Bloomfield searching for a new athletic director

Thursday, June 25, 2009

The Bloomfield School District will soon be without an athletic director.

As of June 30 Monica Abernathy will no longer hold the AD position at the school. Her resignation was

approved during the Thursday meeting of the Bloomfield School Board.

Abernathy was the school's AD for the 2008-'09 school year.

In her resignation letter, Abernathy notes that she will return to her hometown of Elwood to get married.

"My time at Bloomfield was very enjoyable and everyone was so friendly and nice in welcoming me into the community," Abernathy also said in the letter. "I have only been at a few schools, but Bloomfield was by far the best school I have been affiliated with to this point. The students were exceptional and the staff was supportive."

After approving her resignation, Board Member Keith Hanauer said, "I thought Monica did a good job. I heard a lot of positive comments...We wish we could have had her a lot longer."

The board also wished her luck in her future endeavors.

In other business, the board approved the resignation of Savilla Jones as a mild disabilities special education teacher. She was employed at the school for two years.

Jones recently accepted employment with North Daviess Schools.

Bloomfield Jr./Sr. High Principal David Dean spoke on both the resignations.

"Both are quality people who are very dependable and who helped out whenever needed," he said, adding they both will be missed.

In other business, the board approved the hiring of Tiffany Raidy as the junior-senior high school counselor.

During the 2008-09 school year, Raidy served as the instructor/counselor of the out-of-school suspension program at Greene Academy.

The board also approved the hiring of Stormie Robinette as the coordinator of health services.

Robinette has a bachelor of science and is a registered nurse in the state of Indiana.

In other personnel business, the board also approved the hiring of Alissa Wayman as a part-time band teacher.

I think I'll apply. Can't be too hard of a job and I'm likely to stay longer than a year. I wish her the best.

Maybe they should have kept Mr. Hudson. He is the only one who wanted to stick around!

Hmmm.. Mr. Hudson would be a PRIME candidate. The school has always looked for greener grass when it never realized how lucky it was to have a person like Mr. Hudson to run the Athletics.. we need a Bloomfield native.

If Bloomfield can afford an athletic director I don't want hear them whining about revenue or having to lay off any teachers.

I believe that they should give John Bucher a look if he is interested. He has experience in athletics, lives in the area, has a keen sense of Bloomfield and its athletic traditions, and is a good guy to build around for the future.

I have heard very good things about his work at WRV....although I believe it was wrong for WRV to pass him over for their coaching position....no disrespect to JB and his new staff.

Who are we kidding? Everyone knew/suspected Ms. A would be gone after a year. BHS was a stepping stone.

Hopefully common sense will prevail and the board will do everything in it's power to get Mr. Hudson back. It was a shame to not offer him the job a year ago. He is exactly what we (or any other school for that matter) need in a A.D.

Who didnt see this coming a mile away

John Bucher would be a good choice, but someone show me anybody more dedicated to Bloomfield than Rick Hudson and I say the board should hire that person. The board should swallow its pride and hire Hudson.

Skomp took a job at Hi-Lift Jacks.

It is time to get someone who lives in Bloomfield, or at least Greene Co. Does the school board really have nothing else to do but interview AD candidates every year or so? Get with it lady and gentleman of the board, get someone who actually wants to stay around here.....yes, John is a good choice, unless you have lots of time and nothing else to do that you don't mind to interview so often............then by all means get an outsider.

Why was my comment taken off? Sorry if it ruffled feathers to say Miss Abernathy was a one year'er from the beginning and the Board should get Rick Hudson back, he did a great job in the time he was allowed to be there. Note to the Board: it did make you look kinda bad.

I agree with most of you. What is the deal with passing over quality candidates and hire an "outsider". Rick, John, Josh Thompson(if interested) would all be great candidates, with a vested interest in the community. Come on school board, use some common sense, hire local people that are qualified. Start a trend on the east side of the river, maybe then the school 10 minutes to your east will learn something and follow suit.

I don't see why Thompson would want the AD job at BHS. He's got a pretty good gig going at SVHS and I think he is really starting to put his mark on that program. I expect his team to be really competitive this year and into the future. It's all about starting a good feeder system and I think Josh is doing that in the lower grades of the school system.

Ron McBride all I have to say.

-- Posted by nutzz6934 on Mon, Jun 29, 2009, at 7:50 PM

McBride can't be too far from retiring...if they wanted him they would have gave it to him years ago. Not sure way they didn't keep Hudson...politics I would assume. Has Bucher done something at Worthington elementary that would make him a good choice??? I would say he wouldn't leave on his own of course if he got the position. Just my thoughts
