The Union Church's third Saturday gospel sing will be Saturday at 7 p.m. The church is located on State Road 43 between Solsberry and Hendricksville. Everyone is welcome to bring a song. The church will not have its monthly sing in November and December.
Book sale at Bloomfield Library
The Friends of the Library continuing book sale will be from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22 in the lower lobby of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library, located at 125 S. Franklin St. in Bloomfield. A large selection of adult and children's books are available with paperbacks for 25 cents and hardbacks for 50 cents. Featured crafter will be Joan tenHoor, owner of "Out on a Limb." Joan will be displaying and selling twig furniture and decorations she creates from autumn olive branches from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Chili supper/haunted hay ride
The Switz City Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a chili supper/haunted hay ride Oct. 24. Chili at 4 p.m. and hayride starts at dark. The fire department is also having a Longaberger Basket giveaway. Need not be present to win. Raffle tickets can be purchased from any volunteer fire member or at the Switz City Town Hall.
Flu vaccine clinic
The Greene County Health Department will hold an H1N1 flu vaccine clinic from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. This clinic is for pregnant women, first responders and health care workers only. Both mist and injectable vaccines are available. But, you must be 18-49 years old to receive the mist vaccine. The health department is located at 217 E. Spring St., Suite 1 in Bloomfield. Please do not call the health department. Further details will be released as they are made available.
Greene County General Hospital Auxiliary sale

Shakamak Junior High students
The Metropolitan School District of Shakamak has requested and received a waiver of school attendance on Nov. 6 to allow junior high teachers to listen to nationally recognized speakers and network with other teachers. Students in grades 7 and 8 are not to come to school Nov. 6. All other students will be required to attend school that day.

140 years to be observed by church
Marco United Methodist Church (UMC) is celebrating 140 years of dedicated service to generations of faithful followers Sunday. Marco UMC was organized in 1869 and is still holding services in the same church. Everyone is welcome to this celebration/homecoming which will start with a pitch-in dinner at noon with a program to follow at approximately 2 p.m. with past ministers participating. Recycling Center update
The Greene County Recycling Center will not accept old paint as part of its Household Hazardous Waste program through April. County Solid Waste Management Supervisor Erek Wilson said shutdown during the winter months is necessary because the facility used to store the materials is not heated. All other hazardous household waste products will continue to be accepted. The center accepts motor oil, oil filters, anti-freeze, mercury containing items, fluorescent light tubes, other household chemicals, as well as old computer components. Clothe-a-Child applications
Greene County Clothe-a-Child Project applications for low-income families to obtain clothing and toys for their children at Christmas are available from Oct. 1 through Nov. 1 at the following locations: Greene County Division of Child Services (CR 70E, Bloomfield), Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce (159 1st St. NW), Bloomfield Town Hall (12 E. Main), Jasonville Utility Office (304 W. Main) and Worthington Town Hall (SR 67). Harvest Days at Blessed Hope
Harvest Days have come to Blessed Hope Baptist Church. There is a special Sunday planned every week for the month of October. Oct. 18 is "B-I-B-L-E" Sunday. For this Sunday the Sunday School theme song becomes the theme for the day, reminding us of the importance and power of God's Word. Linton Housing Authority hearing
The Linton Housing Authority has made available for public review the 2010 annual plan and the 2010-2014 five-year action plan. Area art show
The Carnegie Heritage Arts Center in Linton (the former Margaret Cooper Public Library) will host an art show through Oct. 18. The art show will have an emphasis on subjects pertaining to the Goose Pond. Artists should bring their paintings, drawings, photographs, and sculpture of birds, scenery, water scenes, etc. to the Center on Sept. 23-25 between noon and 4 p.m. Each artist may enter up to four pieces, with an entry fee of $3 per item. They must be suitable framed, with a wire hanger, and no larger than 40" X 30". The show will continue during regular business hours Sept. 30 to Oct. 18. Chili supper fundraiser
The First Baptist Church in Edwardsport will host a chili supper fundraiser Oct. 24 at 5 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Proceeds will go for new storm windows for the Sunday School rooms.
Operation Dress Drop Off
One Enchanted Evening has joined DonateMyDress.org to provide young ladies with special occasion dresses free of charge if they are unable to purchase their own. Clothes pantry
The Linton Church of Christ is setting up a clothing pantry in the church garage. The pantry will allow people to trade good clothes that are no longer wanted or needed for other suitable clothes.
