Seasonal flu shots available

On Thursday, Monroe Primary Care of Bloomfield will schedule seasonal flu vaccinations for Greene County residents. The Bloomfield facility has received a limited supply of the vaccine and requests that the public call 384-3558 to schedule an appointment prior to visiting the office. The facility is located at 708 W. Main in Bloomfield. There will be no office visit fee, though the vaccine costs $40.

2010 Miner discount cards

The 2010 Miner discount cards are still available. Cost is $5 and will be sold at American Family Insurance, Shae Lynn, Walters and Grounds Insurance, The Watering Can, Linton Sporting Goods, Angell's and Regions Linton Shopping Center location. Lyons Senior Center breakfast

A biscuit, gravy, egg, sausage and pancake breakfast will be from 7 - 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Lyons Senior Center. Orange juice, coffee and milk will also be served. It's by donation only. A Christmas candy and cookie sale will also be held in conjunction with the breakfast. Raffle items (crane and low boy) will be given away. You need not be present to win. Community dinner/gospel concert

The Newberry Nazarene Church will have a dinner at 5 p.m. and concert featuring Water N2 Wine at 6 p.m. on Sunday. The public is welcome.

Christmas Eve service

The Lyons First Christian Church will host a candlelight service at 7 p.m. on Dec. 24. The church is located on E. Broad Street.

Redevelopment Commission

rescheduled

The Redevelopment Commission meeting previously scheduled for Dec. 21 has been canceled and rescheduled for Dec. 30 at 9 a.m. at the Greene County Courthouse.

Community Learning Center classes

Time is running out to register for the Financial Accounting class offered this spring at the Greene County Community Learning Center. The class is the first class of the certificate program offered by Ivy Tech. The certificate in Payroll Accounting will be offered entirely at the learning center and consists of classes in Financial Accounting, Introduction to Microcomputer, Payroll Accounting, Spreadsheets, Business Law, and Quickbooks. Students will earn 18 hours of college credit, and complete a certificate that can be helpful in securing employment Crane subcontractors or rolled into a two year degree program. Vigo County Extension Chorale

Vigo County Extension Chorale will present its Christmas program at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Briley Chapel Community Church -- which is located 1.5 miles east of 159 on State Road 246 East of Lewis. The church will serve a meal in the Church Fellowship Hall following the program.

Holiday Tree, Wreath

The Carnegie Heritage and Arts Center will sponsor a Holiday Tree and/or Wreath decorating show. The finished products are currently on display. They are available for viewing until Jan. 6. Road closed

County Road 1000 West (Lone Tree Road) will be closed between County Roads 300 North and 400 North beginning today. The closure will last two days. A new culvert and ditch work will be done at the time.

The Salvation Army is in need of bell ringers for the holiday season -- which runs now through Dec. 31. Bell ringers will be at Linton Save-A-Lot, Walmart and Bloomfield IGA. Work crew scheduling

The Wabash Valley Correctional Facility strives to be a good neighbor and takes pride in helping area communities and not--for-profit groups by providing supervised minimum-security offender work crews. Wabash Valley is now scheduling projects for 2010. Communities and not-for-profit agencies in Sullivan, Greene, Knox, Vigo, Daviess and Vanderburgh counties are asked to attend a brief meeting at the facility Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the firehouse, accessible from Old U.S. 41. The facility will finalize the labor lines 2010 schedule and discuss any concerns with participants. Trinity Lutheran Church

The Linton Community Food Pantry will be closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 26. The pantry will open again Dec. 29 and then be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 2. Regular schedule begins Jan. 5.

Santa will be at Orscheln in Linton from 2-4 p.m. Saturday. Photo opportunities will be available. Orscheln will also host a toy drive through Dec. 18. All toys will be donated to local charities.

Donation of toys needed

Donations of new, unwrapped toys are now being sought by Greene County Clothe-a-Child Project for distribution at Christmas to low income children. Collection boxes are located in Linton at Sears, Regions Bank, MainSource Bank and Dollar General Store; and in Bloomfield at Pamida, Dollar General Store, Monroe Primary Care (708 W. Main) and Bloomfield State Bank.

Recycling Center update

The Greene County Recycling Center will not accept old paint as part of its Household Hazardous Waste program through April. County Solid Waste Management Supervisor Erek Wilson said shutdown during the winter months is necessary because the facility used to store the materials is not heated. All other hazardous household waste products will continue to be accepted. The center accepts motor oil, oil filters, anti-freeze, mercury containing items, fluorescent light tubes, other household chemicals, as well as old computer components. The Linton Church of Christ is setting up a clothing pantry in the church garage. The pantry will allow people to trade good clothes that are no longer wanted or needed for other suitable clothes. The church has some clothes but is in need of donations, especially clothing for children. The church will also give away school supplies.
