Mark up a success for one local school's vision of being bully-free.
The playground at Linton-Stockton Elementary was the site of food, family, friends and fun during the school's bully prevention kick-off Monday.
L-S Elementary School Counselor Angela Colliver called the event a success in many ways.
"I think it was a wonderful success. I think the thing I enjoyed most was seeing parents and children together," she explained.
Colliver estimated that about 1,000 people came out to celebrate the fun.
"We ordered 560 hot-dogs and buns and we ran out," she explained, noting an exact head count at the event was still to be made.
Colliver also shared the feedback she's received from parents, students, and staff.
"I've heard that this was a lot of fun for the whole family. I've heard many say they wish we could do more things like this ... and I've heard some say the kids were so well behaved," she said.
In fact, Monday's celebration seemed to create a positive atmosphere at school on Tuesday.
"We had really good behavior today (Tuesday) and the kids are in a fabulous mood," she explained.
Overall, it was good, clean fun.
"It was also an awesome opportunity for parents to volunteer ... we loved it," she added.
Look for the school's bully education program to continue at the classroom level.
"We will continue to teach the curriculum this year and next year," she added.
But the school will also be searching for more grant opportunities.
"The grant is finished now ... we will continue to look for more grants in order to do more free activities like this," she also said.
L-S Elementary Principal Kent Brewer stressed the importance of the school's bully prevention program in a past interview with the Greene County Daily World.
Brewer explained, "I think it's really important. I know that if we can create an atmosphere at school that decreases bullying it will increase the atmosphere for learning."

Sounds like a great story and I'm glad that people are coming together to work on a solution for the bullying problem.
This is off topic but I've noticed that the comments section hasn't been working with most articles and I was curious as to why, I enjoy reading everyone's comments just about as much as the story itself. Could someone explain? I apologize if this has already been addressed and I somehow missed it, thank you.
This is all fine, But their are other Issues that need to be address. Like why the Elem. kids serve themselves in the Cafe. Do they not understand that this is how germs spread? Kids will be kids!!!! There are some kids that can't afford to bring there lunch everyday. (which like my child does) This issue needs to be taken care of not put on the back burner. I understand that the school has Paid a lot of money for the table they use, but come on what is better kids health or the money???
everyone is subjected to germs everyday whether you take your lunch everyday or not. Germs are out there everywhere in your childs lunchbox, on the floor you name it it's there. That is why they have disinfecting spray and hand sanitizer.
