Miners fall to 9-6

Tri-North defeated Linton-Stockton 34-20 Saturday in a eighth grade boys basketball game.

The Miners slipped to 9-6 with the loss.

"We were not ready to play from the opening tip," said Linton-Stockton coach Darren Woodward. "They full court pressed us, which we expected and we did not handle it well at all.

"We finished with 19 turnovers, and most of them were unforced. We had a much better second half and cut their lead to six late in the third quarter, but couldn't get any closer."

Zach Riddell had three points and two rebounds for the Miners. Bryant Jackson tallied three points and four boards while Beau Eaton collected four points and nine rebounds. Paul Goodman hit for eight points and two rebounds and Ryan Woodward contributed two points and three rebounds.

Dane Rupska was out due to illness.

Eastern Greene game Saturday

The Eastern Greene at South Knox High School boys basketball game, which was called off Saturday, has been rescheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.

The junior varsity game will be first followed by the varsity game at 2:30 p.m.

Bloomfield game moved

The Dugger at Bloomfield seventh grade boys basketball game has been moved from Monday to Wednesday night. The game will start at 6 p.m. There will be no eighth-grade game as the Bulldogs only have one team.

Doane scored five

Kyle Doane scored five points for the Bloomfield junior varsity boys basketball team in a loss at North Daviess Friday.

His scoring line was omitted from the story.

Miner Hall of Fame inductions

and alumni game set

The seventh class of the Linton-Stockton Baseball Hall of Fame will be inducted at Roy Herndon Field on Sunday, May 9.

The ceremony will take place on the field at 1 p.m. and will be followed by the alumni game and home run derby.

All fans are invited to attend the event.

The 2001 Miner baseball team that won the Class 2A Eastern Greene Sectional and were Southridge Regional runners-up will be inducted into the Miner Baseball Hall of Fame at that time.

Members of the team that are planning to attend are asked to call coach Bart Berns (812) 384-6408 and let him know that you plan to attend the event.

Softball sign-ups

Sign-up for summer softball in Linton will be at the Linton Sporting Goods on the following Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. -- Feb. 20 and 27 and March 6.

Cost is $50 for each girl, $15 for the second girl in a family and $10 for each additional.

To be eligible, girls need to be between ages 4-18 as of Jan. 1, 2010.

Girls from surrounding areas are invited to sign-up. Participation in the fund raiser is required of each girl.

The final sign-up will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 10 at the East Shelter House. For more information, call Jeanette Beverstock at 847-7022.

Freshmen game moved

The White River Valley vs Bloomfield freshmen boys basketball game will now start at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 17.

Shakamak Youth League electing managers

The Shakamak Youth League (baseball, softball, t-ball) will hold a meeting Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. to elect managers of teams for the upcoming 2010 spring season.

Interested individuals must be at least 18 years of age.

Voting on managers is done by the officers of the Shakamak Youth League.

If interested but cannot attend the meeting, call the league president, Chris Fougerousse at (812) 798-1835 so he can include your name for consideration of managing a team.

Shakamak Youth League player registrations

Player registration for baseball (ages 6-12), softball (ages 5-18) and co-ed T-ball (ages 3-4 for girls and 3-6 for boys) will be on the following Saturdays: Feb. 20, Feb. 27, March 6 and March 13 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Hanna Field in the upstairs meeting room in Jasonville.

Cost of registration is $40 plus fundraiser for the first child, $30 plus fundraiser for the second child in the same family and $25 plus fundraiser for the third child in the same family. Cost is free after the third child.

Parents can opt out of the fundraiser by paying an additional $20 per child.

These prices are for children ages 3-12, softball players ages 13-18 will cost $50 each with no fundraiser.

Players from out of town are welcomed to join the league as well.

If a parent cannot attend one of the four registration dates, please contact league player agent Mark Miller at 665-2300 daytime or 665-2168 evenings.

Pictures, results welcome

The Greene County Daily World encourages area sports youth coaches or parents and elementary and junior high school coaches to submit pictures of your teams for publication as well as your game results.

Pictures should include identification information about all players and coaches as well as any other info about the team's accomplishments.

Pictures can be e-mailed as pdfs to hargisbj@yahoo.com or to sportswriterrick@yahoo.com. Actual photos can be dropped off at 79 S. Main St., Linton, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Photos can be picked up after they are published.

Results, including first and last games and any information, can be sent to the same addresses.

Miner game Wednesday

The Eminence at Linton-Stockton boys game will be played at 6 p.m. Wednesday. It was called off Friday.

Sectional tickets on sale

Bloomfield athletic director Ron McBride would like to remind fans that tickets for the Class 2A South Knox girls basketball sectional are on sale in the BHS athletic office until noon Thursday.

The Lady Cardinals will face Eastern Greene at 6 p.m. Friday in the first semifinal.

Season tickets, good for all three sessions are $9. Single-session tickets, which cost $5, will be available on game nights at South Knox.
