Library to use Evergreen system
The Linton Public Library will go live with the Evergreen system today. Due to this, the library will open at noon instead of the regular hour and will be open to only provide computers for patrons. The library will not be able to check books in or out until Friday morning at the regular time.

The Linton Public Library Board of Trustees will have their regular meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Linton library and this meeting is open to the public.

Linton kindergarten enrollment
It's time to pre-enroll students for the 2010-11 Linton kindergarten classes. During the month of April the school needs to know the names of those students who will be taking the kindergarten screening in May. Children who will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1, 2010 may take the screening which will be given in the kindergarten rooms in the elementary school on May 7. As pre-enrollment information is received, each child will be given an appointment time to come in for screening. Children's screening
Zorah Shrine Temple will sponsor a screening clinic for all children who are newborn to 18 years of age. The clinic is slated from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday at the Richard Lugar Center for Rural Health at 1433 N. 6.5 Street in Terre Haute. Screening will include large and small burns, reconstruct surgery, cleft lip and palet, port wine stains, brachial plexus, all orthopedic and spinal cord injuries. All care is with no financial obligation from patient or family.
White River Valley board to meet

Bloomfield United Methodist Church (60 W. Main) will host a Jonah fish fry April 18 from 4-7 p.m. The menu includes fish, sides, and drink. A bake sale will also be held with a variety of desserts. Concert to benefit Special Olympics

Cornhole tournament/spaghetti dinner slated
The Greene County Firefighters Association will sponsor a cornhole tournament and spaghetti dinner March 27 at the Greene County Fairgrounds near Switz City. The tourney begins at 11 a.m. and registration is $20 per team. A $200 first place, $100 second place and $50 third prize will be offered in the double elimination tournament. The spaghetti dinner will be from 3-6 p.m. Donations will be accepted for the meal of spaghetti, bread, salad and a drink. Mount Scholarship
The Greene County General Hospital will be working with Lawrence County Community Foundation, Inc. in order to award the Mathias and Eleanor Mount Scholarship Fund which recognizes the past services of long-time family practice physician and his wife from Bloomfield. Any student currently a senior in high school or attending college or vocation school that pertains to a healthcare career and is from one of the five local high schools is eligible. Applications are available at the Greene County Daily World in Linton, Greene County General Hospital administration (basement), Greene County Ambulance office at the Bloomfield courthouse annex or the local high school counselor's office and should be returned to the Greene County Hospital by March 24.

Longaberger basket/craftsman tool bingo
The ninth annual basket/tool bingo will be April 8 at the Lyons Community Building. Chocolate Breakfast
This year the Bloomfield Library's annual chocolate program will be a Chocolate Breakfast -- which is slated for 9 a.m. on March 23 at the Bloomfield Library. Children grades K -- 6 are invited to come for food and fun before the library opens. Children may bring an adult or guardian as a guest. You must pre-register, and the program is limited to 30. Peavey Cemetery
Spring clean-up for the Peavey Cemetery begins April 1. Wreaths and other such winter decorations need to be removed prior to this date. Memorial decorations that interfere with mowing should be removed prior to June 15.

Community garden
The Ministry of the Linton Community and other volunteers have worked hard this winter to put plans in place for a community garden. The plan is to provide space for Linton residents who do not have an area to garden. The city has donated ground at the Conservation Club for that use. Anyone interested in obtaining a garden plot at the Linton Community Garden for this year may pick up and return the application at the Pace office or the Linton Food Pantry. Load limit
A 10-ton load limit is now effective on all Greene County roads.
County Road 250 West to close
County Road 250 West (between State Road 54 and Base Road) is now closed. Look for the road to be closed for at least four months depending in the weather. A new bridge will be put in.
CGCMA Announces Lenten Season Schedule
The pastors of the churches which comprise the Central Greene County Ministerial Association in Bloomfield have charted the course for the upcoming Lenten season. Scheduled events include the following: Saturday -- Lenten Breakfast at Faith Christian 8 a.m.; March 27 -- Lenten Breakfast at Mineral UMC 8 a.m. The Lenten Breakfasts all begin at 8 a.m. and conclude by 9 a.m. They feature a delightful meal, singing, prayer, and a Lenten drama, all helping to prepare God's people in Bloomfield for the celebration of Easter. Recycling Center update
The Greene County Recycling Center will not accept old paint as part of its Household Hazardous Waste program through April. County Solid Waste Management Supervisor Erek Wilson said shutdown during the winter months is necessary because the facility used to store the materials is not heated. All other hazardous household waste products will continue to be accepted. The center accepts motor oil, oil filters, anti-freeze, mercury containing items, fluorescent light tubes, other household chemicals, as well as old computer components.
