Riggleman earns academic honors

Linton-Stockton senior Kristen Riggleman received Academic All-State Honorable Mention honors for golf from the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association.

Riggleman currently has a 3.873 GPA.

She is a member of the girls golf, basketball and track teams. She is a member of National Honor Society, Letterwomen, Jr. Civitan, Student Council and FCA.

Softball Meeting

The Bloomfield Girls Softball League will be having a meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3 at the Bloomfield Public Library.

Miner Pride Passes not accepted Friday

Linton-Stockton athletic director Charlie Karazsia would like to remind Miner football fans that Miner Pride Passes will be not accepted for all Indiana High School Athletic Association tournament events, including Friday's North Knox at Linton-Stockton Class A Sectional 40 football game.

Tickets will cost $5. Kickoff at Roy Williams Field is set for 7 p.m. Friday.

Safe Trick or Treat At Eastern Greene

The Eastern Greene basketball teams will be hosting the third annual Safe Trick or Treat at the middle school, Friday, Oct. 30.

The event will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Shakamak youth meeting

The Shakamak Youth League (baseball, softball, T-ball) will have its annual meeting on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. in Jasonville at Hanna Field in the upstairs meeting room.

The meeting will consist of the reading of the end-of-year financial statement, review of the league Constitution, and the election of new officers for the upcoming 2010 spring and fall seasons.

The officer positions that will be voted on will be: President, Vice-president, Treasurer, Secretary, Player Agent, Equipment Manager, Maintenance Coordinator, and five (5) Coordinators.

Interested persons should be highly motivated and willing to dedicate a lot of their time to volunteer for the league.

SYL competitive teams for 2010

The Shakamak Youth League will be having "competitive" teams starting in the spring of 2010.

The league will have one more tryout session on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. at Hanna Field in Jasonville.

Tryouts will be for the following divisions and age groups; Baseball -- 12-under only, Softball -- 14-under, 12-under, 10-under, and 8-under.

If you have already tried out on Oct. 11, you do not have to tryout again.

Cost of being on a competitive team is the cost of the players uniform.

All players selected for the competitive teams MUST participate in the Shakamak Youth League 2010 "regular" spring season as well. Out-of-town players are welcome to participate.

The competitive teams will play on weekends either in a competitive league or tourneys or both.

The Greene County Daily World encourages area sports youth coaches or parents and elementary and junior high school coaches to submit pictures of your teams for publication.

Pictures should include identification information about all players and coaches as well as any other info about the team's accomplishments.

Pictures can be e-mailed as pdfs to hargisbj@yahoo.com or to sportswriterrick@yahoo.com. Actual photos can be dropped off at 79 S. Main St., Linton, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Photos can be picked up after they are published.
