and return the application at the Pace office or the Linton Food Pantry. There will be a fee of $5 . For further information you may contact the Linton Community Food Pantry.

* A 10-ton load limit is now effective on all Greene County roads.

* County Road 250 West (between State Road 54 and Base Road) is now closed. Look for the road to be closed for at least four months depending in the weather. A new bridge will be put in.

* An Alzheimer's support group meeting will take place at 100 W. Main (Bloomfield Hi-Rise) in Bloomfield the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.

* The Owensburg-Jackson Township Fire Department is now offering CPR, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens classes for your business or for personal education. Please contact Fire Chief Amy Wilson at 863-2310 or e-mail at for more information.

* The Mineral Christian Men's Group meets at 8 a.m. every third Saturday of the month at the Mineral Community Building.

* The Linton Church of Christ now has a clothing pantry in the church garage. The pantry allows people to trade good clothes that are no longer wanted or needed for other suitable clothes. The church has some clothes but is in need of donations, especially clothing for children. Contact the church at 847-1894 to make a donation or for more information. The church is located at 4th and C Streets NW in Linton. Call as needed for the clothes pantry.

* Greene County residents can officially start using their 9-1-1 addresses after they have received an official letter from the U.S Postal Service in Indianapolis.

* The Worthington Public Library is having an on-going book sale. All books are 25 cents each or five for $1.

* The Greene County Afghans, sponsored by the Scotland Historical Society, can be purchased at Main Street Gifts, Linton; Greene County Historical Society and Mar' Lyn's, Bloomfield or by calling Brenda Massette 863-2874.

* House of Grace Coffee House will offer fellowship, food, worship and youth classes. The church is located at 792 S. Section St. in Dugger.

* The Pleasantville United Methodist Church food pantry is now open on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 10:30 a.m. - noon.

* Sign up for Linton Community Share at Linton City Hall on Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Lyons Senior Center Monday-Friday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Worthington Senior Center Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

* The Lyons Senior Citizens Center, 150 N. Jefferson St., now has wooden toy crafts for sale. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* The Lyons First Christian Church youth group meets at 6 p.m. on Mondays at the church's East Broad Street location.

* Linton residents can report problems with pot holes, street complaints and drainage issues by e-mailing them to turp@minerbroadband.com.

* The Jasonville Senior Citizen Center, located at 145 S. Lawton, has opened a country store and gift shop. It will be open from 9 a.m.-noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All proceeds will benefit the senior center. For more information, call the center at 665-9882.
