Lady Wolverines fall at home

West Vigo outscored host White River Valley 37-27 in the second half to come away with a 52-48 victory in a high school girls basketball game Tuesday night at Switz City.

The Lady Wolverines slipped to 0-3 with the loss.

"We are getting better, especially for the inexperience that we have," said WRV coach Joe Pigg. "That is just the way it is going to be all year.

"I think we are going to continue to improve. That is our goal. I am real happy with the progress we are making."

Alicia Tally poured in a game-high 24 points to pace WRV, including two 3-pointers and a 12-for-14 performance at the foul line.

Maddy Dyer added 20 points for the Lady Wolverines. McKaylea Mowery scored the other four WRV points.

"Alicia played really well," said Pigg. "Maddy listened to what we had talked about in practice and did the things I wanted her to do.

"That is a big part of the reason that she scored like she did tonight."

Pigg said they had trouble with West Vigo's press, which did not let up all night.

"We are learning that it is a team game," he said. "All the little things add up at the end.

"The girls have worked hard and I am pleased. We had a really good effort again."

WRV will host Shakamak at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in another varsity-only contest.

All of WRV's home games will start at 6:30 p.m.
