Volleyball state tournament pairings announced

Pairings for the 38th annual volleyball state tournament were announced Monday morning at the Indiana High School Athletic Association headquarters in Indianapolis.

At the Class A Shakamak Sectional, Clay City and North Central will play the opening match at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22.

The semifinals are set to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 when two-time defending champion Shakamak (18-8) takes on winless Union (Dugger) (0-20).

White River Valley (9-14) will play in the second semifinal at approximately 1 p.m. Oct. 24. The Lady Wolverines will face the winner of the Clay City--North Central match.

The those two winners will meet in the championship contest at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The format will be the same at the Class 2A Bloomfield Sectional. Eastern Greene, who won 25 of its first 29 matches, will face North Knox in the lone match at 7 p.m. Oct. 22.

At 11 a.m. Oct. 24, South Knox will take on Linton-Stockton (15-13) in the rematch of last year's championship match, won by the Lady Spartans.

In the second semifinal Oct. 24 at approximately 1 p.m., Bloomfield (7-18) will meet the winner from Thursday.

Saturday's two winners will face each other at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24 in the championship contest.

The winner at Shakamak will advance to the South Decatur Regional on Saturday, Oct. 31. The winner at Bloomfield will play at the Eastern Greene Regional the same day.

The state semifinals and finals in four classes are set for Saturday, Nov. 4 in the Muncie area. The Worthen Arena on the campus of Ball State University will play host to the each class finale.
