Aaron Walters, formerly of Jasonville, and his partner Trent Wilson recently competed and took home first place in 2009 Renegade Series Classic fishing tournament at Kentucky Dam Village in Gilbertsville, Ky. in October.

There were fishermen from 10 different divisions across Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, and Indiana competing in the tournament.

Fishermen had to qualify for the championship by fishing in 5 of 6 regular season events. There were 285 teams qualified for the event, but only 225 actually showed up to fish. The format for all 225 teams were to fish the first two days.

Based on cumulative weight combined over the first two days (each day teams were only allowed to weigh their biggest five bass for a maximum number of 10 bass over the two days), the top 50 qualifying teams would fish on Saturday for the championship.

Each of the top 50 teams had their weights zeroed for the finals to give each of the top 50 teams equal opportunity to win the event.

"We qualified in 10th place for the finals with a weight of 21.20 (day 1: 3.85, day 2: 17.35)," said Walters. "On the final day we weighed 22.10 pounds to win a new Nitro Z-8 with a 200 horsepower Mercury Optimax outboard."

The new rig is estimated to be worth $40,000.
