Jasonville waiting on firehouse bid recommendations from the engineer

Monday, March 8, 2010
Mayor Roy Terrill announced at Jasonville's City Council meeting Monday evening that the city is waiting on recommendations from engineers before it can continue with funding for firehouse bids.

Ten bids have been submitted.

Terrell also reported that several people have inquired about city property for sale. However, he said before there are any transactions the properties have to be properly listed and advertised.

During the discussion on street paving, clerk-Treasurer Charlotte Thomas advised the council that the street department did not have enough funds for paving.

"The city is already out of money for street materials," Thomas explained.

The board voted unanimously to have a Spring Cleanup on April 29 from 8 a.m. -- 8 p.m. and April 30 from 8 a.m. -- 12 noon.

The dumpsters will be located at Sycamore and SE Washington streets. Appliances, tires, computers, paint and shingles will not be accepted.

In departmental reports, Thomas said she had made investments of $200,000.

The fire department reported seven runs including five EMA runs, one fire and one auto wreck.

The street department plowed snow, cut brush on Kentucky St., put rock on alleys, and worked on equipment.

Police chief Rick Van Horn reported 10 traffic arrests, two wanted on warrant, one possession of marijuana, and one theft.

Van Horn also reported investigation of two theft cases, two criminal mischief cases, one minor consumption case, one false informing case and one possession of a controlled substance.

The police department also investigated five accidents in the city, issued five traffic warnings, five repair orders, five title checks and assisted other departments four times.

The council also announced several upcoming events scheduled in Jasonville in the near future.

A special council meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 15.

Project "Good Start" Forum will be at 10 a.m. on April 10 at Lawton Street Christian Church Fellowship Hall. There will be free food, drinks and child care. The agenda will include discussions on ways to improve Jasonville and how to get involved in the community.

The Good Samaritan Easter Egg Hunt will be at 1 p.m., March 27.

An Open House is also scheduled between 10 a.m.12 noon on April 10 at the McClanahan Funeral Home.

The Chamber of Commerce will meet at 6 p.m. tonight (Tuesday).

At 6:30 p.m. on March 18, the Lion's Club will sponsor a Junior/Senior High School Awards Banquet for students with a GPA of 3.5 and above.

Due to the absence of the city attorney, two alley issues were tabled.
