Bloomfield extends two administrative contracts

Monday, November 2, 2009

Two administrative contracts were extended during the recent monthly meeting of the Bloomfield School Board.

Jr./Sr. High Assistant Principal Stella Turner-Royal's contract was extended from Aug. 1, 2010 to July 31, 2011 -- for a total of 200 days a year.

Elementary Principal Mary Jane Vandeventer's contract was also extended from Aug. 1, 2010 to July 31, 2011 -- for a total of 200 days a year.

The extensions do not include salary adjustments.

In other business, several 2009-10 extra-curricular recommendations were also approved by the board.

* Melissa Cochrane was approved as an assistant girls basketball coach for grades nine through 12.

* Karen Wells was approved as the girls junior varsity basketball coach for grades nine through 12.

* Jarrod Holtsclaw was approved as a volunteer boys basketball assistant.

* Ken Greves, Joe Medina and Dan Luse were approved as volunteers for the boys youth program.

In other business, the board approved an exclusive beverage agreement with Pepsi-Cola Bottlers of Indiana, for a period extending through Oct. 25, 2016.

The vote was 6-1 with Board Member Doug Frye casting the single no.

The school district's previous contract with Coca-Cola, Inc. expired in June.

The recommendation to change to Pepsi-Cola was made by Jr./Sr. High Principal David Dean -- who met with representatives of both bottling companies.

After reviewing both contract offers, Dean recommended Pepsi-Cola because he believed the company had greater benefits to the school and its students.

In other business, the board:

* Approved an NJROTC out-of-state field trip to Illinois on Nov. 13-14. Cadets will miss school on Nov. 13.

* Approved an out-of-state field trip for Joyful Noise, CardinalSong and Center Stage to Walt Disney World March 18-24, 2010. Students will miss school on March 19.
