The Union Church's third Saturday gospel sing will be Saturday at 7 p.m. The church is located on State Road 43 between Solsberry and Hendricksville. Everyone is welcome to bring a song. The church will not have its monthly sing in November and December.

Book sale at Bloomfield Library

The Friends of the Library continuing book sale will be from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22 in the lower lobby of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library, located at 125 S. Franklin St. in Bloomfield. A large selection of adult and children's books are available with paperbacks for 25 cents and hardbacks for 50 cents. Featured crafter will be Joan tenHoor, owner of "Out on a Limb." Joan will be displaying and selling twig furniture and decorations she creates from autumn olive branches from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Chili supper/haunted hay ride

The Switz City Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a chili supper/haunted hay ride Oct. 24. Chili at 4 p.m. and hayride starts at dark. The fire department is also having a Longaberger Basket giveaway. Need not be present to win. Raffle tickets can be purchased from any volunteer fire member or at the Switz City Town Hall.

Flu vaccine clinic

The Greene County Health Department will hold an H1N1 flu vaccine clinic from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. This clinic is for pregnant women, first responders and health care workers only. Both mist and injectable vaccines are available. But, you must be 18-49 years old to receive the mist vaccine. The health department is located at 217 E. Spring St., Suite 1 in Bloomfield. Please do not call the health department. Further details will be released as they are made available.

Greene County General Hospital Auxiliary sale

Greene County General Hospital Auxiliary will host a sale from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Oct. 23 in the hospital lobby. The sale offer items donated by the auxiliary, and the public is welcome.

Shakamak Junior High students

The Metropolitan School District of Shakamak has requested and received a waiver of school attendance on Nov. 6 to allow junior high teachers to listen to nationally recognized speakers and network with other teachers. Students in grades 7 and 8 are not to come to school Nov. 6. All other students will be required to attend school that day.

Lyons Marco wiener roast

The fourth annual weenie roast for anyone who attended Lyons, Marco and L&M Schools is at 6 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove Farm. Free hotdogs and drinks.

Linton NARFE

Linton Chapter 1688 of NARFE will meet at Pizza City in Linton on Oct. 26 at 6:30 p.m. Shan Unverzagt, a representative of Blue Cross, will discuss health benefits and premiums for 2010. All NARFE members and guests are invited to attend.

Jasonville F&AM degree work

Jasonville F&AM Lodge 530 will conduct a F.C. degree on Oct. 21. A meal will be served at 6 p.m, and work will be at 7 p.m. Visiting brethren are welcome.

140 years to be observed by church

Marco United Methodist Church (UMC) is celebrating 140 years of dedicated service to generations of faithful followers Sunday. Marco UMC was organized in 1869 and is still holding services in the same church. Everyone is welcome to this celebration/homecoming which will start with a pitch-in dinner at noon with a program to follow at approximately 2 p.m. with past ministers participating. There will be two singing groups, The Variations and For His Glory that will be singing along with a children's program. After the program, cake and ice cream will be served.

Red Bonnet Belles

Greene County Singles

The Greene County Singles will host a dance and dinner Saturday at the Greene County Extension Building at Switz City. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m., dance from 8- 11 p.m. Admission is $5 with a food item, $6 with a 2 liter soda or $7 empty-handed. For more information call 825-4032.

The Linton-Stockton School Board of Trustees will meet in executive session at 6 p.m. and in regular session at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 in the administration building.

Quilt Guild to meet

Greene County Memory Makers Quilt Guild will meet Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library community room, located at 125 South Franklin Street in Bloomfield. Grace Sipes is in charge of the program. All quilters are welcome.

Euchre tournament

Teams needed for cornhole tourney

The Linton American Legion Auxiliary is hosting a cornhole tourney Saturday at the Legion. Registration is at 1 p.m. The public is welcome. Food will be available at noon. Proceeds benefit many of the Legion's programs.

Eastern Heights Utilities will flush water hydrants Oct. 19- 23. Customers may experience discoloration during this time. Rural customers may experience discoloration up to two weeks after flushing.

BHS class of 2011 fundraiser

The Bloomfield High School Class of 2011 Post Prom Committee is selling famous Gray Brothers frozen homemade 10" pies. Flavors available are: apple, cherry, raisin, pumpkin, apricot, pecan, blackberry, peanut butter, sugar free apple, sugar free cherry and sugar free berry patch. Recycling Center update

The Greene County Recycling Center will not accept old paint as part of its Household Hazardous Waste program through April. County Solid Waste Management Supervisor Erek Wilson said shutdown during the winter months is necessary because the facility used to store the materials is not heated. All other hazardous household waste products will continue to be accepted. The center accepts motor oil, oil filters, anti-freeze, mercury containing items, fluorescent light tubes, other household chemicals, as well as old computer components. Clothe-a-Child applications

Greene County Clothe-a-Child Project applications for low-income families to obtain clothing and toys for their children at Christmas are available from Oct. 1 through Nov. 1 at the following locations: Greene County Division of Child Services (CR 70E, Bloomfield), Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce (159 1st St. NW), Bloomfield Town Hall (12 E. Main), Jasonville Utility Office (304 W. Main) and Worthington Town Hall (SR 67). Families living in Greene County school districts are eligible to apply for benefits for children 12 years old and under. Applications must be returned to any of the above locations, or postmarked to PO Box 516, Linton, IN 47441, by November 1, 2009

Recycling trailer

Greene County Solid Waste District's mobile recycling trailer will be in eastern Greene County Oct. 14-21 and Jasonville on Oct. 21-28.

Faith Christian Church revival

Faith Christian Church will host revival at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Oct. 18 and at 7 p.m. on Oct. 19-21. The church is located on State Road 54 West in Bloomfield. Leroy Blankenship will speak.

Greene County Women's Democrat Club

The Greene County Women's Democrat Club will host a basket bingo at 6 p.m. on Oct. 19 at the Roy Clark Community Building. Cost is 20 games for $10. Tickets will be available at the door or from any club member for early bird tickets.

Former GE employees pitch-in dinner

All former Linton GE employees are invited to attend a pitch-in dinner at noon Oct. 25 at the Girl Scout cabin in Humphreys Park in Linton. Plates, cups, napkins, coffee and tea will be provided.

Fall Gathering

The Greene County Master Gardener Association will sponsor a Fall Gathering at the Extension Building east of Switz City on Oct. 24. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. with sessions starting at 9 a.m. You can learn more about garden preparation for the winter, saving seeds, herb possibilities and welcome the Blue Bird man. Harvest Days at Blessed Hope

Harvest Days have come to Blessed Hope Baptist Church. There is a special Sunday planned every week for the month of October. Oct. 18 is "B-I-B-L-E" Sunday. For this Sunday the Sunday School theme song becomes the theme for the day, reminding us of the importance and power of God's Word. Every visitor at Blessed Hope will receive a new Bible and each new family attending will receive a family Bible. Oct. 25 is "Full-House" Sunday. The church will try to double the attendance of each Sunday School class and bus route. On Oct. 28 come and learn about the country of Moldova. Missionary David Gross and his wife Stephanie will be sharing their burden for the souls of this European country located between Romania and the Ukraine. Blessed Hope Baptist Church is located half a mile south of Jasonville on State Road 59. Linton Housing Authority hearing

The Linton Housing Authority has made available for public review the 2010 annual plan and the 2010-2014 five-year action plan. The location for review is the LHA main office located at rural route 2 box 680 in Linton. A public meeting will be conducted Oct. 20 at the office prior to the monthly commissioner meeting.

Area art show

The Carnegie Heritage Arts Center in Linton (the former Margaret Cooper Public Library) will host an art show through Oct. 18. The art show will have an emphasis on subjects pertaining to the Goose Pond. Artists should bring their paintings, drawings, photographs, and sculpture of birds, scenery, water scenes, etc. to the Center on Sept. 23-25 between noon and 4 p.m. Each artist may enter up to four pieces, with an entry fee of $3 per item. They must be suitable framed, with a wire hanger, and no larger than 40" X 30". The show will continue during regular business hours Sept. 30 to Oct. 18. Chili supper fundraiser

The First Baptist Church in Edwardsport will host a chili supper fundraiser Oct. 24 at 5 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Proceeds will go for new storm windows for the Sunday School rooms.

Operation Dress Drop Off

One Enchanted Evening has joined DonateMyDress.org to provide young ladies with special occasion dresses free of charge if they are unable to purchase their own. The group is encouraging girls to donate their prom and special occasion dresses for the cause. Drop-offs will be available Apple Festival weekend, and please call 384-7310 to make arrangements for drop off. Wedding attire and accessories and prom accessories are also being accepted.

Greene County Tourism meetings

Future meetings of the Greene County tourism group have been tentatively scheduled for Nov. 5, 5:30-6:30 p.m. (Bloomfield Public Library); Dec. 3, 5:30-6:30 p.m. (Carnegie Center in Linton).

Clothes pantry

The Linton Church of Christ is setting up a clothing pantry in the church garage. The pantry will allow people to trade good clothes that are no longer wanted or needed for other suitable clothes. The church has some clothes but is in need of donations, especially clothing for children. The church will also give away school supplies. Clothing pantry hours are 3-6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays or when needed.

Greene County residents can officially start using their 9-1-1 addresses after they have received an official letter from the U.S Postal Service in Indianapolis.
