The project, begun in 1968 by the Linton Civitan Club, raises funds and collects clothing and toys to provide a brighter Christmas for Greene County families in need of community support. Last year, 540 children received assistance through the generous contributions of sponsoring agencies, area businesses, service organizations and community residents.
Other sponsoring agencies this year include the Linton and Ladies Civitan Clubs, Linton Rotary and Bloomfield Psi Otes.
Clothe a Child/Toys for Tots' 2009 goal is to provide $50 per child in clothes and $20 per child in toys. To meet that goal, the organization must raise $30,000. In addition to cash contributions, coats and new toys are also collected.
Monroe Primary Care, located on Main Street in Bloomfield, will serve as a designated toy collection site beginning the second week in November. New toys may be dropped off during normal business hours. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, bell-ringing stations will be set up in various locations in Linton and Bloomfield where volunteers will collect donations from area shoppers.
