Jason L. Caldwell, 31, Solsberry, was taken into custody by Greene County Sheriff's Det. George Dallaire on Thursday and booked into the Greene County Jail.
His bond was set at $4,000 and after posting bond, he was released on Friday.
Caldwell was convicted of the crime of sexual battery in Morgan County in 1997. He was sentenced and served his time but has a lifetime requirement to register with the Indiana Sheriff's Sex and Violent Offender Registry.
According to the online registry Web site, Caldwell's last release from incarceration was in September 2008.
At some point in 2008, he was previously registered in Greene County, but this year, on Oct. 19, he registered in Morgan County.
A probable cause affidavit written by Det. Dallaire states Caldwell contacted the Morgan County registrar on Nov. 9 and told them he was moving to Greene County.
The Morgan County registrar then advised Denise Andrew, the Greene County registrar, that Caldwell was moving.
Caldwell did not register in Greene County and Andrew contacted the detective on Nov. 18.
By law, Caldwell had seven days to register in the new county following the move.
The detective located Caldwell who reportedly told Dallaire he was living at R.R. 1, Box 34A, Solsberry, at the residence of a family member, and that he moved there around Oct. 21 but did not have a driver's license or a vehicle.
According to the affidavit, Caldwell also said he was working in Monroe County but was not registered there either.
The affidavit states when Caldwell was asked why he did not register with Greene County as required, "he said he forgot the rules."
Caldwell was arraigned in Greene Superior Court on Monday for the crime of failure to register as a sex offender, a class D felony.
