The Memory Makers Quilt Guild of Greene County will meet at Rilleda Hudson's Busy Bee Shop in Linton on Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m. Mary Jo Foster will be the hostess. Directions to Busy Bee: Take State Road 54 West through Linton and after you pass Stoll's County Inn, turn left on County Road 230 North. The shop is on the south side of the road with a farm pond between the road and house. Drive on the dam of the pond to get to the shop.

Fish fry in Lyons

The Lyons Senior Citizens Center will host a fish fry on Sept. 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The meal will include a fish sandwich, potato salad, slaw, baked beans, dessert and drink for $8.

Goodman to speak

Fall revival

The Owensburg Baptist Church will host a revival Sept. 27 to Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. each night. The Rev. Edsel West will be preaching.

Area art show

The Carnegie Heritage Arts Center in Linton (the former Margaret Cooper Public Library) will host an art show later this month and through Oct. 18. The art show will have an emphasis on subjects pertaining to the Goose Pond. Artists should bring their paintings, drawings, photographs, and sculpture of birds, scenery, water scenes, etc. to the Center on Sept. 23-25 between noon and 4 p.m. Each artist may enter up to four pieces, with an entry fee of $3 per item. They must be suitable framed, with a wire hanger, and no larger than 40" X 30". There will be a small reception to open the show to the public Sept. 27 from 1-5 p.m. The show will continue during regular business hours Sept. 30 to Oct. 18. Boys to speak at Calvary Baptist

Don Boys, PhD, will speak at Calvary Baptist Church in Linton on Sept. 27-30. He will speak at 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 27, and 7 p.m. Sept. 28-30. Boys is an evangelist, family speaker, and author. His wife Ellen will sing during the services. Boys has authored 13 books and has written many feature articles that have appeared in National Journals, and has written columns for USA Today. He also served in the Indiana House of Representatives.

Chili supper fundraiser

The First Baptist Church in Edwardsport will host a chili supper fundraiser Oct. 24 at 5 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Proceeds will go for new storm windows for the Sunday School rooms.

Apple Festival queen contestants sought

Application are now being accepted for the Annual Delta Theta Tau Apple Festival Queen Contest. This year the contest will be Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Bloomfield High School cafeteria. Entry forms may be picked up at the high school principal's office or by contacting Joni Miller at 384-3488 (home) or 384-4325(work). Contestants must be a resident of Greene County for six months, enrolled in a Greene County high school in grades 9 through 12. Entry deadline is Sept. 18.

Jasonville Senior Citizens event

The Jasonville Senior Citizens Center will host its perennial flower sale today from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the center, 145 South Lawton St. If it rains, the sale will be inside the building.

Recycling trailer in Jasonville

The Greene County Recycling Center's mobile trailer will be in Jasonville through Sept. 23. It will then be moved to Bloomfield from Sept. 23 to Sept. 30.

L&M class of 1989 reunion

The L&M High School class of 1989 reunion will be today at Cinco de Mayo Restaurant in Lyons. The class will meet at 5:30 p.m. for dinner. Former teachers, alumni and friends of the class are invited to join them at 7 p.m. for the remainder of the evening.

K of C fundraiser

The Knights of Columbus will host its annual community fundraising event (Jonah Fish Fry) on Sept. 25 at the K of C Hall at 450 E Street NE, Linton from 4-7 p.m. Proceeds from the sale of tickets for this year's event go to several community groups including Linton Pregnancy Care Center, Greene County Crime Stoppers, Linton Community Food Pantry, Linton junior class (prom), Bloomfield choral groups, White River Valley junior class parents (post prom), Linton Family Readiness Group, Boy Scout Troop 407, plus others. These groups receive $4 for each adult ticket sold. Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children under 12.

Homecoming at Concord General Baptist

Concord General Baptist Church of Calvertville will host its annual homecoming service Sept. 27. Sunday School begins at 9:30 a.m. with Worship at 10:30 a.m. Terry Crites of Anderson will present a gospel music program during the worship service. The Owensburg-Jackson Township Fire Department

The Owensburg-Jackson Township Fire Department will he sponsoring a 5K Run/Walk on Sept. 26 at 8 a.m. Registration will be 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. The route will begin at the Owensburg-Hatfield Library and will continue through the streets of Owensburg and end at the fire station. The entry fee will be $15 before Sept. 24 for adults and $20 for the day of the race. The entry fee for children 15 & under will be $10 before Sept. 24 and $15 the day of the race. Sons of the American Legion

The Sons of the American Legion Jasonville Post 172 will sponsor a donation yard sale at the Jasonville Lions Club Building on Oct. 10 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The post will be accepting any and all donated items for this sale. Operation Dress Drop Off

One Enchanted Evening has joined DonateMyDress.org to provide young ladies with special occasion dresses free of charge if they are unable to purchase their own. The group is encouraging girls to donate their prom and special occasion dresses for the cause. Ground water testing

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) is conducting a statewide ground water quality survey. It is currently seeking residential well owners to participate in this survey. IDEM is in the first year of sampling, and it hopes to revisit each of the sites annually. IDEM specifically identified the following counties as areas where they need additional sampling locations: Bartholomew, Clark, Dearborn, Decatur, Floyd, Greene, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Ohio, Perry, Rush, Scott, Switzerland. The sampling will be free of charge to residents and copies of the results will be provided. The results will be confidential. Greene County Recycling news

The Greene County Recycling Center now accepts bagged trash for $2 per bag. The price went up from $1 a bag on Sept. 1 due to disposal fee increases. The mobile recycling trailer will be in Eastern Greene County on Sept. 9-16.

Literacy Coalition dinner

The Greene County Literacy Coalition's annual dinner will be Sept. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Saron church in Linton. It will celebrate its 20th annual dinner. Guest speaker this year is an associate professor from IU in the second language department who also has an interest in adult literacy issues.

Greene County Tourism meetings

Future meetings of the Greene County tourism group have been tentatively scheduled for Oct. 1, 5:30-6:30 p.m. (Carnegie Center in Linton); Nov. 5, 5:30-6:30 p.m. (Bloomfield Public Library); Dec. 3, 5:30-6:30 p.m. (Carnegie Center in Linton).

Clothes pantry

The Linton Church of Christ is setting up a clothing pantry in the church garage. The pantry will allow people to trade good clothes that are no longer wanted or needed for other suitable clothes. The church has some clothes but is in need of donations, especially clothing for children. The church will also give away school supplies. Clothing pantry hours are 3-6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays or when needed.

9-1-1 addressing reminder

Greene County residents can officially start using their 9-1-1 addresses after they have received an official letter from the U.S Postal Service in Indianapolis.

Shakamak class of 1967 to meet

The 1967 Shakamak High School graduates should mark Sept. 25 on their calendars as a 60th birthday celebration is planned.
