* Trash pick-up in Linton will run a day late due to the Fourth of July parade on Monday.

* American Legion Post No. 22 will host Casino Night. Open to the public.

* Linton Masonic Lodge # 560 F & A M will have a called meeting on the MM degree. Breakfast at 7 a.m. and degree work at 8 a.m. All Master Masons are welcome to attend.

* The annual Shanklin/Whitworth reunion will be at the shelter in Fowler Park in Terre Haute with a carry-in dinner at noon. All family, friends and neighbors of William A. Shanklin and Jeanetta I. (Hardesty) Whitworth Shanklin are welcome. The gathering will include a birthday tribute to the oldest living daughter, Juanita L. (Shanklin) Fulkerson of Linton. For more information call 384-8697.

* The Linton-Stockton Class of 1995 will have its 15-year reunion at 7 p.m. at the Linton Elks Lodge.

* The Linton-Stockton High School class of 2005 will have its five-year reunion from 7-9 p.m. Please limit guests to only members of the class and their significant others. * The Linton-Stockton High School class of 1960 will celebrate its 50th class reunion on July 3 at The Heritage House (formerly Elks Club) on North Main St. Several members have not been heard from, if you did not receive or know of someone who didn't receive an invitation, the class probably had a wrong address due to moving or the 911 address changes. * Linton Community Food Pantry will be closed and will re-open July 6.

* The Linton-Stockton High School Class of 1990 will celebrate its 20th year class reunion starting at noon at the American Legion Park in Linton.

* The Linton-Stockton High School Class of 2000 will host its 10th year class reunion with dinner and a DJ at 6 p.m. at the Greene County Shrine Club on White Rose Road. Cost is $12 per person and is payable in advance; however fees can be paid at the door with prior reservations. RSVP by June 28. Dinner arrangements will be based on number of guests. * The Linton-Stockton High School Class of 1980 will host its 30th year class reunion; there are a couple of events scheduled. Reunion brunch will be at Old Bank & Company on South Main Street, which will start at 10:30 a.m. The cost is around $10 per person and payable at brunch. Please contact Lori, Kathy, or Sandy (contact information below) if you and/or your spouse will be attending. Reunion dinner will be at the Linton VFW on South Main Street. Social hour will begin at 6:30 p.m.; dinner will be at 7:30 p.m.; and entertainment will begin around 9 p.m. The cost for the evening will be $20 per person and is payable in advance. * The descendants of George and Susan Frye will celebrate the 43rd annual family reunion at the Switz City Christian Church's fellowship hall with a pitch-in dinner at 12:30 p.m.

Monday, July 5

* Linton's Freedom Festival parade kicks off at 10 a.m. in downtown.

* The Linton Public Library will be closed 5 in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

Tuesday, July 6

* Bloomfield Chapter Order of the Eastern Star will meet for social at 6:30 p.m. and a meeting at 7:30 p.m. Meeting will be honor our country and obligation night. All members are urged to attend. For information regarding OES call 384-8516.

* Due to the holiday, the Greene County Emergency Medical Service Board will meet at 10:30 a.m. or immediately following the commissioners meeting in the Greene County Courthouse.

The Greene County Commissioners will meet in regular session at 9:30 a.m. in the third floor meeting room at the courthouse in Bloomfield. The meeting was originally scheduled for July 5, but was rescheduled because of the Independence Day holiday.

* Worthington Town Council will conduct an executive meeting at 5 p.m. at town hall. The purpose of the meeting is personnel matters.

* An Alzheimer's Support Group will meet at 6 p.m. at the Bloomfield Hi-Rise located at 100 W. Main St. in Bloomfield. For more information, call Linda at 798-1589.. The group meets on the first Tuesday of each month.

Thursday, July 8

* The MSD of Shakamak Board of Trustees will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. in the high school media center and at 6:30 p.m. in executive session in the central office conference room.

* The Friends of the Library continuing book sale will be from 10 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. in the lower lobby of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library, 125 S. Franklin St., Bloomfield. A large selection of adult and children's books -- paperbacks 25¢, hardbacks 50¢.

* The Greene County Sheriff's Merit Board will meet at 6 p.m. in the conference room at the Greene County Jail. The jail is located at 204 County Road 70 East, at the edge of Bloomfield.

* The Bloomfield School Board will meet in special session at 7 p.m. in the junior high conference room to reorganize.

Saturday, July 10

* The Furnace School reunion will be at the Mineral Community Building with a pitch-in dinner at noon. Drinks will be furnished. Please bring photos.

* Jasonville fireworks will be at dusk at Hanna Field with a rain date of July 11 at dusk.

* The annual Mowery reunion will be from noon until 5 p.m. at the community building at the Dugger Park. A covered dish lunch will be served at noon, and table service will be provided. Please notify all your relatives and encourage them to attend.

Sunday, July 11

* White River Baptist Church of Bloomfield will host its Vacation Bible School today through Thursday. The theme is Saddle Ridge Ranch. Ages 3 years through sixth grade are invited. It is from 6-8 p.m. For more information please call 384-8664.

* The Peter and Elizabeth Kolb Hasler family reunion will be at the Scotland Firehouse. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by a pitch-in meal at 12:30.

* The Linton City Council will meet in regular monthly session at 7 p.m. The meeting will be preceded by an executive session at 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday, July 13

* The Greene County Veterans Council will meet at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Post 196 in Bloomfield.

Saturday, July 17

* The annual meeting of the Mt. Nebo Cemetery Association will be at 4 p.m. at the cemetery The road is open to the cemetery from the Scotland/ Newberry Road.

* The Barker family reunion will be at noon at the Odon Lions Club with a pitch-in dinner. Drinks furnished. Friends and relatives welcome.

* A biscuit, gravy, egg, sausage and pancake breakfast will be held from 7 - 10 a.m. at the Lyons Senior Center. Orange juice, coffee and milk will also be served. Donations only. Raffle tickets for a quilt will be on sale for $1 each or six for $5.

Sunday, July 18

The descendants of Hiram and Lucinda Johnson will conduct a family reunion at the Odon Town Park. Meat and drinks will be furnished and an auction will be held.

* The Pearson-Love family reunion will be at the Worthington Park with dinner at 1 p.m. Please bring a covered dish and an item for the White Elephant Sale.

Monday, July 19

* Linton First Christian Church will hold Vacation Bible School from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. July 19-23 with "The Gift" as the theme. Look for Bible lessons, music, missions, games, crafts and snacks planned for children ages 4 through those entering 6th grade. If you have questions call 847-9535.

Tuesday, July 20

* Bloomfield High School Class of 2012 parents will have a post prom meeting at 7 p.m. at the Bloomfield First Presbyterian Church. All interested junior parents (2010-11 juniors) are encouraged to attend.

Saturday, July 24

* A Walk for Michelle Dawn Wright Benefit will be held from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. at Hanna Field in Jasonville. All proceeds go to help pay for Wright's funeral and monument expenses. Look for live musical entertainment, a softball tournament, car show, bike show, cornhole tournament and more. Also look for raffles, a 50-50 drawing, T-shirts, car decals and inflatables for the kids. For more information contact Shayne Weaver at 798-8918.

* The annual Fearnot family reunion will be at Walnut Grove Fellowship Hall with a potluck dinner at noon.

Thursday, Aug. 5

The Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon at the Pepperoni Grill. Greene County Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Joan Bethell will be the guest speaker.

Saturday, Aug. 21

* The Switz City Central High School 1940s and 1950s reunion will be at the Linton First Baptist Church. Invitations will be mailed out in early July.

Ongoing events

* Greene County Solid Waste District's mobile recycling trailer will be in Bloomfield now through July 7. It will then be at the Greene County 4-H Fair July 12-17. The trailer will be out of rotation for minimal repairs July 8-11.

* Are you a poet or have a love of poetry? Linton Public Library is inviting poets to sign up to be a part of a poetry cafe. Contact the library 812-847-7802 or website: www.lintonpl.lib.in.us

* Books for babies is a national literacy program that acquaints parents and newborns with the important role they play in the development of their children. Parents are presented with a "Books for Babies" kit containing a book, baby's first library card and brochures with reading tips for parents and caregivers. If you are a new mother and a resident of Greene County in one of the following townships: Richland, Highland, Taylor, Beech Creek, Center or Jackson, you are eligible for a free gift for you and your baby. Please bring your baby in "to show him/her off" to a circulation desk in the main branch of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library at 125 C. Franklin St. in Bloomfield to receive your free gift.

* Tickets for the Cardinals and Dodgers game on July 18 in St. Louis are available until June 30 by calling Amy Wise at 798-2324 or 665-4047. The Shakamak Elementary Choir will sing at the game and this is a fundraiser for the choir's trip to Disney slated for next March. Tickets are $26 and are in sections 428 and 429. If interested please contact Wise before June 30.

* The Greene County Salvation Army will host its Christmas in July bell ringing campaign and bell ringers are needed from July 2-31 on Friday and Saturdays only from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Shifts are assigned in two-hour increments unless more time is requested. Locations are at Bloomfield IGA and Linton Save-A-Lot.

* The Linton Church of Christ food pantry is now only operating a food pantry. The clothing pantry is closed. For the food pantry call 847-1894 or 847-2854. If no answer, please leave a message and someone will return your call. The church is located at 239 NW 4th St.

* This fall the Tdap, Meningococcal and second Varicella (with no history of disease) will be required for all school students who are in sixth through 12th grade. These immunizations continue to be offered at no cost to all students at the Greene County Health Department. Appointments are available now. Appointment hours are as follows: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:30 - 11:15 a.m. and 12:45 - 3:30 p.m. Some extended hour clinics will be offered. You need to also check with your physician regarding possible well visits and vaccine updates. To make an appointment, call the GC Health Department at 384-4496 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can also check your child's current immunization update. The health department is located at 217 E. Spring St., Suite 1, Bloomfield.

* Linton VFW Post 7118 is accepting DD214s and applications for vets who have served on foreign soil and eligible members for the men's auxiliary. For questions call 847-9016 or visit the post -- which is located at 190 S. Main St. in Linton.

* Bloomfield IOOF Lodge meets at 7:30 p.m. each Tuesday of the month except for the last Tuesday which is a pitch-in dinner at 6:30 p.m.

* The Friends of Goose Pond encourages visitors to the area, to visit their website at www.friendsofgoosepond.org to stay in touch with events and news about the activities at the restored wetlands in Greene County. The site offers volunteer opportunities, recent bird sightings, and information on restaurants and lodging.

* Free, confidential Hepatitis C and Syphilis testing is available at the Greene County Health Department located at 217 E. Spring St. in Bloomfield. Call for 384-4469 for more information. Scheduled appointments preferred, but walk-ins welcome. Free HIV testing is slated for 1 - 3 p.m. Sept. 1.

* Odd Fellows Lodge #457 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month.

* The Bucktown Mt. Moriah Cemetery Board is asking family and friends of loved ones resting at the cemetery for donations to assist with 2010 upkeep. Last year's upkeep exceeded $4,500. All donations should be made out to Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Any help will be greatly appreciated. * Linton Tri Kappa is selling cheese balls. Cheese balls with nuts are $6.50 and plain cheese balls are $6. Contact Beth Gillan at 847-2010 or any Tri Kappa member.

* The mobile food pantry will be at the Jasonville United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. to ? on the first Wednesday of the month.

* The Back Door Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the third Saturday of the month.

* The bridge on Greene County line road 1400 East between County Roads 550 North and 650 North in Beech Creek Township will be closed for repair. Approximate time of closing is three to four months depending on weather.

* Donations for the Bohley Cemetery on Lone Tree Road are now being accepted. Call 384-8375 for details.

* The Newberry Little Mister and Little Miss Contest is now accepting participants. Child can enter if he/she is 3-5 years by Aug. 21 and has never won the contest before. Your child will collect a penny a vote starting the month of July. The money will be donated to the Riley Children's Hospital. * Ruby Moon-Houldson's latest Oprah's Book Club nominated novel, "More Than Angels: Once Upon a Dream" (book 3) is now available at the Linton Public Library. It is available in paperback and as an audio book. Please contact the library for the first two "More Than Angels" books. The paperback books are also available at the library.

* The recycling trailer that was formerly located at the Walmart parking lot has been moved to the south side of Linton near the city barn.

* The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. The program is a service of the American Cancer Society and is free to cancer patients. For more information, call Dona Stewart at 384-4160 or visit Pam's Style Shop, at 3 County Road 70 E.

* Narcotics Anonymous will meet Saturdays at 7 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church on State Road 54 East. There will be open discussion and all are welcome.

* Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

* The Refuge Assembly of God food pantry will be open every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. to assist those living in Bloomfield. To donate, please contact Trina at 384-8093 during the pantry's open hours.

* The Ministry of the Linton Community and other volunteers have worked hard this winter to put plans in place for a community garden. The plan is to provide space for Linton residents who do not have an area to garden. The city has donated ground at the Conservation Club for that use. Anyone interested in obtaining a garden plot at the Linton Community Garden for this year may pick up and return the application at the Pace office or the Linton Food Pantry. There will be a fee of $5 . For further information you may contact the Linton Community Food Pantry.

* A 10-ton load limit is now effective on all Greene County roads.

* County Road 250 West (between State Road 54 and Base Road) is now closed. Look for the road to be closed for at least four months depending in the weather. A new bridge will be put in.

* An Alzheimer's support group meeting will take place at 100 W. Main (Bloomfield Hi-Rise) in Bloomfield the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.

* The Owensburg-Jackson Township Fire Department is now offering CPR, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens classes for your business or for personal education. Please contact Fire Chief Amy Wilson at 863-2310 or e-mail at for more information.

* The Mineral Christian Men's Group meets at 8 a.m. every third Saturday of the month at the Mineral Community Building.

* The Linton Church of Christ now has a clothing pantry in the church garage. The pantry allows people to trade good clothes that are no longer wanted or needed for other suitable clothes. The church has some clothes but is in need of donations, especially clothing for children. Contact the church at 847-1894 to make a donation or for more information. The church is located at 4th and C Streets NW in Linton. Call as needed for the clothes pantry.

* Greene County residents can officially start using their 9-1-1 addresses after they have received an official letter from the U.S Postal Service in Indianapolis.

* The Worthington Public Library is having an on-going book sale. All books are 25 cents each or five for $1.

* The Greene County Afghans, sponsored by the Scotland Historical Society, can be purchased at Main Street Gifts, Linton; Greene County Historical Society and Mar' Lyn's, Bloomfield or by calling Brenda Massette 863-2874.

* House of Grace Coffee House will offer fellowship, food, worship and youth classes. The church is located at 792 S. Section St. in Dugger.

* The Pleasantville United Methodist Church food pantry is now open on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 10:30 a.m. - noon.

* Turning Point Education Center in Switz City is offering GED preparation classes. Class times are available Monday through Friday from 8:15 to 11:15 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays 5 - 8 p.m. Interested students may contact Misty Hunt at 659-2533 for program information and enrollment requirements.

* Sign up for Linton Community Share at Linton City Hall on Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Lyons Senior Center Monday-Friday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Worthington Senior Center Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

* The Lyons Senior Citizens Center, 150 N. Jefferson St., now has wooden toy crafts for sale. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* The Lyons First Christian Church youth group meets at 6 p.m. on Mondays at the church's East Broad Street location.

* Linton residents can report problems with pot holes, street complaints and drainage issues by e-mailing them to turp@minerbroadband.com.

* The Jasonville Senior Citizen Center, located at 145 S. Lawton, has opened a country store and gift shop. It will be open from 9 a.m.-noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All proceeds will benefit the senior center. For more information, call the center at 665-9882.
