He was born in East Chicago May 3, 1948, the son of Virgil Lawrence Meier and Lillian Jansky Meier.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam in the 8th Infantry Airborne Division, a member of the Dugger American Legion Post #224, retired from Inland Steele in East Chicago, owned and operated 54 Sports, and was formerly employed with Allied Barton Security for Hawthorne Mine.
Survivors include his parents, Virgil Lawrence Meier, and Lillian Jansky Meier of Highland; his wife of 37 years Mary Lou Rositas Meier; three sons, David Meier of Floresville, Tx., Jon Meier (Lisa) of Pleasantville, and Eric Meier (Jennifer) of Hammond; one brother, Brian Meier (Lisa) Morocco, Ind.; two sisters, Louise McComas (Mike) of Lowell, Karen Kornaus (Jerry) of St. John, Ind., eight grandchildren, Brandon, Blake, Luke, Bailey, Levi, Noah, Jacob, and Joshua, and nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Banks and Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan with Father Frank Renner officiating. Mililtary rites by the Dugger American Legion.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
