Bloomfield Chamber learns about new area assisted living facility

Thursday, July 2, 2009

Gina Wagler provided information on Odon's newest assisted living facility during the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce's Thursday meeting.

Parkview Village Christian, Care, Inc. is now open and accepting applications, explained Wagler, who serves as the executive director of the facility

"The 38,000 square foot facility offers 45 assisted living apartments," she said, noting four different floor plans which include 24 studio apartments, 16 one bedroom apartments, two one bedroom deluxe apartments and three two bedroom apartments.

The project got its start in 2006, she noted. That's when the community of Odon realized the need for such a facility.

Sometimes older folks who live alone often feel like they have no reason to live, Wagler said.

"We want to establish a purpose for them," she added.

Parkview Village Christian Care is a not-for-profit facility which is housed on 10 acres of donated land.

Although the facility is located in Daviess County, anyone is welcome to apply.

"You can live as independently as you wish," Wagler added.

The facility is available for short-term and long-term stays.

"They are very nice apartments," she also said.

Volunteers are always needed at the facility.

In other business, Bloomfield Chamber Secretary Jenny Crites provided information on the fireworks fund.

So far, $5,785 has been collected for the fund, she said. A total of an additional $600 has also been pledged.

The goal is to reach $8,000. If anyone is interested in donating it's not too late.

Contact Crites at 384-3581 to make a donation.

This year's fireworks show will be at dusk on July 4 at the town park. The show will last 30 to 45 minutes and a rain date has been set for dusk on July 5.

I also took a tour of the facility and thought it was great. Sure it is pricey, but when you figure they have activity, social, nurse and nurse assistant available 24-7 it doesn't seem so bad. All meals are furnished and there will be plenty of activities that will be available. Wait till they have to go to the nursing home, then the price goes up.
