Bloomfield NARFE to meet

Bloomfield Chapter 847 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association will meet Dec. 8 at Stoll's Country Inn in Linton at 11:30 a.m.

Linton Community Food Pantry holiday schedule

The Linton Community Food Pantry will be closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 26. The pantry will open again Dec. 29 and then be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 2. Regular schedule begins Jan. 5.

Shakamak School Board

The MSD of Shakamak Board of Trustees will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the high school media center and at 6 p.m. in executive session in the central office conference room.

Tri-Kappa nuts for sale

Linton's Tri Kappa Chapter has pecans and specialty nuts for sale. It is a new crop of pecans. If you are interested please contact Rhea Vest (847-8271) or Laurelann Bredeweg (847-9541) or any Tri Kappa member.

Nativity at Lebanon Baptist

Lebanon Baptist Church in Midland will host a live drive-through Nativity Scene called "Follow the Star" on Dec. 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. The first 50 cars will receive a Christmas present from Lebanon Baptist Church.

Jasonville Senior Center Christmas party

Seniors 60 and older who live in the Shakamak area are invited to the Jasonville Senior Center Christmas/birthday party Dec. 10. The Masters Bouquet will present musical entertainment at 11 a.m. with dinner being served at noon. The center will provide meat, mashed potatoes, noodles and beverages. Those attending should bring a vegetable dish, salad or dessert item. Bingo is slated for the afternoon. For more information call 665-9882. The center is located at 145 S. Lawton St.

Greene County Veterans Council

The Greene County Veterans Council will meet at 7 p.m. on Dec. 8 at American Legion Post 22 in Linton.

Superintendents' Governing Board

The Superintendents' Governing Board of Orange, Lawrence, Martin and Greene joint services will meet in executive session at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 9 in the joint service conference room at the Bedford location. An open session will follow at 10 a.m.

Sheriff's Merit Board

The Greene County Sheriff's Merit Board will meet at 7 p.m. on Dec. 14 in the conference room at the Greene County Jail. The jail is located at 204 County Road 70 East, at the edge of Bloomfield.

Santa and toy drive at Orscheln

Santa will be at Orscheln in Linton from 2-4 p.m. on Dec. 19. Photo opportunities will be available. Orscheln will also host a toy drive through Dec. 18. All toys will be donated to local charities.

Memory Makers Quilt Guild Christmas party

The Memory Makers Quilt Guild of Greene County will host its annual Christmas party at 6 p.m. on Dec. 17 at the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library located at 125 S. Franklin St. in Bloomfield.

Goose Pond calendars for sale

The 2010 Goose Pond photo calendars, priced at $10 each are now for sale. Calendars are available for purchase or pick-up at the following locations: Main Street Gifts, Linton; Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Barn, south of Linton on State Road 59; Heritage Cafe, North Main Street in Linton; and Casa del Muse Art Gallery and Studio in Bloomfield. The photo calendars can be shipped for an additional $2.50 fee. Orders can be placed by mail at Friends of Goose Pond, P.O. Box 34, Solsberry, Ind., 47459. Greene-Sullivan Special Ed meeting

The meeting of the executive board of the Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative will meet in executive session Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. with the regular meeting to follow at 1 p.m. in the Conference Room at the Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative, 77 A St., NE, Linton.

Christmas luncheon planned

The Mineral Ladies Aid Christmas luncheon will be Dec. 10. There will be no gift exchange. All members are asked to bring small gifts for local nursing home residents.

Children's nativity play

The Lyons First Christian Church will present a children's nativity play at 6 p.m. on Sunday. The church is located next to the medical clinic on East Broad Street.

Local artist to present program

Local artist Wyatt LeGrand will present a program on preserving art in the community and demonstrate his painting technique at the main branch of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library from 6-8 p.m. on Dec. 7. The public is invited. For more information, call the library at 384-4125.

Scotland Cemetery

The Scotland Cemetery board will meet at 7 p.m. on Dec. 14 at the Scotland Fire Station.

Greene County Singles

The Greene County Singles will host a dance and dinner today at the Greene County Extension Building at Switz City. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m., and dance from 7- 10 p.m. Admission is $5 with a food item, $6 with a 2 liter soda or $7 empty-handed. For more information call 825-4032.

Power outage

A city-wide power outage in Linton is scheduled for Sunday. The outage is scheduled from midnight to 8 a.m. and will allow Duke Energy to install new equipment as well as conduct routine maintenance.

Revival at Bloomfield church

The Assembly of Christ Church in Bloomfield will host a revival at 7:30 p.m. today with Brother Don English to speak. The church is located at the corner of John and South Streets.

Blood drive in Linton

Linton Masonic Lodge will host a Red Cross blood drive from 2-7 p.m. on Dec. 11. Call Rick Brinson at 847-7213 to make an appointment.

GOP Women's Club to meet

The Greene County Republican Women's Club is scheduled to meet at the Main Street Cafe in Worthington at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 8. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Christmas in Village

Christmas in the Village will be conducted from 1-6:30 p.m. today at Scotland. Vendors, fun, food and crafts at the Scotland Hotel and fire station. Live entertainment will be at the Scotland Chapel every hour on the hour from 1-5 p.m. Santa will be at the barber shop from 2-5 p.m. A lighted parade will be on Main Street at 6 p.m. with the lighting of the memory tree in Cady Grove following the parade. The Scotland Full Gospel Church will also serve soup and sandwiches in its fellowship hall during the event.

Painting workshop

A painting workshop will be from 1-5 p.m. today at the Carnegie Heritage and Arts Center of Greene County. Cost is $30 per student. Wyatt LeGrand will teach the workshop. For more information call 847-0165 or 384-6505.

Spring registration dates

Registration for spring classes at the Greene County Community Learning Center will be Dec. 8, and 15 or by appointment. Classes will begin Jan. 11 and classes from Vincennes University include: English Comp II, American History II, Speech, Principles of Sociology, Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra and Fitness Walking. Ivy Tech classes include: Financial Accounting, Intro to Microcomputers, Spreadsheets, and Microsoft Outlook. All classes will meet in the evenings and are at White River Valley High School. Visit the Linton Rotary Mini-Park, see Santa

Santa's workshop will open at the Linton Rotary Park on Dec. 12 from 1-4 p.m. and Dec. 19 from 1-4 p.m. Santa's workshop will be closed Dec. 5. Santa and his helpers will be coming through by train that day compliments of the Indiana Rail Road. The train will be at the Indiana Rail Road tracks on South Main Street from 1:30-3 p.m.

Greene County Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is in need of bell ringers for the holiday season -- which runs now through Dec. 31. Bell ringers will be at Linton Save-A-Lot, Walmart and Bloomfield IGA. Dates and times may vary. To volunteer call 847-2512.

Linton Tri Kappa selling cheese balls

Linton Tri Kappa has cheese balls available. Cheese balls with nuts are $6.50 and cheese balls plain are $6. Contact Beth Gillan at 847-2010 or any Tri Kappa member.

Donation of toys needed

Donations of new, unwrapped toys are now being sought by Greene County Clothe-a-Child Project for distribution at Christmas to low income children. Collection boxes are located in Linton at Sears, Regions Bank, MainSource Bank and Dollar General Store; and in Bloomfield at Pamida, Dollar General Store, Monroe Primary Care (708 W. Main) and Bloomfield State Bank.

Parents Day Out

Trinity Lutheran Church will host a 'Parents Day Out' today from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Parents can get a jump on their Christmas shopping and enjoy a Saturday of Christmas shopping while church volunteers take care of your 2 to 14 year old. Call Trinity Lutheran Church at 847-7372 to reserve a place. Lunch and snacks will be served. Child's information sheet must be completed in order to use the child care service.

Bloomfield leaf pick-up

Leaf pick-up in Bloomfield is now under way. The street department is working rotations of north and south streets and east and west streets. Rake leaves to the curb, not in the street.

More money for tires

The Greene County Recycling Center has received an additional $500 from the Greene County Health Department to continue its Tire Amnesty Program. GCRC Director Erek Wilson said his facility can take up to 400 more tires. For more information, call 659-3788.

Prom dress sale

A Save the Date Prom Dress Sale will be Jan. 9 at the Greene County 4-H Fair Grounds. Anyone who has a prom dress to sell or wants to buy a dress is welcome. For more information contact Phoebe Fuller at 384-4610 or Amy Poe at 384-9059.

Boosters fall trash bag sale

Recycling Center update

The Greene County Recycling Center will not accept old paint as part of its Household Hazardous Waste program through April. County Solid Waste Management Supervisor Erek Wilson said shutdown during the winter months is necessary because the facility used to store the materials is not heated. All other hazardous household waste products will continue to be accepted. The center accepts motor oil, oil filters, anti-freeze, mercury containing items, fluorescent light tubes, other household chemicals, as well as old computer components. Alzheimer's Support Group Meeting

The Cardinal Discount Cards are now available for $5 each. The cards may be purchased at the Bloomfield Apple Festival and at upcoming sporting events. Proceeds will support the Bloomfield High School 2010 post prom.

The Mineral Christian Men's Group meets at 8 a.m. every third Saturday of the month at the Mineral Community Building.

Clothes pantry

The Linton Church of Christ is setting up a clothing pantry in the church garage. The pantry will allow people to trade good clothes that are no longer wanted or needed for other suitable clothes. The church has some clothes but is in need of donations, especially clothing for children. The church will also give away school supplies. Contact the church at 847-1894 to make a donation or for more information. The church is located at 4th and C Streets NW in Linton. Clothing pantry hours are 3-6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays or when needed.

9-1-1 addressing reminder

Greene County residents can officially start using their 9-1-1 addresses after they have received an official letter from the U.S Postal Service in Indianapolis.

Book sale in Worthington

The Worthington Public Library is having an on-going book sale. All books are 25 cents each or five for $1.

Turning Point Education Center in Switz City is offering GED preparation classes. Bloomfield Food pantry
