The Hamilton Center has placed a school-based therapist at Shakamak for the last three years. Curry has been at Shakamak for two years. She was nominated for the award by jr/sr high school principal Vanessa Hodge and jr/sr high school guidance counselor Jenny Scott.
In her nomination letter, Hodge wrote, "Pam Curry has been with our corporation for two years now and she has made great gains with students and parent(s). She comes to work each day with a smile on her face and ready to tackle any situation and personality that comes her way. During this time she has battled cancer and went through many treatments. Getting through that is a tremendous burden on her, but she faced it with a positive attitude and continued to work each day helping other individuals and families through their issues. Her attitude was upbeat, positive, and caring for others by making a difference in people's lives."
Scott wrote, "Mrs. Curry is a competent, reality based therapist. I have referred several students and families to her and I am very comfortable in the knowledge that they will get quality services from Mrs. Curry. She has utilized the opportunity to be on-site at the school and works collaboratively with the classroom teachers. She is available to students for regularly scheduled sessions and for emergency sessions. Mrs. Curry does her job with a smile. She truly believes in the value of each student and gives the students hope whatever the situation. She manages to make each person feel special and important. Her positive spirit encourages me as well. Mrs. Curry has struggled with serious health issues, but arranges her treatment schedule so she can still work full time. She continually puts the needs of others ahead of her own needs. I am glad to count her as a colleague and as a friend and I can think of no one more deserving of this award."
