Kinnett Auto Sales to celebrate new facility

Wednesday, November 18, 2009
Kinnett Auto Sales in Linton is now settled into a new home after losing its building to a fire in January.

Cathy Baker, general manager at the business, provided the details.

"We've been in here two or three weeks now. There's been a few minor things (to finish) ... but now everything is complete," Baker explained. "It's wonderful and a lot better. Everything is convenient."

The new building is on State Road 54 West -- where the original Kinnett Auto Sales was located.

"The new facility is 60 X 100. It has a large showroom with three offices. The service department has the capability of serving up to 10 vehicles," Baker said in a press release. "We are pleased to have hired all local contractors to construct our new facility."

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 11 a.m. on Nov. 30.

"We appreciate the patronage from our loyal friends and customers who have made our success possible," Baker said.

After the fire, the car sales business relocated to the former Bender Lumber building -- which is just west of the Kinnett location on State Road 54 West.

The construction of the building started in June.

At first, it was unclear if a new building would be constructed.

"We just weren't sure if we were going to rebuild a building back there. We had thought about purchasing Bender's (building)," Baker explained in a past interview. "It took quite a while to get settled up with insurance."

But after weighing the options it was decided to move forward with construction.

Kinnett Auto Sales is a family-owned and operated business.

Larry Kinnett, current owner, started the business 45 years ago. Baker, general manager, has worked at Kinnett Auto Sales for 32 years. Baker is Kinnett's daughter.
