Northeast School Board

The Northeast Sullivan School Board will meet in executive session at 6:30 p.m. and in regular session at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at the administrative building in Hymera.

Greene County General

Hospital Auxiliary

Greene County General Hospital Auxiliary will host a chocolate candy experience sale from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Dec. 17 in the hospital lobby. Candy will be sold in boxes, bags or individually. The public is welcome. You can also register to win a gift basket.

Jasonville Head Start fundraiser

A fundraiser for the Jasonville Head Start will be at the West Main Street bar in Jasonville today. Cost is $3 a person and $5 a couple. DJ, raffle tickets and prizes will be given away. Proceeds go to Christmas presents for the Jasonville Head Start children. If you would like to donate or attend call 665-9521 or 798-3286.

Christmas Cantata

Pleasantville United Methodist Church choir will present a "Christmas Cantata" at 7 p.m. on Dec. 19. The public is welcome.

Redevelopment Commission rescheduled

The Redevelopment Commission meeting previously scheduled for Dec. 21 has been canceled and rescheduled for Dec. 30 at 9 a.m. at the Greene County Courthouse.

Linton-Stockton School Board

The Linton-Stockton School Board of Trustees will meet in executive session at 6 p.m. Monday at the administration office.

Shakamak's celebration of Christmas

The members of Shakamak Jr./Sr. High School music department invite all to their 2009 celebration of Christmas at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the high school cafetorium. The jr./sr. high school concert choir, concert band and Music in Motion Show Choir will perform. The Shakamak Jr./Sr. High Choir Boosters will also sponsor the annual Christmas goodies walk during intermissions. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

Altered book class

Casa del Muse Art Gallery and Studio will host an Altered Book class at the Bloomfield gallery on Sunday from 3-6 p.m.. An Altered Book is any book, old or new, that has been recycled by creative means into a work of art. The books can be rebound, painted, cut, burned, folded, added to, collaged in, gold-leafed, rubber stamped, drilled or otherwise adorned. Casa del Muse is located at 32 E. Main St., Bloomfield. Vigo County Extension Chorale

Vigo County Extension Chorale will present its Christmas program at 4 p.m. on Dec. 20 at the Briley Chapel Community Church -- which is located 1.5 miles east of 159 on State Road 246 East of Lewis. The church will serve a meal in the Church Fellowship Hall following the program.

Holiday Tree, Wreath decorating contest

The Carnegie Heritage and Arts Center will sponsor a Holiday Tree and/or Wreath decorating show. The finished products will be on display to the public opening Dec. 12 from 5-10 p.m., and continue to be shown until Jan. 6. Visitors may vote for their popular choice. Those who wish to may enter their tree or wreath in a silent auction starting opening day on Dec. 12 and ending on Dec. 19. Road closed

County Road 1000 West (Lone Tree Road) will be closed between County Roads 300 North and 400 North beginning Dec. 15. The closure will last two days. A new culvert and ditch work will be done at the time.

Flea market

The Lyons Senior Center will host a flea market with 12 booths from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. today. All proceeds will go to the center for a new roof. A sausage biscuit and gravy breakfast as well as a lunch with hot dogs, sloppy joes, coney dogs, chips and drinks will also be served.

Pleasant Grove Farm Christmas musical

The regular show runs from Dec. 12-27 with Christmas music, then Dec. 28-Jan.1 with patriotic music from 6-10 p.m. The farm is three miles south of Linton on County Road 300 South near County Road 1100 West. Greene County Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is in need of bell ringers for the holiday season -- which runs now through Dec. 31. Bell ringers will be at Linton Save-A-Lot, Walmart and Bloomfield IGA. Work crew scheduling

The Wabash Valley Correctional Facility strives to be a good neighbor and takes pride in helping area communities and not--for-profit groups by providing supervised minimum-security offender work crews. Wabash Valley is now scheduling projects for 2010. Communities and not-for-profit agencies in Sullivan, Greene, Knox, Vigo, Daviess and Vanderburgh counties are asked to attend a brief meeting at the facility Dec. 16 at 9:30 a.m. at the firehouse, accessible from Old U.S. 41. The facility will finalize the labor lines 2010 schedule and discuss any concerns with participants. Participants are being requested to confirm attendance by sending an e-mail to Public Information Officer Rich Larsen, rlarsen@idoc.in.gov or by calling (812) 398-5050, ext., 4110 no later than Thursday.

Worthington Assembly of God

"It's the most wonderful time of the year" Christmas program will be performed at 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Worthington Assembly of God. There will be a chorus, drama and kids' Christmas program with refreshments to follow in the fellowship hall.

Trinity Lutheran Church

Trinity Lutheran Church will be observing the Advent season with services at 7 p.m. on Dec. 16, and 23. The community is invited to join the Holden Evening Vespers services -- which are candlelight services. Trinity is at 1759 E.State Road 54. For more information, call 847-7372.

Linton Community Food Pantry holiday schedule

The Linton Community Food Pantry will be closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 26. The pantry will open again Dec. 29 and then be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 2. Regular schedule begins Jan. 5.

Tri-Kappa nuts for sale

Nativity at Lebanon Baptist

Lebanon Baptist Church in Midland will host a live drive-through Nativity Scene called "Follow the Star" on Dec. 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. The first 50 cars will receive a Christmas present from Lebanon Baptist Church.

Sheriff's Merit Board

The Greene County Sheriff's Merit Board will meet at 7 p.m. on Dec. 14 in the conference room at the Greene County Jail. The jail is located at 204 County Road 70 East, at the edge of Bloomfield.

Santa and toy drive at Orscheln

Santa will be at Orscheln in Linton from 2-4 p.m. on Dec. 19. Photo opportunities will be available. Orscheln will also host a toy drive through Dec. 18. All toys will be donated to local charities.

Memory Makers Quilt Guild Christmas party

The Memory Makers Quilt Guild of Greene County will host its annual Christmas party at 6 p.m. on Dec. 17 at the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library located at 125 S. Franklin St. in Bloomfield.

Goose Pond calendars for sale

The 2010 Goose Pond photo calendars, priced at $10 each are now for sale. Calendars are available for purchase or pick-up at the following locations: Main Street Gifts, Linton; Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Barn, south of Linton on State Road 59; Heritage Cafe, North Main Street in Linton; and Casa del Muse Art Gallery and Studio in Bloomfield. Donation of toys needed

Donations of new, unwrapped toys are now being sought by Greene County Clothe-a-Child Project for distribution at Christmas to low income children. Collection boxes are located in Linton at Sears, Regions Bank, MainSource Bank and Dollar General Store; and in Bloomfield at Pamida, Dollar General Store, Monroe Primary Care (708 W. Main) and Bloomfield State Bank.

Prom dress sale

Recycling Center update

The Greene County Recycling Center will not accept old paint as part of its Household Hazardous Waste program through April. County Solid Waste Management Supervisor Erek Wilson said shutdown during the winter months is necessary because the facility used to store the materials is not heated. All other hazardous household waste products will continue to be accepted. The center accepts motor oil, oil filters, anti-freeze, mercury containing items, fluorescent light tubes, other household chemicals, as well as old computer components. Alzheimer's Support Group Meeting

The Mineral Christian Men's Group meets at 8 a.m. every third Saturday of the month at the Mineral Community Building.

Clothes pantry

The Linton Church of Christ is setting up a clothing pantry in the church garage. The pantry will allow people to trade good clothes that are no longer wanted or needed for other suitable clothes. The church has some clothes but is in need of donations, especially clothing for children. The church will also give away school supplies. Contact the church at 847-1894 to make a donation or for more information. The church is located at 4th and C Streets NW in Linton. Clothing pantry hours are 3-6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays or when needed.

9-1-1 addressing reminder

Greene County residents can officially start using their 9-1-1 addresses after they have received an official letter from the U.S Postal Service in Indianapolis.

Book sale in Worthington

The Worthington Public Library is having an on-going book sale. All books are 25 cents each or five for $1.

The Pleasantville United Methodist Church food pantry is now open on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 10:30 a.m. - noon.

GED preparation classes

Turning Point Education Center in Switz City is offering GED preparation classes. Wig bank

The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

Bloomfield Food pantry

The Refuge Assembly of God food pantry will be open every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. to assist those living in Bloomfield. To donate, please contact Trina at 384-8093 during the pantry's open hours.
