Santa Train coming to Greene County on Dec. 5

Friday, November 20, 2009
Santa Claus will make a special appearance to the area as he rolls into Greene County by train Dec. 5.

Look for the 20th annual Indiana Rail Road Santa Train to make stops throughout the county during the day.

"The Santa Train is our most treasured tradition," said Thomas Hoback, president and CEO of the Indiana Rail Road Company. "It's an occasion where we can meet people who live in the communities along our railroad and share a special holiday gift with them. And when we see all the young faces light up as Santa rolls into town, it's a real treat for all of us, too."

The traditional event gives children and adults a sneak peak aboard a passenger train and a chance to visit St. Nick.

"Families are invited to come aboard the decorated train, meet with Santa and Mrs. Claus and spend some time frolicking with a few of their friends from the North Pole," explained a press release from the Indiana Rail Road.

In the past, the holiday fun has brought out between 150-400 folks per local stop.

The Santa Train originated in 1989 as a volunteer project of the Indiana Rail Road's employees.

Indiana Rail Road Company employees and their families stage the event, which, for many small-town children is the only opportunity to visit Santa in person, notes the press release.

Local stops will begin Dec. 5 at Solsberry from 8:30 - 10 a.m.; Bloomfield from 11 a.m. - noon; Linton from 1:30 - 3 p.m.; Dugger from 4 - 5 p.m.; and Jasonville from 6 - 7 p.m.
