Shakamak Elementary School will conduct kindergarten round-up April 8 from 9 a.m. - noon, 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m., and 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Children who are 5 years old on or before Aug. 1 are eligible for enrollment. Revival services

In order to resume mowing, all decorations on the ground must be removed by April 1 at the Scotland Cemetery.

Bloomfield kindergarten registration

Bloomfield Elementary School will hold kindergarten registration for the 2010-11 school year from 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. April 2 at the elementary school. Parents may enter the school from South Street at the superintendent's office with registration in the Literacy Lab. Students must be by 5 years of age by Aug. 1. Please bring the following information: child enrolling, immunization record, social security number, copy of birth certificate, proof of residence (township) and emergency phone numbers. Bloomfield Rotary chili supper/auction

The 10th annual Bloomfield Rotary chili supper/auction is Thursday at the Bloomfield High School cafetorium with the meal at 6 p.m. and auction at 7 p.m. Proceeds go to Rotary scholarships. Tickets are available at REMC or from any Rotary member. Advance price is $5 and it's $6 at the door. Meal includes chili, sandwich and drink. Memory Makers Quilt Guild to meet

Greene County Memory Makers Quilt Guild will host its monthly meeting April 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bloomfield Public Library. Joan Baumann is in charge of the program, and all quilters are welcome.

Easter egg hunt

Lyons Health and Living Center will host an Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Age categories are 0-2, 3-6, 7-9 and 9-11. Look for the Easter Bunny as well as gold and silver eggs. Rain date is March 27.

Library to use Evergreen system

The Linton Public Library will go live with the Evergreen system today. Due to this, the library will open at noon instead of the regular hour and will be open to only provide computers for patrons. The library will not be able to check books in or out until Friday morning at the regular time.

Library board to meet

The Linton Public Library Board of Trustees will have their regular meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Linton library and this meeting is open to the public.

Cub Scouts to meet

Cub Scout Pack 468 will host its annual Buddy Bake Auction on March 29 at 7 p.m. The auction will be at the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield. There will be a variety of baked goods made by the Scouts and all of the proceeds from the auction will be used to support Scouting events and activities. Linton kindergarten enrollment

It's time to pre-enroll students for the 2010-11 Linton kindergarten classes. During the month of April the school needs to know the names of those students who will be taking the kindergarten screening in May. Children who will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1, 2010 may take the screening which will be given in the kindergarten rooms in the elementary school on May 7. As pre-enrollment information is received, each child will be given an appointment time to come in for screening. Anyone who needs a pre-enrollment form should contact the elementary school office at 847-6039. Required Immunizations for school enrollment are: 5 doses of DTaP/DTP/DT, 4 doses of polio, 2 doses MMR, 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine, 2 doses of Varicella, or date of chickenpox disease.

Democrat Women's Club to meet

The Greene County Women's Democrat Club will meet April 6 at 6 p.m. at the Pizza Villa in Jasonville.

Red Bonnet Belles

Red Bonnet Belles will meet at 11 a.m. at Pamida on Saturday to carpool to Bloomington and dine at the Sweet Grass restaurant at noon.

The Indiana Blood Center will have a blood drive from 3 - 6 p.m. March 22 at the Linton First United Methodist Church.

Greene County Solid Waste District's mobile recycling trailer will be in Bloomfield today through March 24.

Children's screening

Zorah Shrine Temple will sponsor a screening clinic for all children who are newborn to 18 years of age. The clinic is slated from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday at the Richard Lugar Center for Rural Health at 1433 N. 6.5 Street in Terre Haute. Screening will include large and small burns, reconstruct surgery, cleft lip and palet, port wine stains, brachial plexus, all orthopedic and spinal cord injuries. All care is with no financial obligation from patient or family.

White River Valley board to meet

The WRV School Board will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. Thursday in the administrative center. An executive session will precede the open meeting at 6 p.m.

WRV kindergarten enrollment

White River Valley Lyons and Worthington Elementary School will conduct kindergarten enrollment April 16. At Worthington, pre-enrollment will be alphabetically by last name on the day of enrollment. 1 p.m. -- last name beginning with "A" through "M", and 2 p.m. -- last name beginning with "N" through "Z." Lyons pre-enrollment will be anytime between noon and 2 p.m. on the day of enrollment. Your child must be 5 years old by Aug. 1 to be eligible for enrollment.

Linton Masons to meet

Linton Masonic Lodge 560 F&AM will have a called meeting on the M.M. Degree Thursday with dinner at 6 p.m. and degree work at 7 p.m. All Master Masons are welcome to attend.

Blessed Hope Baptist Church

Sunday is "School Mate" Sunday at Blessed Hope Baptist Church. Bring a friend from school with you to church and show your school spirit. Tornado spotter's course

A National Weather Service tornado spotters course will be conducted at the Greene County Fairgrounds near Switz City at 7 p.m. April 6. The class is sponsored by the Greene County Emergency Management Agency.

Jonah fish fry at Bloomfield UMC

Bloomfield United Methodist Church (60 W. Main) will host a Jonah fish fry April 18 from 4-7 p.m. The menu includes fish, sides, and drink. A bake sale will also be held with a variety of desserts. Tickets cost $7.50 for adult, $5 for children 5-12, and free for children 4 and younger. All proceeds will go toward youth programs.

Concert to benefit Special Olympics

Greene County Special Olympics will host a benefit concert April 3 at Linton-Stockton High School Auditeria featuring "Backroads Band." Donations will be accepted for the 5 to 7 p.m. concert.

Crossroads Community Church

Crossroads Community Church -- which is located at the Intersection of State Road 37 and Trogden Lane just north of Bedford -- presents the musical drama "And After The Judgment". Worthington Old Fashioned Day

Worthington merchants will host an Old Fashioned Day from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. May 1. Booth space is available for vendors selling items that qualify as old fashioned and educational or artisan booths are also encouraged to attend at no charge. The cost of a 6 foot vendor space is $5. Greene County Tourism Advisory Board

The Greene County Tourism Advisory Board will meet from 6-7:30 p.m. on March 25 at Stoll's Country Inn in Linton. This will be an "eat and meet" format and all are welcome to attend. Additional monthly meeting dates will be announced at a later date.

Recycling trailer

The recycling trailer that was formerly located at the Walmart parking lot has been moved to the south side of Linton near the city barn.

Computer basics

Need a little help navigating the computer world? On April 16 from 9-10 a.m., Bloomfield Public Library Librarian John Helling will start at the beginning and talk you through the process of using the computer. Please register at the Bloomfield Public Library for this free class (384-4125).

How to preserve your family's memories

Heritage Education Resources of Bloomington will present a workshop at the Bloomfield Public Library to help you learn how to preserve your family's memories. The April 6 workshop from 5-7 p.m. will focus on documenting your family's history. This is a free program in the Community Room.

Cornhole tournament/spaghetti dinner slated

The Greene County Firefighters Association will sponsor a cornhole tournament and spaghetti dinner March 27 at the Greene County Fairgrounds near Switz City. The tourney begins at 11 a.m. and registration is $20 per team. A $200 first place, $100 second place and $50 third prize will be offered in the double elimination tournament. The spaghetti dinner will be from 3-6 p.m. Donations will be accepted for the meal of spaghetti, bread, salad and a drink. Faith Community Church will host "An Easter Remembrance" at 6:30 p.m. March 28. The church is located between Dugger and Pleasantville on State Road 159.

Mount Scholarship

The Greene County General Hospital will be working with Lawrence County Community Foundation, Inc. in order to award the Mathias and Eleanor Mount Scholarship Fund which recognizes the past services of long-time family practice physician and his wife from Bloomfield. Any student currently a senior in high school or attending college or vocation school that pertains to a healthcare career and is from one of the five local high schools is eligible. Applications are available at the Greene County Daily World in Linton, Greene County General Hospital administration (basement), Greene County Ambulance office at the Bloomfield courthouse annex or the local high school counselor's office and should be returned to the Greene County Hospital by March 24.

Longaberger basket/craftsman tool bingo

The ninth annual basket/tool bingo will be April 8 at the Lyons Community Building. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Hearing Aid Services in Linton, Becky's Beauty Salon in Lyons and Cathy's Beauty Salon in Switz City. Proceeds go to community projects.

Chocolate Breakfast

This year the Bloomfield Library's annual chocolate program will be a Chocolate Breakfast -- which is slated for 9 a.m. on March 23 at the Bloomfield Library. Children grades K -- 6 are invited to come for food and fun before the library opens. Children may bring an adult or guardian as a guest. You must pre-register, and the program is limited to 30. Peavey Cemetery

Spring clean-up for the Peavey Cemetery begins April 1. Wreaths and other such winter decorations need to be removed prior to this date. Memorial decorations that interfere with mowing should be removed prior to June 15.

Linton Church of Christ food/clothes pantry

The Linton Church of Christ food pantry is open the third Tuesday of each month from 10 - 11:30 a.m. The clothes pantry will be open on the second Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. starting in April. Fish fry/gospel concert

Parkview Village will host a spring fundraiser Saturday. The event includes John Davidson's fish fry and the gospel sounds of Waterin2Wine. Linton City-Wide Yard Sale

Planning continues for the Linton City-Wide yard sale which will be May 22. Sign-up to get on the map is free (address only) and is now underway. Registration forms can be picked up at Linton Public Library. The Linton Public Library will also be renting 10x10 plots for $15. Look for sidewalk sales downtown the day of the sale, as well as fundraisers and church dinners throughout the community the day of the sale. Community garden

The Ministry of the Linton Community and other volunteers have worked hard this winter to put plans in place for a community garden. The plan is to provide space for Linton residents who do not have an area to garden. The city has donated ground at the Conservation Club for that use. Anyone interested in obtaining a garden plot at the Linton Community Garden for this year may pick up and return the application at the Pace office or the Linton Food Pantry. Load limit

A 10-ton load limit is now effective on all Greene County roads.

County Road 250 West to close

County Road 250 West (between State Road 54 and Base Road) is now closed. Look for the road to be closed for at least four months depending in the weather. A new bridge will be put in.

CGCMA Announces Lenten Season Schedule

The pastors of the churches which comprise the Central Greene County Ministerial Association in Bloomfield have charted the course for the upcoming Lenten season. Scheduled events include the following: Saturday -- Lenten Breakfast at Faith Christian 8 a.m.; March 27 -- Lenten Breakfast at Mineral UMC 8 a.m. The Lenten Breakfasts all begin at 8 a.m. and conclude by 9 a.m. They feature a delightful meal, singing, prayer, and a Lenten drama, all helping to prepare God's people in Bloomfield for the celebration of Easter. Recycling Center update

The Greene County Recycling Center will not accept old paint as part of its Household Hazardous Waste program through April. County Solid Waste Management Supervisor Erek Wilson said shutdown during the winter months is necessary because the facility used to store the materials is not heated. All other hazardous household waste products will continue to be accepted. The center accepts motor oil, oil filters, anti-freeze, mercury containing items, fluorescent light tubes, other household chemicals, as well as old computer components. The Linton Church of Christ now has a clothing pantry in the church garage. The pantry allows people to trade good clothes that are no longer wanted or needed for other suitable clothes.
