'The Last Five Years' is filled with beautiful music and two outstanding performers.
The songs range from the beautiful and heartbreaking to the upbeat and comic as they chronicle a five year love affair.
Wesley Whitaker, who will be playing the part of Jamie in the production, is very excited about this opportunity. "This is the first time I've ever said this and meant it 100 percent. I am absolutely thrilled about everything in this show. I mean, just to have the chance to work with such fine people and sing Jason Robert Brown's gorgeous music, and act in such a real, down-to-earth, heartbreaking play...it's just amazing. I'm rambling, I know, but this play is worth rambling about."
'The Last Five Years' opened Thursday and will take the stage Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.
One of the very unique things about The Last Five Years is the way the story is told. Miranda Crispin, playing opposite of Wesley as Cathy explains, "This show tells a familiar story in a very inventive way, taking us through five years of a relationship between two people whose perspectives are communicated to the audience in an opposing timelines."
"Jamie's story moving forward in time, starts after his first date with Cathy, and Cathy's story starts at the end of their relationship and progresses backward in time," Crispin elaborates.
Both Miranda and Wesley also are extremely excited to be part of Shawnee's 50th season. As Whitaker says, "I am really excited to have the chance to do this show during Shawnee's groundbreaking 50th season. Just knowing that everyone trusts me with such a wonderful role in such a great season thrills me."
Matthew Graber, Producing Artistic Director of the Shawnee will be directing this production. He also is very excited about working with Whitaker and Crispin on The Last Five Years.
"With these two extremely talented performers with such amazing voices this is sure to make for a wonderful evening of theatre.," he said.
The Shawnee Theatre, Indiana's oldest continuously running summer theatre, is located just a mile south of downtown Bloomfield at 4 Furnace Road.
