Kathy Ray, L-S Project Success counselor, provided the details on the community event that's sponsored by Project SUCCESS and Communities C.A.N.
"The purpose of the dinner is to make connections with the community and let them be aware of this resource. We're trying to strengthen the community by helping kids and adults make good choices," she explained.
Project SUCCESS and Communities C.A.N. focus on prevention education. The program -- which is funded through a grant -- also places a counselor in each Greene County school.
"The prevention education series includes how to manage stress, alcohol and drugs (education), coping strategies and also offers individual and group counseling," Ray added.
The chicken dinner is a school-wide outreach activity that provides an opportunity to educate the community about the program.
"The first 100 people (registered) get a free chicken dinner and the first 25 people get a free gift bag," Ray said, adding several door prizes will also be given away.
Several speakers are also lined up for the event.
Jim Callane -- former LSHS varsity boys basketball coach -- will speak about motivating youth.
"He (Callane) really turned the basketball program around in the '70s," Ray explained. "He also designed a Miner (mascot) and painted it on the old gym floor and got the booster club going."
A 21st Century Scholar representative will also speak during the event as well as Ray -- who will speak briefly about motivating kids.
The dinner is open to anyone in Greene County, but you must register to attend.
To RSVP contact Regina Hildenbrand at 659-1300, ext. 404 or rhildenbrand@wrv.k12.in.us
Free child care will also be offered at the event.
Dinner begins at 6 p.m. with speaking at 6:30 p.m.
