Parents Day Out

Trinity Lutheran Church will host a Parents Day Out on Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Parents can get a jump on their Christmas shopping and enjoy a Saturday of Christmas shopping while church volunteers take care of your 2 to 14 year old. Call Trinity Lutheran Church at 847-7372 to reserve a place. Lunch and snacks will be served. Child's information sheet must be completed in order to use the child care service.

Basket bingo

Civitan basket bingo will be Nov. 16 at the Roy Clark Community Building in Linton. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. Advance tickets are available at Linton Sporting Goods or by calling 847-9236, 847-9936 or 648-2129. Food will be available as well as a raffle and an advance ticket drawing.

Linton-Stockton School Board

The Linton-Stockton School Board of Trustees will meet in executive session at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9 at the administration building.

Book sale at Bloomfield Library

The Friends of the Library continuing book sale will be from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12 in the lower lobby of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library, located at 125 S. Franklin St. in Bloomfield. A large selection of adult and children's books are available with paperbacks for 25 cents and hardbacks for 50 cents.

WRV Veteran's Day program

White River Valley High School will hold a Veteran's Day program at 9 a.m. Nov. 11 with State Rep. Sandy Blanton to speak. The program will honor Sonny Hinchman, a fallen soldier of Worthington.

Spaghetti dinner

Mansions in Heaven Church will have a spaghetti dinner from 5-7 p.m. Nov. 20. Menu includes spaghetti, bread, salad, drink and dessert. A free-will offering will be taken for the meal. There will also be a bake sale and silent auction during the event. All proceeds go to the Family Life Center's children's holiday clothing fund. The church is located at the corner of Franklin and Mechanic Streets in Bloomfield.

Northeast School Board

The Northeast Sullivan School Board will meet in executive session at 6:30 p.m. and in regular session at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the administrative building in Hymera.

Bloomfield leaf pick-up

Leaf pick-up in Bloomfield is now under way. The street department is working rotations of north and south streets and east and west streets. Rake leaves to the curb, not in the street.

Woodworkers Club

Woodworkers Club will meet Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Shakamak Elementary School library. Snacks will be served

Hospital Auxiliary book sale

Greene County General Hospital Auxiliary will host a book sale from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Nov. 10 in the hospital lobby.

Greene County Veterans Council

The Greene County Veterans Council will meet at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 on the courthouse lawn for a Veteran's Day service with 1st Sgt. Richard Bladen to speak. In case of inclement weather the service will be at the American Legion Post 196 in Bloomfield.

WRV to present musical

White River Valley High School will present "CURTAINS," a musical comedy whodunit Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the school. Tickets are $4.

Greene-Sullivan Special Ed Cooperative

The meeting of the Executive Board of the Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative will meet in executive session on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. with the regular meeting to follow at 10:30 a.m. in the conference room at the Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative, 77 A St., N.E., Linton.

Hendricksville Area Association

The Hendricksville Area Association will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Hendricksville Community Center.

Chili supper

The Hendricksville Area Association will host a chili supper from 4-6 p.m. Saturday at the community center. Menu includes homemade chili, desserts, sandwiches, soft drinks and live entertainment at the Hendricksville Community Center.

Bloomfield NARFE to meet

Bloomfield Chapter 847 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) will meet Nov. 10 at 11:30 a.m. at Stoll's Country Inn in Linton. All members are encouraged to attend to vote on the NARFE Membership Single Dues Change Referendum and annual election of chapter officers. The Jasonville Senior Center will hold a biscuit and sausage gravy breakfast from 7 - 9:30 a.m. today. Carry out and other items are also available.

Greene County Singles

The Greene County Singles will hold a dance and dinner Saturday at the Greene County Extension Building at Switz City. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m., dance from 8- 11 p.m. Admission is $5 with a food item, $6 with a 2 liter soda or $7 empty-handed. For more information call 825-4032.

Linton-Stockton Junior High

The Linton-Stockton Junior High has received a waiver from the state which allows teachers to attend the National Middle School Conference today in Indianapolis. Junior high students will not have class today. But, elementary and high school students will be required to attend school today.

Sheriff's Merit Board

The Greene County Sheriff's Merit Board will meet at 7 p.m. on Nov. 10 in the conference room at the Greene County Jail. The jail is located at 204 County Road 70 East, at the edge of Bloomfield.

Callane to speak in Linton

Communities C.A.N.- Project SUCCESS will host a Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner. Come hear Coach Jim Callane -- former Linton-Stockton High School basketball coach -- speak about motivating our youth. There will be door prizes and free child care. It will be Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. at the Linton Stockton High School auditoria. The first 100 registrants receive a free chicken dinner. Fall Food Bazaar

St. Ann's Altar Society Fall Food Bazaar is Friday from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. at the church hall at St. Peter Catholic Church in Linton. Chicken noodle and beef noodle dinners will be available. Eat in or carry out.

Shakamak Family Fall Festival

The Shakamak Family Fall Festival is Friday from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the elementary gym. The festival will include inflatables, basket auction, games, food, face painting and more.

Benefit for Dave Sparks

A dinner and music benefit for Dave Sparks will be held Saturday at the Lyons American Legion. Dinner at 5 p.m. and DJ from 6 - 10 p.m. Menu includes ham and beans, chili, sides and desserts. Donations appreciated and accepted. All proceeds go to Sparks' medical expenses.

The Lyons Legion is located on State Road 67.

Leaf pick-up for city of Linton

The city of Linton will hold its leaf pick-up in November. Leaves will be picked up the day after your scheduled trash day. Rake leaves to the curb and no sticks please. To have leaves picked up call the street department at 847-4257.

Turkey supper

Pleasantville United Methodist Church will hold its annual turkey supper Nov. 14 at 3 p.m. Menu includes turkey, trimmings, drink and desert. Cost is $8 for those 12 years and older and $4 for those 4 - 11 years of age.

Gospel sing/Thanksgiving dinner

A gospel sing/open microphone and Thanksgiving dinner will be Nov. 14 at the Hymera Community Church. Dinner will be at 6 p.m. and singing at 7 p.m.

American Legion dedication

Linton American Legion Post 22 will dedicate its new Veterans Mall Park on Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. All veterans are welcome to attend.

More money for tires

The Greene County Recycling Center has received an additional $500 from the Greene County Health Department to continue its Tire Amnesty Program. GCRC Director Erek Wilson said his facility can take up to 400 more tires. For more information, call 659-3788.

Shakamak FFA fundraiser

The Shakamak FFA is now hosting its annual fruit fundraiser. Orders will be taken now through Nov. 19. Delivery will be the week of Dec. 7. To order speak to an FFA student.

Holiday bazaar

Beta Sigma Phi's Annual Holiday Bazaar is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Linton-Stockton High School auditeria. Admission is free. Food, raffles and a wide variety of crafts will be available.

Shakamak student council fundraiser

The Shakamak High School student council will sponsor an indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. - noon on Saturday. Admission is 50 cents or one canned food item per adult. Longaberger Benefit Basket Bingo

A Longaberger benefit basket bingo for the Gallion girls is Friday at the Lyons Community Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with bingo at 6:30 p.m. Sandwiches, home-made desserts and drinks will be available as well as a 50-50 raffle and Chinese auction. The Gallion girls were born prematurely at 25 weeks on Sept. 1. Bloomfield Veterans Day program

The Bloomfield School District will hold a Veterans Day program at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Glover Gym with Jeff Rockey to serve as guest speaker. The ceremony will be a patriotic display featuring the ROTC Color Guard, musical selections from Center Stage and the high school band. Veterans Day Sunday

Veterans Day Sunday will be Nov. 8 at Blessed Hope Baptist Church with special guest speaker Burton Kephart. Kephart, whose son was killed in battle in Iraq, also wrote the book, "Proven in Battle". Blessed Hope Baptist Church is located south of Jasonville on State Road 59. Bake sale

The Worthington Tri Kappa's annual bake sale will be Nov. 21 at Worthington's City Building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fresh cheeseballs, cheddar or beef and an assortment of Uncle Al's nuts will be available. Proceeds go for scholarships and community needs.

Photography class

A photography class designed to help improve the quality of your photos is scheduled for Nov. 14 and 21 at the Greene County Community Learning Center. The class will open your eyes to what makes a good photograph including proportion, composition and lighting. Students should bring their camera and manual to the class for a lively discussion and hands-on activities. Cost is $80. Shakamak Junior High students

The Metropolitan School District of Shakamak has requested and received a waiver of school attendance for today -- which allows junior high teachers to listen to nationally recognized speakers and network with other teachers. Students in grades 7 and 8 are not to come to school today. All other students will be required to attend school that day.

Boosters fall trash bag sale

Linton-Stockton High School Band and Miner Kadet students will be visiting your neighborhood with trash bags to sell in support of the LSHS band program. If students miss you please call 847-6022 to place an order.

Recycling Center update

The Greene County Recycling Center will not accept old paint as part of its Household Hazardous Waste program through April. County Solid Waste Management Supervisor Erek Wilson said shutdown during the winter months is necessary because the facility used to store the materials is not heated. All other hazardous household waste products will continue to be accepted. The center accepts motor oil, oil filters, anti-freeze, mercury containing items, fluorescent light tubes, other household chemicals, as well as old computer components. Alzheimer's Support Group Meeting

Future meetings of the Greene County tourism group have been tentatively scheduled Dec. 3, 5:30-6:30 p.m. (Carnegie Center in Linton).

Clothes pantry

The Linton Church of Christ is setting up a clothing pantry in the church garage. The pantry will allow people to trade good clothes that are no longer wanted or needed for other suitable clothes. The church has some clothes but is in need of donations, especially clothing for children. The church will also give away school supplies. Contact the church at 847-1894 to make a donation or for more information. The church is located at 4th and C Streets NW in Linton. Clothing pantry hours are 3-6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays or when needed.

9-1-1 addressing reminder

Greene County residents can officially start using their 9-1-1 addresses after they have received an official letter from the U.S Postal Service in Indianapolis.

The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

Bloomfield Food pantry
