Linton woman arrested for thefts from yards and vehicles

Wednesday, October 28, 2009
A 51-year-old Linton woman suspected of stealing small items from vehicles and yards was arrested late Sunday evening after she was caught at her residence unloading the items from the back of a pickup truck.

Stacy J. Tosti is now facing two class D felony counts of theft in Greene Circuit Court.

Reserve Officer Brock Garrison of the Linton Police Department reported seeing a female, later determined to be Tosti, taking a piece of landscaping, specifically a mum plant, from a yard on State Road 54 on the east side of Linton.

The officer said when Tosti saw him in the area, she jumped into the front seat of a pickup truck and took off. Two officers then attempted to locate her.

While searching for Tosti, police received another report that a female driving a pickup truck was seen taking items from parked vehicles, also on the east side of Linton.

One woman reported Tosti had stolen the keys out of her vehicle.

One man reported a coat had been stolen out of his vehicle.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers then drove to Tosti's residence where they saw her unloading items.

The stolen mum plant was recovered.

Tosti was taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Jail.

The affidavit states that after she was advised of her rights, Tosti admitted that she had stolen keys from a vehicle and that she had thrown them into a creek located near her house.

Officers attempted to find the keys but were unsuccessful.

Tosti was released from jail on Monday on $5,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court for an initial hearing on Monday.
