It was the second straight loss to open the season for Bloomfield, who hosts North Knox in their home opener Saturday at Glover Gym.
"We just had some diversity in the second half that we couldn't overcome," Hitchcock said. "But I think we're still going to have a great season."
After jumping to a 17-14 lead after one quarter, the Lady Cardinals were unable to overcome a strong second quarter by the Lady Mustangs and ended the first 16 minutes knotted at 27-all.
Then things went sour for Bloomfield as they were outscored 31-22 in the second half. That inlcuded a 14-0 run to close out the third quarter and counter a 39-35 Lady Cardinal lead early in the frame.
Senior Elyse Weddle led the Bloomfield offense with 15 points. She was joined in double-figures by Brittney Combs with 11.
Edgewood countered with 24 points from Chelsea Miller.
Saturday's contest against the Lady Warriors is set for a 6 p.m. start.
Edgewood also won the junior varsity contest 32-23.
