He's accused of attempting to kick in the door of a rural Bloomfield man's house on Oct. 29, while holding a gun, then attempting to light the seat of the man's truck on fire.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Rentschler then fled the scene but as he was leaving, he allegedly ran into a truck that was parked in the yard, then ran into the man's porch, breaking two support columns and cracking the roof.
Greene County Sheriff's Deputy Christopher McDonald was dispatched at 12:14 a.m. to the residence of Christopher P. Minks on R.R. 4, Bloomfield, on the report of a possible burglary in progress.
Bloomfield Deputy Marshal Jordan Hasler also responded to assist on the scene.
The suspect, Rentschler, reportedly left in an older-model green Ford truck before the officers arrived.
According to the affidavit written by McDonald, Minks said he was not sure who the man was or why he was there but he had attempted to enter his home.
The deputy also spoke to the suspect's sister, Michelle Rentschler, who was on the scene and said when she came to the residence, she saw her brother at the front door with a shotgun, kicking the door. She said he got through the door but it was barricaded with a chair.
The affidavit says she got him away from the door and also got hold of the shotgun but Rentschler went to his truck, grabbed a rifle and returned to the door kicking and yelling for Minks to come outside.
According to the affidavit, she got hold of both long guns and hid them.
Rentschler then allegedly opened the door to Minks's truck and tried to ignite the seat with a lighter, got into his own truck, ran into another one of Minks's vehicles then backed his truck into the porch.
McDonald obtained an estimate for damages and reported a total of $3,500 damage to the porch and $831.50 to Minks's truck.
Preliminary charges of residential entry, a class D felony, and criminal mischief, another class D felony, have been filed against Rentschler in Greene Circuit Court.
