Lady Cardinal opening

There is an opening for a junior varsity girls basketball coach at Bloomfield High School.

Those interested should contact the BHS athletic office at 384-4241.

EGMS wins

The Eastern Greene Middle School boys cross country team defeated Shakamak and North Daviess Thursday at Little Cincinnati.

The T-Birds finished with a score of 19 points, with Shakamak finishing second with 36 points.

North Daviess did not have a full team.

EG's Keith Ringer was the overall meet winner (12 minutes and 10 seconds), finishing a fraction of a second ahead of teammate, Justin Tatum (12:10).

Other top ten finishers included: Johnson (Shakamak) third, French (EG) fourth, Lagenour (EG) fifth, Collins (Shakamak) sixth, Hudson (EG) seventh, West (Shakamak) eighth, Moorman (Shakamak) ninth and Sweet (Shakamak) was 10th.

Eastern Greene defeated Shakamak 15-47.

Lady Lakers intramurals

Girls in grades 1-8 at Shakamak are invited to play intramurals on Sundays in October at Shakamak Elementary School.

Players will meet from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25.

Cost is $15, which includes a T-shirt.

5K Run in Owensburg

The Owensburg-Jackson Township Fire Department will he sponsoring a 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 8 a.m. Registration will be that morning from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m.

The route will begin at the Owensburg-Hatfield Library and will continue through streets of Owensburg and end at the Fire Station.

The entry fee will be $15.00 before Sept. 24 for adults and $20.00 for the day of the race. The entry fee for children 15 and under will be $10 before Sept. 24 and $15 for the day of the race. The first 50 entries will receive a race day T-shirt.

Medals will be awarded to the top two finishers in each age group in the runners and walkers group. An overall male and female will be awarded in the runner and walker group.

All proceeds benefit the Owensburg Firefighters to purchase much needed equipment.

Cornhole tournament

The Owensburg-Jackson Township Fire Department will be hosting a Cornhole Tournament during the Founder's Day Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 4 p.m.

Entry fee is $10 per team. The overall champion will win 35 percent of the combined entry fees and the runner-up will win 15 percent of the entry fee.

The more teams that play, the larger the cash prize.

White River Valley boys tennis match against Vincennes Rivet has been moved to Friday, Sept. 25.

The Greene County Daily World encourages area sports youth coaches or parents and elementary and junior high school coaches to submit pictures of your teams for publication.

Pictures should include identification information about all players and coaches as well as any other info about the team's accomplishments.

Pictures can be e-mailed as pdfs to hargisbj@yahoo.com or to sportswriterrick@yahoo.com. Actual photos can be dropped off at 79 S. Main St., Linton, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Final tournament

Shakamak State Park will have its final bass fishing tournament of the season Saturday, Sept. 26.

This event is open to the public.

The final tournament is set for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration will be at Kickapoo ramp, will be at 7:45 a.m.
