Two injured in holiday fire near Bloomfield

Thursday, November 26, 2009
Two Bloomfield residents were injured while escaping a house fire that occurred on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday).

Kevin Deckard, 43, and Linny Deckard, 36, suffered smoke inhalation and burns to the back, legs and feet in an afternoon fire that gutted a rental home at 338 N. Cold Springs Road, explained Bloomfield Fire Chief Skyler Pittman.

"Both had gotten out on their own and were sitting in the driveway in a car. Both told me they were burned," he said.

The male and female were transported to the Greene County General Hospital by the Greene County Ambulance Service.

Firefighters arrived on scene at 3:37 p.m. and worked the scene for three hours.

"First arriving units reported heavy smoke coming from the doors and windows of the home," Pittman explained. "Mutual aid was quickly requested from Richland-Taylor Fire Department for tanker support in reference to a lack of nearby hydrants in the area."

An exact cause of the fire is still being investigated, however it is believed that the fire started in the living room of the home. The building suffered heavy smoke, heat and water damage -- gutting the living room as well as the kitchen area.

The rental home is owned by Danny Gadberry, of Bloomfield.

I thought everyone deserves prayers....so what kind of a statement is that ?

hmmmm...some people are coldhearted. I wonder why such a statement would be made. I pray for others every day---even if it is for them to see the light. Saying a prayer for all involved!

That comment was uncalled for. Everytime I read about someone losing their house to a fire makes me thankful they got out and are not injured very badly. I had a very good friend die in a fire in January of 1999 and my Uncle died in a house fire in August of 1999. If someone like you would have made a comment like that about them You would have gotten a reality check. It could have been your home and you could have been the one burnded. Think before you speak.

Really, AMyers8289, What comment was uncalled for? The only comment I seen that was uncalled for was by you!

Everyone deserves prayers, no matter what the situation is!

MinerChic-

How was my comment uncalled for? By the way I was talking about am1932's comment. Everyone does deserve prayer no matter who they are or what they do. And the meaning for my comment was that that the person who made the comment that they didn't deserve prayer is that it could have happened to them just the same as it did these two people. And I am sure they probably would want people to pray for them if the tables where turned. That was the point I was trying to make.

opps, AMyers, I'm sorry got the names backwards. I'm really sorry!! I was seeing am1932's comment from earlier and got your guys names confused.

Again I'm really sorry!

How did this go from condolences and prayers for a family in great need to letting some jerk dominate the forum. Please don't give that sad little person your attention, he/she is just trying to deflect us from what is really important.
