Bloomfield man killed in Clay County accident

On Tuesday, authorities released the name of a FedEx driver who was killed in an accident Saturday morning.

The person was identified as 54-year-old Raymond Wesley Corey of Bloomfield.

At approximately 7:06 a.m. on Saturday, officials with the Clay County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call regarding an accident on State Road 157 south of County Road 800 S.

Upon arrival, CCSD officials discovered a FedEx vehicle had been traveling north on SR 157 and struck a tree that had fallen across both lanes of the road.

Corey was pronounced dead at the scene by Clay County Coroner Joel Reinoehl.

The portion of SR 157 was temporarily closed as crews from Peffley and Hinshaw Wrecker Service removed the vehicle. In addition, officials with the Indiana State Highway Department arrived at the scene to remove the tree from the roadway.

Other agencies responding to the accident included the Clay City Fire Department, Lewis Township Volunteer Fire Department and TransCare.
