No newspaper on Veteran's Day

Because there is no U.S. Postal Service delivery on Veteran's Day, the Greene County Daily World will not publish on Wednesday. However, the office will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Normal publication will resume on Thursday.

Linton Lodge 560 to meet

Linton Lodge 560 will have degree work on Thursday in the EA degree. Dinner will be at 6:15 p.m. and Lodge will be at 7 p.m.

Festival of Trees

Shawnee Theatre of Greene County's sixth annual Festival of Trees, at the Greene County 4-H Fairgrounds in Switz City, is winter wonderland with fabulous decorations, beautifully decorated Christmas trees, and gifts. There is a special area for the children to enjoy, and visits from Santa Claus on Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m. Refreshments will be available as well as homemade candies provided by the Greene County Homemakers Clubs. The event is open from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Nov. 20-21 and 27-28 and Nov. 22 and 29 from 1-4 p.m. These trees can be purchased through a silent auction which ends Nov. 29 at 3 p.m. when the bidding closes.

Linton Tri Kappa selling cheese balls

Linton Tri Kappa has cheese balls available. Cheese balls with nuts are $6.50 and cheese balls plain are $6. Contact Beth Gillan at 847-2010 or any Tri Kappa member.

Memory Makers Quilt Guild to meet

The Greene County Memory Makers Quilt Guild will host its regular meeting Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the community room of the Bloomfield Public Library. Rhonda Burch is in charge of the program. All quilters are welcome.

Donation of toys needed

Donations of new, unwrapped toys are now being sought by Greene County Clothe-a-Child Project for distribution at Christmas to low income children. Collection boxes are located in Linton at Sears, Regions Bank, MainSource Bank and Dollar General Store; and in Bloomfield at Pamida, Dollar General Store, Monroe Primary Care (708 W. Main) and Bloomfield State Bank.

Crochet workshop

The Linton Public Library will have a Beginning Crocheting Workshop Tuesday from 6 -- 8 p.m. This is for beginners who wish to learn how to start a project. Participants are asked to bring a size G crochet hook and one ball of cotton yarn. There will be another meeting on Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon for those who would like more advanced instructions and possibly form a group to meet regularly to share this hobby.

'Treasurers for our Troops'

The Linton Public Library will have a "Treasures for our Troops" program for school aged children Wednesday from 3:30--4:30 p.m. to write letters of support, create artwork and assemble care packages containing these items for our deployed troops. Anyone wishing to bring additional items may pick up a list of suggested items from the circulation desk before Wednesday.

Gospel concert

Blair Carmen and the Belleview Boys will be in concert at 4 p.m. on Nov. 15 at the South Union Christian Church in Bloomington.

Parents Day Out

Trinity Lutheran Church will host a Parents Day Out on Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Parents can get a jump on their Christmas shopping and enjoy a Saturday of Christmas shopping while church volunteers take care of your 2 to 14 year old. Call Trinity Lutheran Church at 847-7372 to reserve a place. Lunch and snacks will be served. Child's information sheet must be completed in order to use the child care service.

Civitan basket bingo

Civitan basket bingo will be Nov. 16 at the Roy Clark Community Building in Linton. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. Advance tickets are available at Linton Sporting Goods or by calling 847-9236, 847-9936 or 648-2129. Food will be available as well as a raffle and an advance ticket drawing.

Book sale at Bloomfield Library

The Friends of the Library continuing book sale will be from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Thursday in the lower lobby of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library, located at 125 S. Franklin St. in Bloomfield. A large selection of adult and children's books are available with paperbacks for 25 cents and hardbacks for 50 cents.

WRV Veteran's Day program

White River Valley High School will host a Veteran's Day program at 9 a.m. on Wednesday with State Rep. Sandy Blanton to speak. The program will honor Sonny Hinchman, a fallen soldier of Worthington.

Spaghetti dinner

Mansions in Heaven Church will have a spaghetti dinner from 5-7 p.m. on Nov. 20. Menu includes spaghetti, bread, salad, drink and dessert. A free-will offering will be taken for the meal. There will also be a bake sale and silent auction during the event. All proceeds go to the Family Life Center's children's holiday clothing fund. The church is located at the corner of Franklin and Mechanic Streets in Bloomfield.

Bloomfield leaf pick-up

Leaf pick-up in Bloomfield is now under way. The street department is working rotations of north and south streets and east and west streets. Rake leaves to the curb, not in the street.

Hospital Auxiliary book sale

Greene County General Hospital Auxiliary will host a book sale from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday in the hospital lobby.

Greene County Veterans Council program

The Greene County Veterans Council will meet at 11 a.m. on Wednesday on the courthouse lawn for a Veteran's Day service with 1st Sgt. Richard Bladen to speak. In case of inclement weather the service will be at the American Legion Post 196 in Bloomfield.

Greene-Sullivan Special Ed Cooperative

The meeting of the Executive Board of the Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative will meet in executive session Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. with the regular meeting to follow at 10:30 a.m. in the conference room at the Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative, 77 A St., N.E., Linton.

Prairie College School reunion

Dugger Lodge

Bloomfield NARFE to meet

Bloomfield Chapter 847 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) will meet Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Stoll's Country Inn in Linton. All members are encouraged to attend to vote on the NARFE Membership Single Dues Change Referendum and annual election of chapter officers. Questions should be directed to President Loren Wilson at 847-7409 prior to meeting time and date.

Basket bingo set for Nov. 21

Longaberger Bingo is scheduled for Nov. 21 at the Lyons Community Building on State Road 67 South in Lyons. Doors open and food is served at 5 p.m. and bingo starts at 6 p.m.. Tickets are $10. Tickets available at the door or advance tickets available by calling 384-9059 or 384-2710.

Sheriff's Merit Board

The Greene County Sheriff's Merit Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the conference room at the Greene County Jail. The jail is located at 204 County Road 70 East, at the edge of Bloomfield.

Callane to speak in Linton

Communities C.A.N.- Project SUCCESS will host a Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner. Come hear Coach Jim Callane -- former Linton-Stockton High School basketball coach -- speak about motivating our youth. There will be door prizes and free child care. It will be Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Linton Stockton High School auditoria. The first 100 registrants receive a free chicken dinner. Leaf pick-up for city of Linton

The city of Linton will hold its leaf pick-up in November. Leaves will be picked up the day after your scheduled trash day. Rake leaves to the curb and no sticks please. To have leaves picked up call the street department at 847-4257.

Turkey supper

Pleasantville United Methodist Church will hold its annual turkey supper Saturday at 3 p.m. Menu includes turkey, trimmings, drink and desert. Cost is $8 for those 12 years and older and $4 for those 4 - 11 years of age.

Gospel sing/Thanksgiving dinner

A gospel sing/open microphone and Thanksgiving dinner will be Saturday at the Hymera Community Church. Dinner will be at 6 p.m. and singing at 7 p.m.

American Legion dedication

Linton American Legion Post 22 will dedicate its new Veterans Mall Park Wednesday at 4 p.m. All veterans are welcome to attend.

More money for tires

The Greene County Recycling Center has received an additional $500 from the Greene County Health Department to continue its Tire Amnesty Program. GCRC Director Erek Wilson said his facility can take up to 400 more tires. For more information, call 659-3788.

Shakamak FFA fundraiser

The Shakamak FFA is now hosting its annual fruit fundraiser. Orders will be taken now through Nov. 19. Delivery will be the week of Dec. 7. To order speak to an FFA student.

Prom dress sale

Bloomfield Veterans Day program

The Bloomfield School District will hold a Veterans Day program at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Glover Gym with Jeff Rockey to serve as guest speaker. The ceremony will be a patriotic display featuring the ROTC Color Guard, musical selections from Center Stage and the high school band. Bake sale in Worthington

The Worthington Tri Kappa's annual bake sale will be Nov. 21 at Worthington's City Building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fresh cheeseballs, cheddar or beef and an assortment of Uncle Al's nuts will be available. Proceeds go for scholarships and community needs.

Photography class

A photography class designed to help improve the quality of your photos is scheduled for Nov. 14 and 21 at the Greene County Community Learning Center. The class will open your eyes to what makes a good photograph including proportion, composition and lighting. Students should bring their camera and manual to the class for a lively discussion and hands-on activities. Cost is $80. Boosters fall trash bag sale

Linton-Stockton High School Band and Miner Kadet students will be visiting your neighborhood with trash bags to sell in support of the LSHS band program. If students miss you please call 847-6022 to place an order.

Recycling Center update

The Greene County Recycling Center will not accept old paint as part of its Household Hazardous Waste program through April. County Solid Waste Management Supervisor Erek Wilson said shutdown during the winter months is necessary because the facility used to store the materials is not heated. All other hazardous household waste products will continue to be accepted. The center accepts motor oil, oil filters, anti-freeze, mercury containing items, fluorescent light tubes, other household chemicals, as well as old computer components. Alzheimer's Support Group Meeting

Newark Lighthouse Food Pantry

The Newark Lighthouse Food Pantry will be open from 2-3 p.m. Nov. 21 and Dec. 19.

Cardinal discount cards

The Cardinal Discount Cards are now available for $5 each. The cards may be purchased at the Bloomfield Apple Festival and at upcoming sporting events. Proceeds will support the Bloomfield High School 2010 post prom.

Future meetings of the Greene County tourism group have been tentatively scheduled Dec. 3, 5:30-6:30 p.m. (Carnegie Center in Linton).

Clothes pantry

The Linton Church of Christ is setting up a clothing pantry in the church garage. The pantry will allow people to trade good clothes that are no longer wanted or needed for other suitable clothes. The church has some clothes but is in need of donations, especially clothing for children. The church will also give away school supplies. Contact the church at 847-1894 to make a donation or for more information. The church is located at 4th and C Streets NW in Linton. Clothing pantry hours are 3-6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays or when needed.

9-1-1 addressing reminder

Greene County residents can officially start using their 9-1-1 addresses after they have received an official letter from the U.S Postal Service in Indianapolis.

Book sale in Worthington

The Worthington Public Library is having an on-going book sale. All books are 25 cents each or five for $1.

Turning Point Education Center in Switz City is offering GED preparation classes. The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield.
