The first-time event is slated for June 12 and is the brainstorm of local artist Wyatt LeGrand.
But the idea was brought to the forefront at the February meeting of the Bloomfield Town Council by Judy Branstetter -- who serves on the Apple Festival Committee.
Branstetter told the council that the Apple Festival Committee would sponsor the event and requested permission to use the town park for the festival.
"Wyatt (LeGrand) will do the leg work," she said, noting the festival will be small the first year.
LeGrand explained, "It'll be a way to celebrate the arts in Greene County."
The festival would give local artists a way to showcase what they do, he added. It could pull in Bloomfield artists as well as those in the surrounding area.
If the weather is nice, vendors could be set up on the basketball courts, he noted. Otherwise, they might need access to shelterhouses.
Branstetter added, "It's just a start. It could be a one year thing, but we're hoping for an annual event."
The council had no problem with allowing the town park to be used for the event.
On Wednesday, LeGrand, also a member of the Apple Festival Committee, elaborated on the art fest in an interview with the Greene County Daily World.
He explained, "It's something I've been wanting to do since I opened my shop (LeGrand Art Studio and Gallery) up."
LeGrand suggested the art fest as a way to raise money for the Apple Festival.
"They (AF committee members) were looking for ways to get money for the Apple Festival and I suggested it," he said.
The art festival will hopefully grow community appreciation for the arts.
"People (in the area) are taking notice of it (art) and we need ways to appreciate and celebrate the arts," LeGrand said. "It's an opportunity for the community to see what the artists do and give them more business ... I want people to take notice of the arts."
He hopes to draw artists from Bloomington, (Little) Nashville and the local area to the event.
"Vendors will be able to sell their work and demonstrate their art. People won't have to come and buy something, they can also come and watch," he added.
Plans for the festival are still being ironed out.
For more information on the event or renting vendor space contact LeGrand at 384-6505.
LeGrand's art business is located at 2015 W. State Road 54, just outside of Bloomfield.

Hipsters...will they be serving PBR by the can and hipster hats like the one pictured? Perhaps some flannel attire and ironic t-shirts?
Grow up! I think it is great and I would love to show my children more local artist work. Thank you Wyatt.
Yeah, seriously. Thank you Wyatt! Excellent idea. And I love your hat. :)
That outfit is way too mainstream to appeal to the hipsters. Get it right Walter.
Kudos Wyatt, looking forward to the festival!
That's a typical hipster thing to say krebstar...you have revealed yourself. Also, don't deny your hipsterism...that's pretty much the main sign of a hipster. Go drink a PBR out of a can.
Maybe Wyatt can work with Casa del Muse Art Gallery and Studios in Bloomfield. I heard they were plannig on holding an Art Fetival in mid-May.
Easy Duchamp,
There was some sarcasm in that post.
Since the whole vest, fedora, and tie getup is worn by most 13 year olds and Miley Cyrus, that would make it totally offensive to a true hipster.
Now, if he was wearing a 70's ski vest over a tiny vintage polo shirt with cuffed jeans, then I would agree wholeheartedly with WalterTodd. As for the shoes? I'm saying Doc Martens, Skechers or some sort of casual dress shoe.
All kidding aside, Wyatt is a good guy.
