Sassafras reunion canceled
The Sassafras School Reunion, which was to be held on Sunday, July 5 at 1 p.m. in the Linton Housing Authority building, has been canceled due to the lack of sufficient reservations. Those who had sent in responses with checks will receive their original checks in the mail within the week.

WRV Jr./Sr. High School is announcing that all students enrolled in incoming grades 7-12 for the 2009-'10 school year will be given free physicals July 8 at the Lyons Medical Clinic. All freshmen will be given a free physical and echocardiogram from 5:30 - 6 p.m. only. All other students will be given physicals by the following schedule: grades 7-8 at 6 p.m., grade 10 at 6:30 p.m. and grades 11-12 at 7 p.m.

The Linton-Stockton class of 1979 will celebrate its 30th year class reunion with dinner and live music July 3 at the Old Bank in Linton. The Linton-Stockton High School Bandstand will be open Monday through July 4 from 11 a.m. - midnight. The menu includes sandwiches (Jonah fish, hamburgers, breaded tenderloins and sloppy Joes), hot dogs, coney dogs as well as French fries, cheese fries, chili cheese fries, cheese nachos and super nachos. Soft drinks, brownies and cookies will also be available. Proceeds will benefit the band and Miner Kadet programs.

The Greene County Tourism group will meet July 9 from 5-6 p.m. at the Utilities District of Western Indiana REMC building on State Road 54 (across from Hunter's Inn and next to the White River bridge near Bloomfield). Newberry Little Mister, Little Miss
The Newberry Little Mister and Little Miss Contest is scheduled for Aug. 22. A child can enter if he/she is 3-5 years by Aug. 22, 2009. Your child will collect a penny a vote starting the month of July. The money will be donated to the Riley Children's Hospital. A.M. Risher Pool fundraiser
A water volleyball tournament and dance will be at the A.M. Risher Memorial Pool in Linton on July 31. Volleyball starts at 6 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the pool -- which is in need of repairs. Donations are currently being accepted at the pool.
Goose Pond photo contest
Friends of Goose Pond, a non-profit organization, is sponsoring a calendar photo contest featuring photos shot at Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area within the past year. Suggested photo subjects include landscapes, seasons, activities, flora and fauna. The contest is open to photographers of all ages. Mowery reunion set for July 11
The annual Mowery reunion will be July 11 from noon to 5 p.m. at the New Community Building at the Dugger Park in Dugger. A covered dish lunch will be served at noon. Table service will be provided.
Kids Count Preschool

The Linton Public Library has begun observing its summer hours. During the week, the doors close at 6 p.m. except for programs scheduled after hours. Friday (9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.) and Saturday (9:30 a.m.- 3 p.m.) times remain the same. These hours will be followed until Sept. 8.
