WRV girls lose at Loogootee

Loogootee proved to be unkind hosts to the White River Valley Lady Wolverines Saturday afternoon.

Despite a game-high of 27 points from senior Alicia Tally, the Lady Wolverines fell 72-38 to the host Lady Lions at Butcher Arena.

"It was a tough afternoon for us, we didn't compete very well," said WRV coach Joe Pigg after his team fell to 2-9 on the campaign. "We came here against a good team and just didn't compete."

Aside from the 27 point from Tally, the Lady Wolverines struggled to find any consistency offensively with only three others -- Lydia Miller, Maddy Dyer and Makayla Mowery -- collecting points on the afternoon.

Miller finished with four while Dyer added five and Mowery added two points for the Lady Wolverines who will face an even tougher foe when they travel to Montgomery for a game at Barr-Reeve Monday night.

"We've still got a lot to learn," Pigg said. "When you're 2-8 you've still got to play. I think when we got behind they just didn't play."

Pigg said Monday's trip to visit the class A No. 3 Lady Vikings will be another tough contest -- one of many that dot his team's schedule.

"There's a lot of good teams on our schedule," Pigg said. "And they've got to learn that just because a team is tough they can't give up. I think when we got behind today, we just gave up."

Loogootee led 18-5 at the first stop, 38-17 at the half and 55-26 after three quarters.

"It's a hard lesson," Pigg added. "But we'll learn."

Monday's game is slated for a 7 p.m. varsity-only start.
