Prom dress sale

There will be a prom dress sale Jan. 9 at the Greene County 4-H Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Anyone who has a prom dress to sell or wants to buy a dress is welcome. For those wanting to sell, dresses can be dropped off Jan. 8 at the fairgrounds from 7-9 p.m. or on Jan. 9 from 7-9 a.m. For more information contact Phoebe Fuller at 384-4610 or Amy Poe at 384-9059.

Smoking cessation classes

Smoking/chewing cessation classes will be offered weekly from Jan. 19-March 9 on Tuesdays from 6-8 p.m. at the Greene County General Hospital's conference room. Call 847-9502 to register.

Pleasant Grove Farm patriotic musical

The Pleasant Grove Farm patriotic musical show runs today through Jan. 2. The farm is three miles south of Linton on County Road 300 South near County Road 1100 West. Tune to FM 90.1 before you enter the gate. For more information log onto www.pleasantgrovechristmas.com.

Biscuit and gravy breakfast

Due to New Year's, the Jasonville Senior Center has rescheduled its biscuit and sausage gravy breakfast for Jan. 8 from 7- 9:30 a.m.

Linton library to close

The Linton Public Library will close at noon Thursday and all day Friday in observance of the New Year's holiday. The library will be open Saturday.

Greene County Singles

The Greene County Singles will host a dance and dinner Saturday at the Greene County Extension Building at Switz City. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m., and dance from 7-10 p.m. Admission is $5 with a food item, $6 with a 2 liter soda or $7 empty-handed. For more information call 825-4032.

Financial Peace University

Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Tulip Church of God in Bloomfield. The gathering will feature a video which explains what the Financial Peace University is all about. Those who choose to participate in the program will enter into a 13 week learning adventure tentatively slated for Thursday nights starting Jan. 14. Childcare will be provided. Greene County Republican

Central Committee

The Greene County Republican Central Committee has scheduled a 2010 candidates meeting at 6 p.m. on Jan. 12 at the Bloomfield High Rise. All current elected officeholders and prospective candidates are urged to attend.

Linton Moose

Linton Moose will celebrate New Year's Eve with the sounds of Dock Mill South at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. Food will be served and doors open at 7 p.m. Cost is $15 per person. Public is invited. Money goes to charity.

Restrictions on S.R. 57

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is announcing a load limit restriction has been established for the White River and White River Overflow bridges in Greene County. The bridges are located on State Road 57 (S.R. 57), 5.95 and 6.47 miles north of State Road 58. The new posted gross weight limit is 14 ton. The new posting is to preserve the structural integrity of the bridges. Vehicles rated more than 14 ton should seek an alternate route. Linton trash pick-up

Due to New Year's Day, Friday's Linton trash route will be picked up on Saturday.

Greene County General

Hospital Auxiliary

The Greene County General Hospital Auxiliary will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 4 in the conference room. Guest speaker will be Tim Johnson.

Linton 2010 reservations

The city of Linton will start booking reservations for the city park shelters Jan. 4, barring inclement weather. The mayor's office will open at 8:30 a.m. Reservations will be taken in the order the person arrives and a number will be available at the customer service window. You may pick up an application at that time and have it partially filled out allowing the line to move faster. Applications must be completed and payment made when reservation is confirmed. The Linton Rotary will not have Rotary Races in 2010 -- which will free up one weekend that has been requested in the past. The Music Fest will be in the park Sept. 3-5 and all shelterhouses will be closed. Please be advised that the city has permanent bookings each year, such as scout meetings, city events, Chamber of Commerce activities, Civitan meetings, etc. All of these bookings must be confirmed at the mayor's office by Dec. 30, 2009. If you are unable to come on your scheduled day, you may call in after 1 p.m. on Jan. 4 and schedule your reservation by phone.

Courthouse to be closed

The Greene County Courthouse will be closed Thursday and Friday.

2010 Miner discount cards

The 2010 Miner discount cards are still available. Cost is $5 and will be sold at American Family Insurance, Shae Lynn, Walters and Grounds Insurance, The Watering Can, Linton Sporting Goods, Angell's and Regions Linton Shopping Center location. Redevelopment Commission

rescheduled

The Redevelopment Commission meeting previously scheduled for Dec. 21 has been canceled and rescheduled for Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Greene County Courthouse.

Community Learning Center classes

Time is running out to register for the Financial Accounting class offered this spring at the Greene County Community Learning Center. The class is the first class of the certificate program offered by Ivy Tech. The certificate in Payroll Accounting will be offered entirely at the learning center and consists of classes in Financial Accounting, Introduction to Microcomputer, Payroll Accounting, Spreadsheets, Business Law, and Quickbooks. Students will earn 18 hours of college credit, and complete a certificate that can be helpful in securing employment Crane subcontractors or rolled into a two year degree program. Holiday Tree, Wreath decorating contest

The Carnegie Heritage and Arts Center is sponsoring a Holiday Tree and/or Wreath decorating show. The finished products are currently on display. They are available for viewing until Jan. 6. Goose Pond calendars for sale

The 2010 Goose Pond photo calendars, priced at $10 each are now for sale. Calendars are available for purchase or pick-up at the following locations: Main Street Gifts, Linton; Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Barn, south of Linton on State Road 59; Heritage Cafe, North Main Street in Linton; and Casa del Muse Art Gallery and Studio in Bloomfield. Recycling Center update

The Greene County Recycling Center will not accept old paint as part of its Household Hazardous Waste program through April. County Solid Waste Management Supervisor Erek Wilson said shutdown during the winter months is necessary because the facility used to store the materials is not heated. All other hazardous household waste products will continue to be accepted. The center accepts motor oil, oil filters, anti-freeze, mercury containing items, fluorescent light tubes, other household chemicals, as well as old computer components. Alzheimer's Support Group Meeting

Clothes pantry

The Linton Church of Christ now has a clothing pantry in the church garage. The pantry allows people to trade good clothes that are no longer wanted or needed for other suitable clothes. The church has some clothes but is in need of donations, especially clothing for children. Contact the church at 847-1894 to make a donation or for more information. The church is located at 4th and C Streets NW in Linton. Call as needed for the clothes pantry.

9-1-1 addressing reminder

Greene County residents can officially start using their 9-1-1 addresses after they have received an official letter from the U.S Postal Service in Indianapolis.

Book sale in Worthington

The Worthington Public Library is having an on-going book sale. All books are 25 cents each or five for $1.

Greene County afghans for sale

Turning Point Education Center in Switz City is offering GED preparation classes. Wig bank

The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

Bloomfield Food pantry

The Refuge Assembly of God food pantry will be open every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. to assist those living in Bloomfield. To donate, please contact Trina at 384-8093 during the pantry's open hours.
