An inmate in the Greene County Jail has been accused of punching another inmate in the face and head five or six times and will be facing a new criminal charge.
Aaron W. Evans, 21, Jasonville, was being held in lieu of $15,000 bond on a charge of dealing in methamphetamine, a class B felony.
He was arrested Oct. 10 by members of the Greene County Drug Task Force with assistance from K-9 Brodie of the Linton Police Department.
His case was scheduled to come before Greene Circuit Court in February but now Evans will be making a trip into Greene Superior Court on Friday for an initial hearing on the new charge of battery resulting in bodily injury, a class A misdemeanor.
The battery was witnessed by a jail officer who said he saw Evans punch inmate Jarred P. Anthony in the face and head in the day room of D Block at approximately 5:17 p.m. on Oct. 26. The jailer reported Anthony did not strike back.
Some of the details surrounding the incident were included in a probable cause affidavit prepared by Greene County Sheriff's Det. George Dallaire.
Evans reportedly told another inmate that he was mad and was going to knock someone out. The inmate suggested slapping someone with paper and Evans did. He allegedly walked over and slapped Anthony, who was watching television, in the face with a paper towel.
According to the affidavit, Anthony said Evans had said, "I challenge you to a duel." Evans said he replied, "OK, where at?" then got up to walk back to his cell and was quartering away from Evans when he started punching. Another inmate pulled Evans off Anthony.
Anthony said he did not know Evans until he met him in the jail.
Anthony, 24, Bloomfield, has been in jail since Aug. 29. He is being held without bond with a couple of cases pending, one in connection with a domestic battery incident and another in connection with the theft of an ATV.
In the affidavit, Evans was described as a big guy with a swastika and lightning bolts tattooed on his neck who goes by a nickname of Gobel.
