American Legion dedication

Linton American Legion Post 22 will dedicate its new Veterans Mall Park on Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. All veterans are welcome to attend.

Revival at Howesville

Howesville Church of God of Prophecy will have revival at 7 p.m Saturday and at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. Dinner will be at the Jasonville Boy Scout Cabin after Sunday morning service. Guest speakers are Jesse and Hadassah Bline.

Linton Elks Lodge 866

The Annual Cancer Charity Longaberger Basket Bingo will be Nov. 3 at the Linton Elks Lodge. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. games start at 6:30 p.m. Advance tickets on sale now at $10 each. Advance tickets will get a bonus pack of game cards and a chance at an Early Bird Basket drawing. Call 847-4903 for details. More money for tires

The Greene County Recycling Center has received an additional $500 from the Greene County Health Department to continue its Tire Amnesty Program. GCRC Director Erek Wilson said his facility can take up to 400 more tires. For more information, call 659-3788.

The Bloomfield School Board will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the junior high conference room.

Shakamak FFA fundraiser

The Shakamak FFA is now hosting its annual fruit fundraiser. Orders will be taken now through Nov. 19. Delivery will be the week of Dec. 7. To order speak to an FFA student.

Chicken-and-noodle dinner

The Jasonville Assembly of God will host a chicken-and-noodle dinner from 4-6 p.m. Saturday. Advance tickets are $6 for persons 13 and older and $3 for those 4-12 years of age. Advance tickets can be purchased from church members or by calling 665-2279. Tickets will cost $1 more at the door. All proceeds go to the "Light-for-the-Lost" missions program. The church is located at 339 W. Main St. in Jasonville.

Theta Gamma

The Theta Gamma Chapter of Delta Theta Tau will host its monthly meeting Nov. 5 at Stoll's Lakeview Restaurant. Members should meet at 11:45 a.m. at the home of Jean Resler to carpool to the restaurant.

Holiday bazaar

Beta Sigma Phi's Annual Holiday Bazaar is Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Linton-Stockton High School auditeria. Admission is free. Food, raffles and a wide variety of crafts will be available.

White River Valley board

The White River Valley School Board will meet in special session at 6:30 p.m. on Monday in the administrative center at the junior/senior high school. This meeting is open to the public.

Flu vaccine clinic

The Greene County Health Department will conduct an H1N1 flu vaccine clinic from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday. The vaccine will be administered to the following high-risk groups: pregnant women, persons between the ages of six months through 24 years, people who live with or care for children under six months of age, individuals from 25 to 64 years of age with underlying chronic conditions or who are immune-compromised and health care providers and emergency medical services workers. Both mist and injectable vaccines are available. You must be 2-49 years old to receive the mist vaccine. The health department is located at 217 E. Spring St., Suite 1 in Bloomfield. Please do not call the health department. Further details will be released as they are made available.

Jasonville Lodge 530 F & AM

Jasonville Lodge 530 F & AM will host an EA degree Oct. 28 and 26. Eat at 6 p.m. and work at 7 p.m. Visiting brethren are welcome.

Greene County Democrat Club

The Greene County Democrat Club will meet at 6 p.m. on Nov. 3 at the Main Street Cafe in Worthington. All Democrats are welcome.

Shakamak student council fundraiser

The Shakamak High School student council will sponsor an indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. - noon on Nov. 7. Admission is 50 cents or one canned food item per adult. Longaberger Benefit Basket Bingo

A Longaberger benefit basket bingo for the Gallion twin girls will be Nov. 6 at the Lyons Community Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with bingo at 6:30 p.m. Sandwiches, home-made desserts and drinks will be available as well as a 50-50 raffle and Chinese auction. Volleyball tournament

Wright Township Volunteer Fire Department will host a volleyball tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday at the fire station located on State Road 59. Cost is $50 per team. Maximum number of team members is 10 with the minimum being six. Concessions will be available.

Linton Moose

Linton Moose will have the live music of the Detasslers from 8 -11:30 p.m. Saturday. Public is invited.

Pet costume contest

A pet costume contest will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 29 at Humphreys Park in Linton. Cost is $5 to enter and the contest has several categories. All proceeds go to the Greene County Humane Society.

Basket bingo

Civitan basket bingo will be Nov. 16 at the Roy Clark Community Building in Linton. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. Advance tickets are available at Linton Sporting Goods or by calling 847-9236, 847-9936 or 648-2129. Food will be available as well as a raffle and an advance ticket drawing.

Community dinner and revival

A community dinner will be held at the Newberry Nazarene Church at 5 p.m. Sunday. Revival with Rev. Clarabelle Jukes is scheduled at 6 p.m. Oct. 25 and at 7 p.m. Oct. 26-28.

Bloomfield Veterans Day program

The Bloomfield School District will hold a Veterans Day program at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Glover Gym with Jeff Rockey to serve as guest speaker. The ceremony will be a patriotic display featuring the ROTC Color Guard, musical selections from Center Stage and the high school band. All veterans who plan on attending should RSVP by calling 384-4271.

Jonah Fish Fry

The Linton-Stockton High School band boosters will hold its annual Jonah Fish Fry fundraiser Oct. 31 from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Roy Clark Community building on the northside of Humphreys Park. Menu includes fish, baked beans, slaw or apple sauce, dessert and drink. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children under 12 years of age.

Veterans Day Sunday

Veterans Day Sunday will be Nov. 8 at Blessed Hope Baptist Church with special guest speaker Burton Kephart. Kephart, whose son was killed in battle in Iraq, also wrote the book, "Proven in Battle". Blessed Hope Baptist Church is located south of Jasonville on State Road 59. Last Day Events Seminar

The Seventh-day Adventist Church, 520 Washington St. in Bloomfield, is presenting a free Last Day Events Seminar. It will be Friday through Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and will run for four consecutive weekends starting Oct. 30. Topics will include, Who is the Antichrist, What is the Mark of the Beast, and The Last Sign Before His Coming. A program for children ages 7-12 will be provided. Bake sale

The Worthington Tri Kappa's annual bake sale will be Nov. 21 at Worthington's City Building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fresh cheeseballs, cheddar or beef and an assortment of Uncle Al's nuts will be available. Proceeds go for scholarships and community needs.

Lyons Senior Center breakfast

A biscuit, gravy, egg, sausage and pancake breakfast will be held from 7 - 10 a.m. Saturday at the Lyons Senior Center. Orange juice, coffee and milk will also be served. Donations only. A bake sale will also be held in conjunction with the breakfast. Raffle tickets for a Low Boy will be on sale for $1 each or six for $5. The Low Boy will be given away Dec. 19. Raffle tickets for your choice of one of four quilt sets will be on sale for $1 each or six for $5. The quilt will be given away Nov. 21

Painting classes

Painting classes will be offered at the Carnegie Center in Linton with Sonna Berghaier teaching. Classes are for children in grades 4-12 and begin Oct. 20 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. and meet for eight weeks on Tuesdays. Cost is $20 weekly or $125 paid up front. You must bring your own supplies. 847-9895.

New classes start next week at Community Learning Center class

A workshop offering tips on finding and applying for a job with the federal government including Crane or WestGate will start Oct. 28 at the Learning Center in Switz City. This hands-on workshop will show how to complete the federal application and complete the skills, knowledge and abilities form required for many federal position. Cost is $50 and class is limited to 7 people.

Photography class

A photography class designed to help improve the quality of your photos is scheduled for Nov. 14 and 21 at the Greene County Community Learning Center. The class will open your eyes to what makes a good photograph including proportion, composition and lighting. Students should bring their camera and manual to the class for a lively discussion and hands-on activities. Cost is $80. Chili supper/haunted hay ride

The Switz City Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a chili supper/haunted hay ride Saturday. Chili at 4 p.m. and hayride starts at dark. The fire department is also having a Longaberger Basket giveaway. Need not be present to win. Raffle tickets can be purchased from any volunteer fire member or at the Switz City Town Hall.

Shakamak Junior High students

The Metropolitan School District of Shakamak has requested and received a waiver of school attendance on Nov. 6 to allow junior high teachers to listen to nationally recognized speakers and network with other teachers. Students in grades 7 and 8 are not to come to school Nov. 6. All other students will be required to attend school that day.

Linton NARFE

Linton Chapter 1688 of NARFE will meet at Pizza City in Linton on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Shan Unverzagt, a representative of Blue Cross, will discuss health benefits and premiums for 2010. All NARFE members and guests are invited to attend.

Boosters fall trash bag sale

Linton-Stockton High School Band and Miner Kadet students will be visiting your neighborhood with trash bags to sell in support of the LSHS band program. If students miss you please call 847-6022 to place an order.

Quilt Guild to meet

Greene County Memory Makers Quilt Guild will meet Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library community room, located at 125 South Franklin Street in Bloomfield. Grace Sipes is in charge of the program. All quilters are welcome.

Eastern Heights Utilities

Eastern Heights Utilities will flush water hydrants Oct. 19- 23. Customers may experience discoloration during this time. Rural customers may experience discoloration up to two weeks after flushing.

BHS class of 2011 fundraiser

The Bloomfield High School Class of 2011 Post Prom Committee is selling famous Gray Brothers frozen homemade 10" pies. Flavors available are: apple, cherry, raisin, pumpkin, apricot, pecan, blackberry, peanut butter, sugar free apple, sugar free cherry and sugar free berry patch. Recycling Center update

The Greene County Recycling Center will not accept old paint as part of its Household Hazardous Waste program through April. County Solid Waste Management Supervisor Erek Wilson said shutdown during the winter months is necessary because the facility used to store the materials is not heated. All other hazardous household waste products will continue to be accepted. The center accepts motor oil, oil filters, anti-freeze, mercury containing items, fluorescent light tubes, other household chemicals, as well as old computer components. Clothe-a-Child applications

Greene County Clothe-a-Child Project applications for low-income families to obtain clothing and toys for their children at Christmas are available from now through Nov. 1 at the following locations: Greene County Division of Child Services (CR 70E, Bloomfield), Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce (159 1st St. NW), Bloomfield Town Hall (12 E. Main), Jasonville Utility Office (304 W. Main) and Worthington Town Hall (SR 67). Families living in Greene County school districts are eligible to apply for benefits for children 12 years old and under. Applications must be returned to any of the above locations, or postmarked to PO Box 516, Linton, IN 47441, by November 1, 2009

Greene County Solid Waste District's mobile recycling trailer will be in Jasonville on Oct. 21-28.

Alzheimer's Support Group Meeting

Former GE employees pitch-in dinner

All former Linton GE employees are invited to attend a pitch-in dinner at noon Sunday at the Girl Scout cabin in Humphreys Park in Linton. Plates, cups, napkins, coffee and tea will be provided.

Harvest Days at Blessed Hope

Harvest Days have come to Blessed Hope Baptist Church. Oct. 25 is "Full-House" Sunday. The church will try to double the attendance of each Sunday School class and bus route. On Oct. 28 come and learn about the country of Moldova. Missionary David Gross and his wife Stephanie will be sharing their burden for the souls of this European country located between Romania and the Ukraine. Operation Dress Drop Off

One Enchanted Evening has joined DonateMyDress.org to provide young ladies with special occasion dresses free of charge if they are unable to purchase their own. The group is encouraging girls to donate their prom and special occasion dresses for the cause. Drop-offs will be available Apple Festival weekend, and please call 384-7310 to make arrangements for drop off. Wedding attire and accessories and prom accessories are also being accepted.

Greene County Tourism meetings

Future meetings of the Greene County tourism group have been tentatively scheduled for Nov. 5, 5:30-6:30 p.m. (Bloomfield Public Library); Dec. 3, 5:30-6:30 p.m. (Carnegie Center in Linton).

Clothes pantry

The Linton Church of Christ is setting up a clothing pantry in the church garage. The pantry will allow people to trade good clothes that are no longer wanted or needed for other suitable clothes. The church has some clothes but is in need of donations, especially clothing for children. The church will also give away school supplies. Contact the church at 847-1894 to make a donation or for more information. The church is located at 4th and C Streets NW in Linton. Clothing pantry hours are 3-6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays or when needed.

9-1-1 addressing reminder

Greene County residents can officially start using their 9-1-1 addresses after they have received an official letter from the U.S Postal Service in Indianapolis.

Book sale in Worthington

The Worthington Public Library is having an on-going book sale. All books are 25 cents each or five for $1.

Turning Point Education Center in Switz City is offering GED preparation classes. Wig bank

The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

Bloomfield Food pantry

The Refuge Assembly of God food pantry will be open every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. to assist those living in Bloomfield. To donate, please contact Trina at 384-8093 during the pantry's open hours.
