Stanifer, Nicol pace Lady Bulldog victory

Stanifer drained three, 3-pointers and finished with 26 points, and Nicol finished with a double-double -- 24 points and 12 rebounds as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 4-14. Stanifer also had eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.

"Obviously Morgan and Shana played very well for us," said Union (Dugger) coach Benji Boyd. "They both scored the ball, but also did a lot of other things to help us win. They could not stop Shayna inside."

Boyd said the girls played extremely hard. Cheyenne Goodman finished with eight points, including 6 of 6 at the foul line in the final two minutes. She also had five assists.

"This was not a game for the faint of heart. We did not get any breaks and this game could have gotten out of hand pretty quickly," he said. "We did not catch any breaks and it only got worse as we got closer. We settled down and played pretty good defense on their two guards, who are very good players.

"Cheyenne really stepped up at the line down the stretch. All of those free throws were one-and-ones, no double bonus or two shots."

The Lady Bulldogs were 16 of 21 at the foul line.

Hannah Elkins had a game-high 27 points for Medora.

The Lady Bulldogs will conclude the regular season at 6 p.m. Friday at home against North Central in another varsity-only game.

They will begin sectional play at Clay City at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Shakamak.
