Literacy Coalition to host trivia bowl

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

The Greene County Literacy Coalition is seeking teams to battle it out during its upcoming trivia bowl.

The annual trivia bowl, which raises money for the coalition, is slated for 1 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Saron Church in Linton.

"This is our biggest fundraiser for the Literacy Coalition. We don't get any federal or state funding. We really rely on the community to help us out," explained Beth Burcham, who serves as the coordinator of the Greene County Literacy Coalition.

Entry fee is $15 per person on a team or $60 per team, she noted.

Each team will consist of four people and be required to come up with a team name.

"I am encouraging your organization to challenge other organizations in Greene County to participate," Burcham also said. "We usually get between 13 and 15 teams."

Questions will be from all categories and will range from simple to hard. Trivia about Indiana and Greene County will also be included.

"This year teams may also e-mail five trivia questions to be used in the event," Burcham added, noting general category questions only.

In the past, questions and categories have been picked at random. Bonus questions will also be asked throughout the event.

Look for lots of prizes as well as a prize for the team with the best costumes to be given away.

In addition, a basket that includes one of each donated prize will be raffled off during the event.

Raffle money goes to test scholarships for the GED exam. The goal is to raise $350.

Raffle tickets are $2 each or three for $5 and are available at the event or at Marvin Abshire's Office starting Nov. 2.

Prizes include Vera Bradley products, Christmas CDs, subscriptions to Mental Floss magazine among others.

The raffle basket will be displayed at Abshire's office located 5 N. Main St. in Linton.

Donations can be made to the Literacy Coalition by calling 384-4125.

For further details contact Burcham at 384-4125 extension 18 or e-mail literacy@bloomfield.lib.in.us.

"It's really a fun time," Burcham said, noting admission is free to the public.

If you cannot participate but would like to make a donation contact Burcham at the Literacy Coalition.
