Sentencing for a 41-year-old Bloomington man, who formerly lived in Bloomfield, has been rescheduled in Monroe Circuit Court Division II for Dec. 18 in connection with allegations that he abducted, confined and sexually assaulted a woman with a rifle last August.
The woman initially sought treatment for her injuries at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.
Dewayne Adamson has entered a guilty plea -- as part of a negotiated plea agreement with the Monroe County Prosecutor's office -- to a count of illegal possession of a firearm and being a habitual criminal offender.
Six criminal deviate conduct charges as well as carjacking, criminal confinement and an attempted murder charge were dismissed as part of the plea deal.
Circuit Judge Kenneth Todd will conduct the 2:30 p.m. hearing. The sentencing was originally scheduled for Thursday, but was continued, according to a court official.
The victim alleged that Adamson and another Bloomington man, Jeffe Sims II, 33, had abducted, raped and held her for several days.
The investigation began during the early morning hours of Aug. 6, 2008 when a female patient at Greene County General Hospital said the two men had abducted and assaulted her.
Initially, the case was investigated by the Greene County Sheriff's Department after the woman stated she had been abducted days earlier and then raped in Greene County.
However, after the preliminary interviews with the victim it was determined that the crimes actually occurred in Monroe County, according to Monroe County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Scott Mellinger.
Adamson and Sims were both arrested later that day at Sims' mobile home by Monroe County Sheriff's Department deputies and members of the Bloomington Police Department's Critical Incident Response Team.
According to police reports, a woman Adamson had been dating reported he forced her into her car at gunpoint, then forced her to drive to a remote area, where he tied her up and put her in the trunk. She reported being sexually assaulted by him, twice with the rifle.
After the attacks, Adamson is alleged to have driven the victim to Lawrence Hollow Estates in Greene County, where she had parked her car, and then he released her, according to court records.
Sims is alleged to have witnessed the criminal activity -- without rendering any aid -- and drove the victim's car to the Lawrence Hollow area, according to court records.
The female victim told police that she had lived with Adamson briefly in Bloomfield during their relationship and she moved out after an argument.
Brad Swain, a detective with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, told the Greene County Daily World the attack was similar to one a decade ago that Adamson served time in prison for.
In 1999, a former girlfriend said Adamson held her against her will, handcuffed and gagged her and forced her to commit sex acts as he threatened her with a stun gun.
Adamson pleaded guilty to criminal confinement in that case. More serious charges -- rape, two counts of criminal deviate conduct and being a habitual criminal -- were dismissed through a plea agreement.
When it was time for him to be sentenced, he recanted his guilty plea.
But the judge in the case said it was too late, and sentenced him in 2001 to 12 years in jail, of which he served half. Adamson was released from prison Nov. 30, 2007.
The latest charges came nine months after his release from prison.
