Media Five Sports, a division of Media Five Corporation in Vincennes, has announced an agreement with WQTY Radio (93.3 FM, Linton) to produce approximately 100 high school sporting events in Greene County next season.
Keith Doades, president of Media Five Corporation, said his company will produce all Linton-Stockton Miners football games in addition to girls and boys basketball for Linton, Bloomfield, Eastern, Shakamak, White River Valley, and Union (Dugger).
Doades, who has been involved in high school sports broadcasting since 1977, said his company will rent the airtime from The Original Company, the licensee of WQTY.
"I think this will be a wonderful service to Greene County and the surrounding area", Doades said, and added, "I'm sure this will be the most coverage Greene County high school sports has ever received.
"This area has been a hotbed for high school sports for many years, and this amount of coverage is both needed and deserved. I want to thank Mark Lange and The Original Company for allowing Media Five Sports to purchase this level of high school sports coverage on their station."
According to Doades, his agreement with WQTY is for the next two high school sports seasons: the upcoming 2009-2010 season as well as 2010-2011.
In addition to live coverage of all Linton-Stockton football games, Media Five Sports has a tentative basketball schedule that includes 27 Linton-Stockton games, 20 Shakamak, 19 WRV, 18 Bloomfield, 12 Eastern-Greene, and nine with Union (Dugger).
Coverage of the end-of-season IHSAA boys and girls tournaments will also be included until all local teams have been eliminated.
Media Five Sports is also currently involved in air-time leases for South Knox boys and girls basketball with WFML Radio (96.7 FM -- operated by DLC Media) in Vincennes, and also for a weekly coach's show program on WAOV (1450 AM), another The Original Company station in Vincennes.
"I'm not sure who'll be doing the bulk of the play-by-play next season," Doades said. "It could be a combination of different broadcasters including myself.
"But regardless, I'm really excited about producing and providing the games, and I'm sure Greene County fans will enjoy all the coverage. I'm very hopeful the business community will get excited about this as well and support this level of coverage."
Doades added that they will are in the process of canvassing the area for sponsors in the coming weeks.

i am glad to hear this
Mr.Doades - I sure hope you keep Dan and JP for the Miner Football coverage. It just wouldn't be the same with out them calling the games. Thanks! Go Miners!!
I second the to request that Dan and JP continue to do the play-by-play for Miner Football games, there is no one that knows this areas football as well as Dan.
I would like to challenge all local and area businesses to help make this happen by sponsoring the broadcast. I know this has been a deciding factor in the past with WQTY, now that there is further interest in this, please help make this a success.
Everyone needs to support this. Businesses and fans. This involves both boys and girls sports and is something that hasn't been done ever. The only girls games that were ever on the radio were when a team made a postseason run. This will a big deal for our athletes. If we don't suppport it then we shouldn't be doing any complaining when games aren't on the radio. This will be great for Greene County and Dugger sports.
Being that I've done the radio the past 10 years for Linton football... I am so happy to see Keith come in and try to make this back into a local sports deal... I've talked with him at length about problems in the past, and what I think the community feels. I've stuck my neck out by saying I believe the community will jump on board when it's a matter of their own school being featured on the airwaves. I hope it happens. I love doing the football games, and sacrifice a lot to do it. I know JP feels the same. But it is a matter of economics as well. Keith had to pay for the airtime, and has other expenses as well to be sure to bring a quality production...which is what I am most excited about. But there has to be a grass roots support behind it. Without that...well I don't wanna even think of that!
Thanks to anyone who can talk to a business or knows anyone in a position to become a sponsor of this package. It will be awesome to hear Linton Sports be the main focus... I only wish it would have happened earlier!

Dan Phillips
Sounds like a good thing. I wish that they would broadcast our band and choir concerts. We have some excellent musicians performing at these events.
Dan Phillips puts more time and research into his football broadcasts than anyone. It would be a tremendous loss if he were to no longer do Miner football broadcasts.
I know things are tight all over the country...not to mention the midwest... but we sure aren't getting near the support I was hoping for. Maybe some are still sitting on the fence, others saying no for one reason or another...but we need more sponsors to make this really work.
