Wade, a third-grade teacher at Linton-Stockton Elementary School, was recently recognized by his peers as he was named Civitan's Teacher of the Year.
"Anytime you are recognized for the work you do it feels good," Wade said. "This award is special because it is voted on by the teachers in our school. I feel very honored to be selected by a group of such wonderful teachers."
Wade said he feels very blessed to have the opportunity to teach in the Linton-Stockton School Corporation.
"Our entire staff creates an environment where students feel safe and where they are challenged to do their very best," he said.
Wade, a 1998 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School and a 2002 graduate of Indiana State University, knew from a relatively young age that becoming a teacher is something he wanted to do.
"I was fortunate to have excellent teachers as a student in elementary school," Wade said. "As I reached fourth, fifth, and sixth grades, I had male teachers. They were a very positive influence in my life and I knew then that teaching was what I wanted to do."
Linton-Stockton Elementary Principal Kent Brewer presented Wade with the award at an October staff meeting.
"I'm excited for an opportunity for our teachers to get recognized every year by Civitan," Brewer said. "It's just a good opportunity every time a teacher gets recognized."
Recognizing one teacher, Brewer said, actually recognizes the hard work all teachers put in.
"Mr. Wade, I think, exemplifies that," Brewer said. "He's trying to do what's right for the kids, and I think that's why he got recognized."
Wade isn't the only Linton-Stockton Elementary teacher to have been recently recognized with an award.
Sharman Smith, a second-grade teacher, received the 7th District American Legion Educator of the Year award at the state convention in Indianapolis.
She also received the 7th District American Legion Auxiliary Educator of the Year award during a ceremony at the American Legion Post 22 in Linton.
